I follow this advise - Yes, you can use pipe dope and Teflon tape together for threaded pipe connections, with most pros applying Teflon tape first, followed by a layer of pipe dope, to create a strong, leak-proof seal, especially for water lines, with the dope lubricating and filling gaps, and the tape adding bulk and sealing properties. Item arrived promptly and in great condition. This is a great product for preventing leaks in pvc pipes, especially the threaded fittings. Oatey brand glue and joint compound is the best you can buy.

Use joint compound in conjunction with Teflon tape for best results.
Used it on top of Teflon tape applied to plastic piping on a pool pump. I was still getting leaks without the joint compound . Maybe I could have used just the joint compound?

Quick to apply, not runny has the right viscosity and works. You don’t need alot of force to tighten fittings when compared to teflon tape.
