Best ice and no regrets
This ice maker is just as advertised and even better! I have always loved Sonic ice so this is my best purchase ever for myself. It makes noise of course but it’s not irritating, besides what doesn’t make noise? I recommend the opal filter to use with it. Enjoy

DO NOT BUY! Way too many "working as designed" issues.
Ice melts overnight (working as designed), cleaning light blinks nonstop even after cleaning, filter light comes on at least once per week, machine is LOUD, power randomly shuts off unexpectedly for no reason. After long phone calls, numerous emails, crazy frustration, GE finally says "working as designed". If they know these things are issues they need to call it out in the user guide. I would have never purchased this if I had known all of these issues were to be expected. Complete waste of money. My daughter's $80 machine works better than this name brand $550 machine. Customer support is horrible.

Great. Worth the price!
I was hesitant to spend the money on a countertop ice maker. I did a lot of researching and finally decided on the Opal. I am so glad I did. I have had about a month now. Makes great ice and is very quiet. I have not cleaned it yet or used the connectivity.

Great ice maker
This is the fourth GE profile I have purchased. All have made great pearl ice; however the three initial makers all malfunctioned.

So disappointing
For the first 5 1/2 months the ice machine worked perfectly. I did regular maintenance (cleaning and descaling) over that time period but about 3 weeks ago, the machine started cycling through the defrost setting almost continuously and not producing more than about 1/4 ice that it normally produced. I cleaned it, descaled, and installed a new Opal name brand filter but nothing changed. I never get more than 1/4 bucket of ice before the machine goes into defrost mode. Now the App says I need to descale, which is obviously wrong because I just did it one week ago (with descaling liquid, not vinegar) and we only use reverse osmosis/softened water in the machine. Reading these reviews and online forums, it appears this is a common problem (although this was not apparent to me when I purchased it). I have made a warranty request, but these reviews also indicate I will get a refurbished machine to replace my almost brand new one AND I will have to pay hundreds of dollars to do so. These problems and this warranty are simply not what I expected for a machine in this price range. I also just purchased thousands of dollars worth of GE Profile products for my kitchen and now I am very nervous and wish I could have seen the warranty information BEFORE I purchased. BEWARE and always get an extended warranty if you purchase this product.

Just stopped working a year in.
It worked great until it just didn’t. Bought in 2022, cleaned it regularly and took good care of it. Then one day it just stopped working about a year later. I tried all the trouble shooting and YouTube videos. Winded up being a very expensive years worth of ice. Wouldn’t let me give it below 3 stars or I would have.

only lasted 2 weeks
started making a loud squealing noise then a few days later it sounded like it was going to throw a rod. Assume it was the gears that move the ice. Returned and received replacement from Amazon, will see how this one does.

Buy it!
I love opal Icemaker. It makes ice fast. You can set schedules too. Since I have mine turned off during the day while nobody is using it because no one is home. Then turn a couple hours before people arrive home to make ice. When is set to turn around 11 PM. This allows, the ice to melt some overnight and then it turns back on at 9 AM. It makes great nugget ice, crunch, and chewable. I make my coffee every day with it, and I always chew the ice. Somehow, the ice actually absorbs the coffee, so it melts throughout the day it turns into drinkable coffee. Just awesome. Go ahead buy it! Make sure you pick up the extra water tank and get yourself a water filter for it. Otherwise you have to put filtered water in. I just put tapwater in mine because there’s the filter inside. Without the side tank, you’ll be filling the water a bit, especially if you use it frequently

Impressive machine
Only had machine 4 weeks. Works as advertised. Very happy with the quality of the machine so far. A little pricey but my ice machine broke on my 5 year old refrigerator and to get a replacement was nearly 3/4 the price of this machine. The GE Opal2 makes far better ice and much quicker. Put things in to perspective as far as I am concerned.

Simply wouldn't work
I ordered this as I had read many reviews about how good it was. It is a premium ice maker so it was expensive. It eventually arrived, followed the manual for setup, and it simply didn't work. It made noises, but never made any ice. It actually seemed like a cheaply made product, without proper quality assurance. Many people online talking about the same issue with it not making ice. Didn't have much choice, so sent it back. It is quite heavy, so a bit difficult if you have to re-package to return it.

As the ice melts it will make more. I like the side tank addition which I bought separately
The ice doesn’t last as long as refrigerated ice but I love it for my water bottles etc…

Opal ice is the good ice!
Been using it for 2 months and it is a god send. Takes about an hour or so to fill the bucket of ice. Some maintenance is needed, currently every month you need to do a cleaning which takes about 30 minutes to do. But it is worth it. If you are thinking of getting an ice machine, don’t look at others and get this one.
