It does not have a handle, but the whole toilet breaks down making it portable.

Q: Do you seal it up between uses, or leave the seat on?

It just sits on top, not sealed

It is open, but don't get this product! I was stupid to get two because of the reviews and I don't know what those people were talking about! If your content even goes into the hole it smells so bad! I lost 500.00 on this junk

Yes. On river trips, they are typically used only for poop, to minimize liquids and save space and weight.
