How wide is the top? Two people have said 12 inches, but the description states it's 20 inches.....Thanking you in advance ..

The bench measures 12-inches wide by 37-inches long. When the legs are extended, the height at the top of the bench is 19-1/2 inches off the floor. The bench is very sturdy and of durable construction. Being aluminum, the bench is light weight and easy to carry around.

I'm 220lbs and it holds my weight easily.

If I covered it with a mat, would this work as a workout bench for bench presses, etc?

I do not think it would be good for a weight bench.
