A ghost stranded in New York City is determined to communicate with the woman he loves. He teams with a "psychic" who is amazed to discover her powers are authentic when she becomes his reluctant ally as he masters the skills of the spiritual world. The winner o f 2 Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actress. Review: Ghost - Received dvd in good packing. Received fast. Wonderful to watch. Review: Hope for the afterlife - This film was released in 1990 and secured a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Whoopi Goldberg. It concerns a banker who, after finding unusual amounts of money in some accounts in the institution where he works, is killed in a mugging. However, his spirit, in the form of a ghost, refuses to leave, and turns up evidence that he was murdered to cover up a money laundering racket being run by one of his closest friends at the bank. In the course of trying to expose the crime, he enlists the aid of a con-artist psychic, played by Goldberg, to help him protect his lover. This is a beautifully done movie with excellent performances by all concerned. Patrick Swayze portrays the distraught and totally confused ghost to perfection, Demi Moore is heartbreaking as his grief-stricken girlfriend, and Tony Goldwyn is dispicable as the friend-turned-murderer. There is also a superb job by Vincent Schiavelli as a hostile ghost stuck on the subway. The musical score is done by Maurice Jarre and features the 1965 song "Unchained Melody," performed by The Righteous Brothers, which was pushed to the top of the musical charts after the movie was released. This one will make you laugh, cry, cheer, and come away with a true sense of hope for the afterlife.

This movie took me on a ride going left, right, up and down emotionally with very funny moments in it....
I bought this movie late because I didn't appreciate the uniqueness of it when it first came out. I saw it on TV with commercials and I felt that this movie must be seen without commercial interruptions. This movie is dramatic and yet had appropriate comedy...interesting. I really love this movie because it shows how helpless we feel when we lose someone in death and how hard it is to overcome the mourning process for a loved one, then begin again to live life without them. Sometime in our lives we " will " experience the loss of someone special and we hope to see them again someday, This movie takes us on a journey through the loss of someone beloved, the unexpected hope of seeing them again someday, and the strength to go on. The comedy of Whoopi Goldberg is exceptionally funny and light hearted. Plus, this movie presents the end results for those people who deliberately harm others and their families leaving me a comforting and yet sad feeling for them. This movie should be in everyone's collection.

Love Transcends Death
Ghost (1990) is a romantic thriller starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopi Goldberg. The film begins right off of the bat by introducing the audience to Swayze('Sam') and Moore('Molly') as two young lovers that are navigating a notable step in their relationship: moving in together. We are given approximately 25 to 30 minutes total of viewing time (enough to make us optimistic about this romance) amd then we are struck in the gut as we must bear witness to Sam being murdered in what could at first be mistaken as simply a petty robbery-gone-wrong. While cutting to the chase isn't always the bets idea, it's almost necessary in this particular film. Sam's murder becomes the catalyst for presenting the story the director really needs us to absorb; shortly after being murdered, Sam becomes a ghost and he immediately starts looking for answers to why he was killed (and, it's to be expected, so no need to force empathy out of the audience); the suspense is deepened by finding out that his murderer was hired, although it remains unknown for a significant period of time what the motivation was behind Sam being killed. Sam's spirit is assisted by a would-be psychic namdd Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg). Their relationship throughout the film is presented in a way that is plausible given the scenario; more-over, Swayze and Goldberg have a certain amount of chemistry that lends authenticity to their roles. Their characters spend a large amount of time on screen together (so, the audience can see them standing next to each other), but you are convinced that Oda seriously can't see Sam in any capacity. It's fair to say that this is just remarkably good acting and the performances in this film are dang-near unmatched. The plot of this film is well developed in that the big reveal about who hired the murderer (and their motovation) is simultaneously a surprise and completely obvious all at the same time; because of this, the story moves at a pace that makes waiting for the final resolution bearable. The audience can guess that the ending will ultimately work in Sam and Molly's favor, but it isn't clear how that resolution will come to pass. At the core this movie is a love story - but it becomes something much more than that when it is all said and done. This movie is as entertaining as it is digestible; I would recommend!

As Good Now as Back in the Day!
I am in love with this movie. I had watched it originally when it came out to the theaters and then lately had been talking to someone about it again, telling the how wonderful it was. I hopped on Amazon and there it was for a great price so I bought it. It did sit unopened for a while, but then one afternoon while I was baking, I popped it out of the case and put it in my laptop and watched while I was baking. Wow! It's as good now as it was back originally. The acting was fantastic- Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg- just a classic movie. It has everything in it- humor, mystery, drama, romance. It's the whole package. It's one of those movies that everyone should see and I think every generation would appreciate. Love it!

A tear jerker of a movie now in stunning 4K
It is a 1990 American supernatural romance film directed by Jerry Zucker from a screenplay by Bruce Joel Rubin, starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Goldwyn, Vincent Schiavelli, and Rick Aviles. It focuses on Sam Wheat (Swayze), a murdered banker, whose ghost sets out to save his girlfriend, Molly Jensen (Moore), from the person who killed him – through the help of the psychic Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg). Ghost was theatrically released on July 13, 1990, to commercial success, grossing $505 million against a budget of $22–23 million and emerging as the highest-grossing film of 1990 and at the time of its release, was the third-highest-grossing film of all time. The film was a sleeper hit, unexpectedly outperforming several blockbuster action films released that summer. Its success extended to the home video market, and it was the most rented film of 1991 in the United States. The film initially received mixed reviews from critics, with praise going towards the score and performances of the cast. Ghost earned five nominations at the 63rd Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing, winning Best Supporting Actress for Goldberg and Best Original Screenplay for Rubin. Ghost was the first film Jerry Zucker directed on his own, as well as his first dramatic film. He had previously been part of the Zucker, Abrahams and Zucker directing team, known for their parody films. Zucker stated that his decision to direct Ghost was not made to distance himself from comedies or to mark a new chapter in his career, but he was merely "just looking for a good film to direct." When screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin learned that Zucker was to direct the film and wanted to make changes to his script, he was apprehensive, as he wanted Miloš Forman or Stanley Kubrick to direct and feared Zucker would turn his script into a comedy. However, Rubin changed his mind and warmed up after dining with Zucker and being impressed by how "deeply philosophical" he was.[5] Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox, Paul Hogan, Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Kevin Kline, Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise were considered for the role of Sam Wheat. Bruce Willis turned the role of Sam Wheat down as he did not understand the script and later called himself a "knucklehead" for declining. Similarly, Fox thought the film wouldn't work, and, in hindsight, regretted turning the role down. Michelle Pfeiffer, Molly Ringwald, Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman were considered for the role of Molly Jensen. Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle, and Oprah Winfrey were either considered or auditioned for the role of Oda Mae Brown. Zucker initially was not interested in casting Whoopi Goldberg as Oda Mae, and Swayze advocated for her to be cast. Zucker credited arguments from radio host Dennis Prager with deciding to "lighten" Rubin's original script with a moral message. Rubin noted that he "wanted to tell a ghost story from the ghost's perspective": "One day, I was watching a production of Hamlet, which begins with the ghost of Hamlet's father saying, ‘Revenge my death,’" he recalled. "I thought, ‘Wow, let's transpose that into the 20th century; it'd be an interesting story.’ And the idea hit me." Filming for Ghost began shooting in July 1989. Many of the interior scenes were shot at Paramount in Los Angeles. The interior of Sam and Molly's loft is a reproduction of the home and studio of artist Michele Oka Doner, built from plans she provided because she declined to allow filming in her loft. It was reconstructed in an unused loft nearby in her Soho neighbourhood and featured many of the same details as the actual loft, such as radiators around columns, open stairs and a house-shaped enclosure for the refrigerator. Filming of the apartment took place at 102 Prince Street, lower Manhattan. The exterior scenes were shot in New York City, particularly in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Soho, and Wall Street, for about five weeks. The film features about 100 special effects shots. Demi Moore's famous 'boy cut' in the movie was designed by Manhattan hair stylist John Sahag. The final scene used digital video effects. Originally it was meant to show Patrick Swayze kissing Demi Moore before walking up a mylar platform toward a bluescreen with grips in the shot. VFX supervisor Richard Edlund didn't think the audience would buy it and used Quantel’s “Harry” video-compositing system to combine the workprint with Swayze with elements that had been shot on an Oxberry animation stand and things like an endoscope of Christmas tinsel A masterpiece from the 90s movie era, which was a perfect date movie with a fully thought-out script and a director known for comedy and not drama.
