Review: A sequential and step wise approach to prepare for problems on the PE Power Exam - I used the "Study Guide for PE Electrical and Computer - Power Exam" by Wasim Asghar along with his course to prepare for the PE Power Exam which I passed in September 2025. This book was particularly helpful in my success as it follows an incremental approach to understanding and problem solving which helped me better develop problem solving and most importantly further improve my understanding of Electrical and Power Concepts without many hiccups. The book has problems and solutions for all the core areas and is a very helpful investment in the preparation of the course. I highly recommend the book for any individual desiring to take the PE Power Exam.

Cracked the PE Power exam in my very first attempt thanks to this book
This is a question book, best used as a supportive source alongside your main study materials. Exam candidates should study each topic in advance, but this book provides high-quality, conceptual questions that reinforce what you’ve learned. - Large question bank for thorough practice - Covers almost everything in the updated PE Power exam specs - Detailed solutions that not only remind you of what you studied but also teach you new insights you won’t easily find elsewhere

Do this book and the online course and I am sure you will pass
Passed the PE. Really great with all of the practice problems. But they are practice problems so sign up for the Authors 6 week course and at least briefly skim the lectures on the problems that are not straight forward. That saved my bacon. You will save so much more time and money with getting at least a little more in depth understanding then just searching google as a lot of sources out there just do not explain power very well. You will not be disappointed with this book and the online course. Worth the investment. I got a big raise and more time off for passing the PE in my company. More money and more vacation time great for me.

5-Star Exam Prep Resource
Great study that covers all of the critical concepts when preparing for the PE Power Exam. The NCEES spec has recently changed but the contents of the study guide still cover 99% of what you need to know in order to pass the exam - so don't hesitate purchasing just because of the recent spec changes. I was in the same boat but glad I purchased this and spent time reviewing the problem sets. This will reinforce your understanding in every subject area and help you become fail proof on exam day.

Your first and best resource
I passed the PE exam on the 1st try and this book was a big reason why. It was actually the last book I reviewed during my prep. I wish it had been my first. I guess the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the exam ended up having way more qualitative questions than I expected and this book prepares you more for the math-based questions. That said, I don't know if there's a better way to prepare for qualitative questions anyway, so I'd still recommend this book. Review this book first; then work through "Electrical Engineering PE Practice Exam and Technical Study Guide" by Zach Stone PE; and finally work through the NCEES Power practice exam. You'll do fine.

Good indicator of how you comprehend the questions, and best paired with on-demand/live course.
Similarly to the FE study guide, there are many topics of Electrical Engineering covered within the study guide; the difference between the FE and the PE study guide use would be through getting through practice problems. The FE Study guide from Wasim which I used within 3 months of passing my FE the first try I was able to go through it once and understand the logic of the questions being asked; Now this is not how the PE exam should be studied as the test has a different approach from randomizing the order of topic questions to the depth vs breadth of the exam. This PE Study Guide is testing if you can see through the questions' theory, and not just mathematical approach. Your incorrect answers can be corrected with the proper understanding which can then be realized either through the on-demand or live lecture courses or generally you can email him in which he punctual in responding to your emails within a day or two. I am still going through the study guide, but I had realized I was able to relearn/truly learn for the first time for things which I may have completely forgotten or never fundamentally understood throughout undergrad. This book has great coverage for the inexperienced but recent graduate who knows the arithmetic but not theory, to the most experienced power systems engineer who need to brush up on their arithmetic and understand the theory. I highly recommend Wasim's study material as it is affordable in comparison to other study resources(even if you have company expense for your study material I still highly recommend it because Kaplan is essentially double the price for the answers and not truly understanding the material), you'll get the best bang for buck out of whatever you get from Wasim. Also in comparison to Zach Stone, I did review a bit of his material, but it seems that his material is a bit side-tracked(he accommodates more to the person's feelings which takes up a bit more time), and in comparison Wasim is very straightforward and direct. Edit: passed, and with very little doubt going in, and even more confidence coming out than I did with the FE. I clocked in about 500-550 hours of study time overall with the on-demand course, Study guide/Live lecture. I highly recommend this course if you are looking to study for the Power PE, as well as if you had failed previously and need a great resource for all the reasons stated above; best bang for buck and overall definitely enough for a non-power systems engineer to pass. I am an electrical estimator with a an electrical engineering degree plus a third assistant engineer USCG Certified license, but no in depth power systems knowledge previous to this course.

Great Resource for PE Power — Highly Effective with Wasim’s Course
Very well-structured book with plenty of practice problems that effectively reinforce both conceptual understanding and mathematical skills. To get the most out of it, I recommend pairing it with Wasim’s On-Demand Live Course for a complete 360° preparation experience. One area for improvement would be to include more problems that require multi-step reasoning. Most current problems involve finding just one missing variable, whereas PE Power exam questions often require solving for two or more variables before reaching the final answer. Adding such problems in future editions would make the book even stronger.

Great practice problems to prepare you for the exam
If you want confidence on exam day, this works. The questions are intentionally tougher, so you overprepare and the real thing feels manageable.

Sensational coverage of topics
No buyers remorse! I have finished my B.Sc. degree in 2016 and this book played the main role as my preparatory guide for passing the PE Power exam within exactly “1 month and 4 days”. Tackling the huge amount of diversified problems within each topic was unequivocally essential for passing the exam (alongside my years of experience and rusty knowledge from my college days). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Great reference! Passed the PE exam on the first try, 25 years after graduation!
I just passed my PE on the first try after 25 years of graduation! I used Wasim's book for the FE and passed that one on the first try! Wasim's PE book is a great reference that will walk you through almost all sections of the NCEES handbook, focusing on calculations, analytics and math. The good news is that the actual exam is not as complex as most problems in Wasim's book, as they have been trying to minimize the use of a calculator, so if you master this book, you will have an easy session for the more analytics problems that need math during the exam. Wasim's book is terrific, however, you need to ensure using other references on top, to master on different subjects which need deep understanding of the practical applications too.
