HARRIS Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade, Half Pound with Easy Application Puffer Tip

This is one great product, and man you just gotta love nature! So this is diatomaceous earth which can be used for getting rid of many insects: ants, fleas and other small and annoying pests. We have lived in our condominium since 2017 and have never had an issue with any ants, but for some reason we have had an onslaught of them in the past three months. Of course it’s the hottest time in the year here in San Diego, and the hottest and driest spell that I can remember. But some people think that there’s no global warming! Anyways back to the review and our ant problem…we had tried everything we could think of to kill these ants but with little success. We tried the ant spray, vinegar, those commercial ant baits, but all were unsuccessful for a long term solution. Then my wife decided to try this and by golly it worked, in combination with Borax. We used the combination of borax and sugar water to lead them in but we used the diatomaceous earth to keep them in line and to keep them from wandering around. Best part the diatomaceous earth is pretty safe for pets. We had used it once for fleas as well and have not had them since either. Love that it’s cheap and effective. No smell at all, but it is a powder and gets on stuff will leave a whiteish residue. But the ants have not returned for the last three weeks. If they do come back we are using the combination again. So if you want a cheap and effective way to rid your home of fleas and ants this is one that works. It does take a little time for it to work as it pretty much dehydrates the little buggers.

Works as a Mechanical Pest Control!!!! People seem confused by the label because it says the product is animal feed and also says, “Do not use as a pesticide.” The important distinction is that food-grade diatomaceous earth works mechanically, not like a conventional chemical poison. Diatomaceous earth is made from the fossilized remains of microscopic aquatic organisms called diatoms. Their silica shells have microscopic, abrasive structures. When DE contacts insects, it damages the waxy outer layer of their exoskeleton and causes them to lose moisture, eventually dehydrating and killing them. It is not an instant-kill product, and that is why you may not see dead insects immediately. If you’re dealing with something like crickets outdoors, you’re also unlikely to watch the process happen. Crickets can jump or move away before you ever see the effect. DE is much more useful as part of a broader pest-control approach than as something you simply throw down and expect to work instantly. I recently had ants showing up around my doorway. I cleaned the area thoroughly, including the track, cracks, baseboards and places where ants could have left pheromone trails. I used cleaning products separately, allowing everything to dry completely between applications, and then applied DE to appropriate cracks and entry points. The ants were gone within two days. Then someone dropped a sugar cookie right outside my door. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the mess for about ten days because I was very sick. Once I found it, I was extremely glad I still had DE available. I cleaned the area and treated the potential entry points again, and it worked. One important warning: Do NOT mix cleaning products together. I used the products separately and allowed each one to dry before using another. Combining household cleaners can create irritating or hazardous fumes, particularly for the lungs and eyes. So yes, food-grade DE can be highly effective against insects, but it works differently from a conventional poison pesticide. It’s a mechanical desiccant, it isn’t instantaneous, and proper cleaning and application matter.

Word to the wise this dries everything your hands your breathing everything it's very very difficult to spread this around without it going everywhere especially if you have fans going or don't have a special vacuum with a HEPA filter just forewarn as I really had bad respiratory issues last night after using it but it will work just be careful using it as a woman it caused me to dry out so severely through my entire body that because it got through my eyes and then after doing it I took my mask off and inhaled some of the particles that had settled yet it caused a lot of female infection type effects and it messed with my immune system making me susceptible to the poison ivy my cat had gotten also just to warn any women using this product make sure you Google instructions specifically catering too being a woman it's a very good product It's very effective make sure you follow specific steps to prevent it causing adverse effects like I'm having because it is so effective wonderful product when used correctly I never used it before and should have taken more care and want to warn others so they can have the benefit from this product without learning the hard way like I have very effective and very easy to use when it's wrinkled into the cracks and crevices of an old floor and you stomp on the floor it Puffs back up so it spreads easy you don't need a lot if you're a woman handling this I suggest using the liquid version of this to avoid any dust being ingested there's such fine particles and it really is very effective words the wise if you're a woman Google the liquid version it's like four spoons for every gallon of water

This thing is the bomb. I had termites in my garden every summer and they’re gone. I will be reordering once im done with this bottle, but seems like this one will go a long way

I’m very happy with this diatomaceous earth. It’s easy to use, works well, and is a great product to have around the house. The quality is good, and I like that it comes in a convenient package. Overall, I’m satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

I don’t know that I can say much other than, the product description here (which led me to buy it) isn’t borne out by the product label. I didn’t see the backside of the product package until it arrived, and that has a label saying it’s for animal feed and not for use as a pesticide. Here’s a photo of the back along with the front; I used yellow highlighting on the photo to highlight where it says it’s for animal feed and not pesticide use. Yet below, I’ve copied and pasted the product description, which said it can be used as a pesticide. This is too bewildering for me, since the label said it’s not to be used that way I’m returning it for a refund. I have to rate it so I’m just going with 3 stars but I really don’t know how it works as animal feed (let alone for pesticide use). I had small flies around my cat litter box. I used a little of this in the box and they were gone with in a day. Worked great! It didn't stop my cats from using the litter box.

I purchase this regularly. It does what it’s supposed to. Price is average. My building has been fighting a bedbug infested for a few years now. DE is great to use as prevention or a long side of treatment if but can not be used as a stand alone in treatment. Also works great as a binder if needed.
