Sturdy Little Cable!
It does what it should and it does it well. Plus, this cable is built to withstand a LOT of pulling and plugging, twisting and moving. No technical faults at all, works perfectly. So if you have a need to plug your yellow RCA video cable into a handy, dandy S-Video port, this is the cable for you. Works the other way too...if you have an S-Video output and you're trying to feed it to an RCA video jack, works perfectly. Last but not least....this is a very inexpensive solution for such things. Inexpensive, durable, functional....just like my wife. You can have the cable, and I strongly recommend you have one of these hanging around the house (you never have one when you really need one, do you?), but you can't have my wife. Sorry!

One way adapter...
This little adapter, made/sold by StarTech, has solid, HD construction quality befitting the brand. That's the good news. But, as others have noted, this adapter is useful only in one direction, for converting a S-video output to composite on the input to a monitor or recording device. If you use it in reverse, to convert a composite to S-video at the input of a monitor or recording device, you are greeted with dot crawl not just on the edges of color breaks or images in motion, but all over--very much like old fashioned snow off of analogue antenna reception or EMI interference. Unwatchable! I purchased it for this latter purpose, keeping my fingers crossed. But, no magic. To separate luminance and chrominance (Y and C) requires circuitry, not just cross wiring at a connector. To be fair, the product name is 'S-video to Composite Video Adapter Cable', and that is exactly how it is intended to be used. NOT as 'Composite Video to S-Video Adapter Cable'. Rating...4 stars for quality and good results using it the one way it does work; 1 star off for StarTech not making 'crystal' clear what this adapter is best used for, and in fact implying it could be used just as successfully in either direction.

The only one worth getting
I bought two other similar products first because I needed S-Video female to Composite male and neither of those other adapters worked at all. They were both wired wrong. Obviously never tested. If you need something that works, get the StarTech one. They make an actual, real product. Even if you need to pair it with some male/female adapters, just get the adapters. Don't waste your time anywhere else. For context, I used this to connect an S-Video modded Atari 800XL to a Composite monitor. The mod disables native composite video, so StarTech's adapter allowed me to use it with my monitor without undoing the mod. Picture is crystal clear, everything looks exactly as expected. A+ adapter, it just works.

Works, but worth the price? Eh.
It works great, but the price is a bit steep for such a simple 3 inch cord.

EZ adapter and EZ fix
This little adapter performs perfectly. I use it to connect the S-video out port on my XP laptop to the composite video input on our TV. The picture is clear and the adapter is the essence of simplicity and functionality. I thought it would take much more money than 5 dollars to enjoy the internet on our 1987 TV set. What a wonderful surprise and an easy fix!

Made Unsightly Distortions
I had bought this to try to address an issue with a VHS capture peripheral that caused some rainbow effect distortions. I had thought that by isolating the input using the SVideo capture that it would reduce or eliminate undesired capture artifacts ... This device amplified those artifacts and undesired VHS effects by a significant degree. I'm not certain what product to recommend instead but it is definitely not this one.

Ages ago we were given the full set of Jesse Stone DVD’s but the last few were region 1 so via an old Svideo to scart connection we were able to play them on the laptop and watch them in black & white on our LG TV (which has no Svideo inputs). This was very atmospheric, cool & old-school (for those of us brought up on B&W telly) but as we’ve recently started playing an excellent computer based Rummikubs clone, it occurred that it would be much nicer playing on the telly rather than huddled around the little laptop. With coloured tiles, however, B&W is totally useless. After much research and experimentation, this little cable seemed to be the simplest answer and, not surprisingly, it works perfectly. We now get full colour via the computer’s Svideo output. Not unexpectedly with component video, the picture quality, though not too bad, is not brilliant either. However, while poking about at the back of the telly I noticed an RGB VGA connection. As the laptop also has a VGA output I simply plugged a spare VGA cable that I had knocking about into the respective connectors, messed about a bit in Windows 7 and Bob’s your uncle; a really crisp picture. This inexpensive little cable is therefore redundant for its original purpose, but I’m sure it will come in handy some time or other.

It works, seems high quality. This is my 2nd StarTech product and haven't had any issues with them.
