My, how time, technology, and careers, fly! This movie was released in 2001 when Carey was a mere 31 years old, still a rising star looking for new frontiers to conquer. This is not a bad movie, if you don’t mind sudden jumps in the plot, subdued acting (or trying-too-hard acting), or music from the late 90’s/early 00’s. The supporting cast does all the heavy lifting. They keep Carey’s character (Billie Franks) engaged and get her from point A to point B. Max Beesley convincingly plays her boyfriend/producer, Julian Dice. Come to find out, Beesley is an actual musician, which explains the otherwise random marimba in his character’s apartment – which he demonstrates for Carey/Franks (few things impress a girl like a marimba solo!). Also cast is Terrence Howard, playing the dejected, tough-guy producer that sold out Carey/Franks and wants his money. It must have been this music related role that got him cast on the TV series, “Empire.” The more intentional comedy comes from Padma Lakshmi, who plays a tone deaf, wanna be singer called Sylk. She should have gotten more screen time!Yes, friends, this is not a bad movie. It’s no “A Star Is Born” (pick your version), but Carey fans are sure to appreciate it. The plot could have been aimed at the teen crowd who seem to react to melodramatic events (or is it melodramatic acting?). Carey is not totally out of her acting league, but there is no extreme emoting. Everything is rather calm and copasetic. Either that or Carey is playing her character as a passive-aggressive person. The final result is an enjoyable one-time viewing, and a reminder that Carey’s vocal range is definitely wider than her acting range.

So. Much. 2. Say.1st whoever hit Mariah with that Botox before shooting deserves an award. Her inability to express emotion through her face and eyebrows absolutely makes the dynamics of this film. Her defining emotion is perma-surprise! “Your boyfriend lied”- SURPRISE! “you won awards”-SURPRISE! Happy-Sad-Scared??? Surprised-Surprised-Surprised!The script is top notch, the producer/dj boyfriend is as complex a character ever created and the soundtrack is straight FIRE.Get cozy, drink a bottle of Rosé and watch Glitter -you’ll wake up with a headache full of dreams

Glitter is definitely not as bad of a film as the critics described it as. Yes, there were some moments in the film where Carey's acting was sub-par, but overall she seemed confident playing her character and did a pretty good job of portraying her as well. This film I must say is truly the victim of bad publicity and had an unfortunate release date. I would give this a chance! The soundtrack for this movie is also phenomenal, with songs like "Lead The Way", "Want You", and "Never Too Far". Give this film a chance, you won't be disappointed!

If you don't like glitter you were probably a victim of what I call the "media bashing" of a superstar. People really try to act like this is the worst movie ever. It's not. I'm not saying it's the best ever but Mariah does a really good job and the storyline is compelling enough; plus hello, all the singing? Never Too Far is still one of my favorite songs and this movie still makes me shed some tears...It took me a while to buy it but I'm so glad I finally did. Now I get to watch it whenever I feel like it!So I would say that if you're hesitating about watching this or deciding whether to buy it, go ahead. And please leave all prejudices and preconceived ideas about how "bad" this movie supposedly is behind. You never know you might find yourself liking it as much as me!

Alot of people say this movie sucked and blah blah blah. I never bought it for those reasons. But i was on youtube and came across a scene of her singing in a club and i had to figure out the movie and song. it was jamacian funk. so i had to buy the movie!!! it wasnt like the best acting in the world no. but it has a good storyline and great music. i even bought the cd after that! peeps say that glitter bombed bc it just wasnt that good...but lets be real...it wasnt her greates peice of work...but it was released on 9-11-2001....so nobody was really concerend about her music or anything else at the moment.....so if your hesitating DONT! its awesome

Billie Frank is a shy, young mixed-race girl who is sent away by her alcoholic mother at a very early age. At an orphanage, she befriends Louise and Roxanne. Flash forward to 1983. Billie and her friends are spotted by a record producer, Timothy Walker, who wants them to sing backup for his latest pop-music discovery. But when super DJ Dice hears Billie's incredible voice, he makes a shady deal with Timothy to get her out of that dead-end situation. Soon, Billie and Dice are making hits inside the studio, and falling in love outside of it. Eventually, the pressure of her newfound celebrity puts too heavy a strain on Billie, forcing her to decide what it is she really wants from Dice, and what she wants for herself. I just love this movie, it is cool mariah carey rocks baby ok she has a pretty voice, she is a grifted singer. The soundtrack is outstanding. Lillie s Blue is a great song.

I just love everything about this movie! I never understood why it did so poorly at the box office...definitely must've been behind the scenes industry hate because this movie is timeless!

I don't know why this movie has low ratings because I love it! It brings back memories of when I watched it when I was younger. The music is amazing in this movie! I bought the album off iTunes. Yea maybe Mariah Carey isn't a Oscar nominated actress, but I was entertained. Not every good movie needs to be rated five stars.

I love this movie i went too see it wen it first came out and i bought the soundtrack and still listen to it today i do listen to mariah and i do love her voice,,people dislike this flim alot and i think the comments are very harsh,,i dont think mariah is the best actress but i dont think shes the worst either the movie isnt supposed too be an oscar winning performance its supposed to be very girly,cheesy,sad,emotional its has elements of diana ross lady sings the blues and tina turner whats love got to do with it,,only its not as graphic and there isnt that much violence its a pg/13 sorta movie which is why i think most people find it cheesy but its not 100% aimed at an adult audience i feel only a diva like mariah could pull this off and i feel the soundtrack is so underrated i purchased it for £3 back when it came out people where not feeling it but i personally love all the sounds and think mariah was great in glitter and haters need to chill and enjoy mariahs cheesy moment and love her for it xx

Lets be honest its not Shakespeare, but then, who on a Sunday evening winding down and preparing for the week ahead wants the bard? This is a ridiculous film but very entertaining and if watched purely for entertainment is a riot! I thoroughly enjoyed it and for fans of Carey the final performance (which is also offered in a slighlty longer format as one of the DVD extras) is a joy, the song and her performance are excellent. A great guilty pleasure

As i am so devoted to Mariah carey and love her so much, i had no choice but to buy glitter and also it was amazing movie to watch with the other half we both enjoyed it and it was sad at the end and for the delivery of the speed and the disc it self i give it a 5 and recommend it to any other person who wants to buy it.

excellent service as always. this movie was bought because of the How Did This Get Made podcast. it's a terrible movie but that just makes it fun to watch.
