Using this for my mini dachshunds. All at 10-13 lbs. (true minis-long and small yet heavy). I could potentially fit 2 of them in there for very short travel bc they do get along. However it will be tight til I can set it down and expand it. I was originally hesitant seeing the cat in the photo, but is is ample for the dachshunds.I had bought this for hotel stays when traveling to dog shows as extra crate in hotel only or short car travel, this would not be a crate for long term use at a show or in my home, but could be used in a home if dog is docile. it is sturdy, well made, has firm structure in place, and expands as described. top does not unzip. You will have to unzip the front to access the dog. I would recommend this purchase if you are looking for a well made soft sided travel crate, it is a tad heavy bc of the expansions and sturdy make up, but not to much for me. **if your dog is a chewer I would not recommend this.

We purchased this product about a month ago and have just completed an international trip with it. WE LOVE IT! I want to say that when we received the product, it was by far the best quality of any of the products we researched and ordered, and it was also a little larger than the others. We shared the concerns of others about it fitting. The first leg of the flight was across the US on a smaller jet and the product worked really well. It was just large enough that it went right under the seat. While waiting on the next leg of the flight in Newark, I was able to zip out the wings for comfort and he loved being able to see around. The next leg of the flight was to Europe and the flight ended up being full. I was in a window seat and the bag fit perfectly. The fabric, stitching and zippers are heavy duty and the base is waterproof. Our cat is 12+ lbs and we were concerned about his comfort on a 20+hr day. We arrived after car, plane, bus and train -and loved our Smiling Paws Kitty Bag all the way! Thank you especially to Victoria at Smiling Paws for her tremendous help.

I really like this carrier. It's expansive abilities are great and my 10# Boston Terrier loves it. The only 2 concerns are these, First, it does not stand up by itself when open and expanded. So, if you plan to use it at a hotel or while on vacation as a regular crate, you need a way to suspend it, which id do-able with the shoulder strap.Second, it does fit under the seat - mostly. I had it on a Jet Blue Even more space seat.I had to really wedge it under there. If you are older, or not that flexible, it may be too much.So, that being said, it is really well made and my dog loves it so we are going to keep it and use it until I can no longer get it under the seat, or until I meet that one gate agent who won't let me use it.

The stitches holding the metal rod in place came already undone. I can see the metal rod poke through. Also, one of the side zippers is really hard to zip and unzip because of the angle and the bulge of the stitches (see pictures). I expected this to be of higher quality for the price I paid. Don't want to send it back because I'm in Canada. Exchanging it is going to take too long and I need it very soon. No dog or cat could have done that as I don't have one yet..

You have been warned here. This does not fit under any airline seat from our experience (we tried two different planes) which caused a number of issues while traveling with our pet. We ended up leaving the crate at our destination and having to buy a new one to take our pup home. It is true this is one of the only carriers that opens up so large but that feature comes with excessive zippers which are complicated to figure out and aren't the best quality causing extra frustration, and end up making it a bulky carrier. We also realized our pup likes to be able to stick her head out of the top while still being secured in and that is not possible with this carrier. Our dog is 18 pounds and when the whole carrier is closed up it did seem a bit snug especially with all the lining from the extensions. If you are traveling in a car this carrier would probably be fine.

I'm torn about this bag. I wanted to love it but just don't and I'm returning it. We fly internationally with our 11 pound dog a lot. This bag had a very small end pocket which isn't convenient for me since I like to keep all of my pet's travel paperwork easily accessible and it's not even wide enough for letter size paper. Also the bottom isn't rigid enough and i feel like the bag collapses in the sides as you hold it from the top handle. There is only mesh on the front and one side when it's closed and my curious pup enjoys seeing all that's around him. The expansion areas seem to work great so if that's what's most important to you, then this is your bag. If your priority is how the bag functions for you throughout all aspects of your travel, this is not your bag.

Bear (a10#Pomeranian) and I love this carrier. He can snuggle inside when all the "windows"are up. This is when it looks like a traditional carrier. Then, Bear likes being able to have "room to roam" inside this carrier. I can't believe how big it becomes when all the sides and front are open. We bought the carrier to use on vacation, but we let him try it out a few weeks before leaving. We leave it out and Bear will go in to get away from the grandkids noise. It gives him lots of room to turn around when he wants to look a different direction. And, It's so easy to open. The zippers slide easily, it's light weight to carry and the screens seem durable. It comes with a fluffy white mat. I feel the mat is too thin; and put an extra mat on top of it. Otherwise, the best carrier I've ever seen. And, it's airline Approved!!!
