Poor build quality + bad customer support
I purchased 2 of these Cactus RF60X Flashes over a year ago and they have both worked well until a few months ago. As I am a wedding photographer by trade I like to have an additional flash as a backup in case the unthinkable happens and equipment breaks unexpectedly. I was in the middle of shooting a wedding I heard a loud pop noise come from the flash and it no longer worked. I swapped to my backup and finished the session. I keep my equipment in a protective case and they had never been mishandled or misused so I thought it strange a flash with this few of hours on it would malfunction. Unfortunately by the time I got around to checking the warranty it had passed the 1 year mark. I contacted Cactus anyway and never heard a response. At this point I gave the broken flash to my spouse to diagnose as he has fixed equipment for me in the past and is an electrical engineer. He immediately noticed a screw was missing on the bottom of the unit and it sounded like something was rattling around inside of the flash itself. When he ensured the capacitor was properly discharged and safe he opened the unit up and found the cause of the rattle was due to a brass backing nut that had come loose since the screw was missing. Whether the screw just came loose or was never there was not apparent. He then found a spot on one of the circuit boards where the brass nut had evidently made contact and created a scorch mark. Following the evidence I would not recommend these flashes to anyone using them in a professional capacity. My spouse noted that there was no evidence of thread-locker on the screws to prevent them becoming loose, and once they do the internal brass nut is no longer held in place and will damage your flash.

I have a pair of Cactus V6 II transceivers working ...
I have a pair of Cactus V6 II transceivers working well with a Metz 52 AF-1 flash on an Olympus E-M1 MkII camera. I wanted to have a second remote flash on my setup and opted for the Cactus RF60x due to its compatibility with the V6 transceivers. I received the RF60x and updated the firmware on the flash and transceivers to the newest versions. I set up the RF60x as my primary flash and read the manual and watched several videos on how to set up the unit. After properly setting up I could see the transceiver changing the power level on the flash, so I know the units were on the same channel and group and were communicating. However, often the flash would not fire when the camera shutter was pushed although the flash had recycled. I went back the the Metz flash and it worked perfectly, so I know the camera was communicating with the transceiver. Sometimes the RF60x would flash and a few shots later it would not. Perhaps the RF60x was defective. I sent it back for a refund but hope to get some feedback from Adorama, the supplier, as to whether the problem was a defective unit or an incompatibility with my camera system.

Great wireless flash system
Great wireless flash system. Took me a while to get the correct settings. But I got my flash working on my Olympus. And I can have multiple flashes. Working off the same controller. It’s great. It’s a well built flash. Feels sturdy. And the battery compartment is also sturdy compared to my last pentax flash I had. Here’s the settings I used.Flash UnitsAu hss on## Controller### Functions menuSync mode normal hssExposure lock flash power lockMulti flash offDelay offRelay offGroup sequence offOn camera ttl. Outstanding product!
I'm new to off flash photography but I just got several of these units to get more creative and I love the results. I like the flexibility to be able to use these flash units on other camera brand. Cactus is GENIOUS! The only one thing I don't like is that the battery hinge/door feel pretty cheap and it doesn't inspire reliability. I feel like is going to break, and I'm not forcing the door to close is just that I have to play around with it to insert it properly before I push the door in to close it. I don't like the design. That's about it. Other than that fantastic product and I totally recommend it.
