It's often difficult to securely set up a beach umbrella. Manual augers don't work well, and they require a lot of strength and time. I considered bringing a portable drill and a sand auger bit to the beach with me recently - I know that works! But it seemed like I was over-engineering the solution. Looking for an alternative, I found the Sand Gopher here on Amazon and thought it was worth a try - certainly the price was right. And...it worked brilliantly! I confess to being surprised. I think that claiming 30 seconds to excavate a 15" hole in the sand is perhaps over-optimistic. But it never took me over a minute, and it was really easy to do, too. Once you're down that far, your umbrella stays put, especially if it has an auger on the end of it. Fellow beach-goers were in awe, and several whipped out their smartphones and ordered their own. The flat metal teeth on the end eroded away after just a few uses, but it really didn't seem to impact the effectiveness of the thing. Perhaps slightly more robust construction would help. But it's perfectly fine as is. I'm never going to the beach without it.

We also took PVC with us to reinforce the holes for our smaller tent pole DIY shade. Together they made the perfect team. We used the Sand Gopher to quickly dig the holes. Added the PVC. Added the tent pole. Packed the sand in around the top. We had perfect days as the beach as a result. 💚

This tool is so simple, yet so perfect! We live near the beach and go frequently, and among the most annoying parts is beach tent setup. It feels nearly impossible to get the stakes deep enough in the ground that the wind won't blow our tent over. After a very frustrating set up, I took to the internet in search of a solution. Insert: sand gopher. This was exactly the tool I needed! It effortlessly digs out the perfect little holes for a variety of different poles and stakes. I dig holes for all of our beach neighbors every time we go now. This is a must-have tool! Best $12 I've ever spent.

I wasn't entirely sure how well this would work but I must say that it is a very handy tool to have at the beach when setting up your shade. This saves me a lot of hassle trying to dig a hold for a beach stakes. Also, if you don't live near a beach but visit regularly, it's small enough to fit in your bag without taking up any space or adding any significant weight. I absolutely recommend this device.
