Works with retail hooks?

If you mean the ones that fit on slatwall or pegboard, then, no it doesn't as it uses proprietary fittings. Craftsman versa work and there is at least one company that makes fittings. Gladiator makes a wide range of hooks, shelves, baskets and even cabinets that can hang on the panels. Be aware they are not cheap but are on sale frequently at Amazon, Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's etc. I have never paid full price for my literally dozens of hooks and brackets etc.

What are these made of? It's hard to tell if these are aluminum, plastic, or wood. Photo looks like expanded plastic of some sort.

The seller falsely says these are wood. They are really just plastic.

It says "2 Pack(Pack of 2)". Does this mean I get two 2-packs (four total)?

No there are only 2 panels in this package.

This is for 4 shelves at 12" each, so 4 foot tall total? By 4 foot wide?
