Easy install, great unit
The laundry room luminaire started flickering again; great, another pair of 48" fluorescent tubes to recycle. Nope. Rather than continue the cycle I decided to replace the entire unit with this Lithonia CPANL LED luminaire. Installation was a breeze. It took a lot longer to remove the original luminaire and its ballast than to install this new one. A solid 75% of my time was spent just removing the old fixture. Thanks to the unit emerging from its packaging almost 90% assembled (thank you!) all I really needed to do was take a few measurements and hold the mount up against the ceiling to mark the spots for drilling. Drill. Thread the bolts through the mount into the toggle bolts, shove the toggles into the holes, pop through, tighten; this is all typical simple DIY electrical stuff. Then, the panel just hooks on one side of the mount, and latch-locks the other. Super-easy to "open and close" it and security tethers hold it gently in place while you're wiring it. If you want to change the color temperature, you'll need to open the latches and drop the unit to access the switch, so easy off/on is a pretty nice feature to have. This one's done well. Electricals are exactly what you'd expect, wire nuts, black to black, white to white, green/unsheathed to ground. Four metal toggle bolts hold the mount and luminaire to the ceiling. Bright and beautiful; it's roughly 50% brighter than the fluorescent unit it replaced, and at one-quarter the wattage. Oh, and it'll likely outlive me. Not that I'm planning on kicking off any time soon but at an hour a day of use this unit has a 100-year projected life span and I'm just not planning on living QUITE that long. No more tubes to specialty-recycle! Some helpful tips here. You'll need a few tools, but nothing any basic DIY'er wouldn't already own. And if you don't own them, this is your opportunity to purchase them because you'll use them for a hundred future tasks anyway, also known as "Honey, see, I need them because this guy in this review says I do." Your mileage may vary as may the impending status of your relationship; I have no experience as a therapist and as such this is not a counseling offer and I make no warranties express or implied that this sort of manipulation will produce the desired results. It may be fun to witness nonetheless. But in all seriousness: You'll need a 1/2" drill bit and some kind of power drill. Eye and basic face mask (hey, you've got all those leftover N95's right?) are appropriate; you're drilling the ceiling. Good: Medium flat blade and Philips screwdrivers. Better: flat/Philips bits for that power drill Flatnose/Lineman's Pliers. Most national codes require a pretty good twist a good bit up the insulation to hold the wires firmly before you cap them. Don't cut corners; your fingers won't work here. One note: SAVE THE STRAIN RELIEF from your original luminaire. This is that little plastic spacer that the wires go through, to protect them from being cut by...the razor-sharp metal holes the wires thread through on this unit. Despite the manual stating to use one, they DID NOT INCLUDE that strain relief part in the box. Thankfully, the 30+ year-old one from the removed unit fit perfectly so I didn't even need to source one and they seem to be fairly standard. All in all, great unit, zero installation issues, works perfectly.

Very well designed
Very easy to install but I did have to watch the video like 3 times. It is bright enough for my kitchen and is low profile. Dont stick to far out. Very nice and a good value for the price.

Good lighting for an ok price
I had previously bought a pair of off-brand lights like this with similar brightness and color but at less cost. Unfortunately, those suffered shipping damage, and I didn't want to mask the damage or take a chance on replacements also experiencing the same. They were returned. This unit is more expensive for essentially the same feature set, but I was concerned whether it would also suffer similar damage. While the outer packaging is pretty much the same, the inner packaging is better. There are some seemingly insignificant cardboard "brackets", for lack of a better term, wrapping the corners and middle of the fixture. These appear to have provided sufficient protection - in my case, at least. Unit arrived undamaged despite some of the typical exterior abuse that large packages receive from our fine US shipping companies. Install is pretty straightforward. Other reviews have covered that. It can be done mainly by one person, but a second helper is useful at least for holding the base bracket for marking and initial loose-mounting. Probably the "hardest" part of the entire installation is ensuring the unit is square with the room. And that's not even a problem if "close enough" is close enough for you. The 2ft x 4ft unit I got is super-bright. Especially when compared to the terrible 3-bulb frosted glass enclosure I had before (and the utterly weak type A bulbs generally available these days). Installed in a home kitchen with darker colors and a 9ft ceiling height. So much easier to see now. I'm using the middle color option, whatever that is. I prefer the "yellower" end of the spectrum, but wife doesn't like that. She prefers the other end of the spectrum, but I don't like that. Middle is a good compromise of color and actual brightness vs. perceived brightness. Some things to consider: - Some people might feel this larger unit to be _too_ bright for smaller areas with brighter colors. One of the smaller units might be better in those cases. - For a direct ceiling mount, your ceiling and upper areas of cabinets or walls might seem dark. That's just something you'll have to suffer due to the nature of the unit. It's a "down-firing" LED panel with enclosed sides. The effect is probably more of an eyeball-contrast adjustment artifact than a real thing. - Other reviews have mentioned the gap between unit and ceiling when doing the direct ceiling mount method. It's real and noticeable. If you're the type to obsess over such things, a different type of fixture may be better for you. My unit has a flaw where either a portion of the LED strips are loose and dangling or the diffuser panel is slightly indented. The result is a brighter stripe that's maybe 1/4 inch wide by 1 inch long towards one of the corners. I saw this before installing and still chose to keep the unit. It's not distracting enough for me to deal with returns and replacement, and my bet is that normal people won't ever notice it. If you're a business shopping for drop-ceiling options, I'm betting this will work great for you. It's worth ordering a single unit to test. Overall, I like it. My experience has been good enough that I'll shop for the same brand/model for other lighting upgrades that I'm planning. I have some other smaller rooms that need improvements, but they'll get the smaller sizes.

Super easy to install, great features, sleek look and design, nice options, amazing for retrofit! The way they made these is brilliant, they've thought of everything to make it so straightforward to install. One single 5'1" female who only knows the bare minimum of electrical work installed in 30 mins. with no other person.

This is exactly what I wanted. However, in spite of what the ad says, it isn't dimmable. It flickered and would alternate between bright white and warm white. I took the dimmer off and it works perfectly. It is a dimmer rated for LED units so not sure why. But the fixture and lighting options are great.

As this was an open-box return, I received this product slightly damaged and partially assembled at a good discount from Amazon. Paper installation instructions were not included, but they do give you a QR code to scan. Once downloaded, I found the instructions to be clear and straightforward. Installing the bracket that holds the panel against the ceiling for flush mounting will be easy for most of you. For me, I never know what new adventure awaits me once I'm through the drywall of the century-old house I live in. In this case, it was some strange, flaky press board that will neither hold a wood screw nor allow the supplied toggle bolts pushed into it to expand--but that's my cross to bear. The instructions and mounting kit for this product should work fine for those of you living in houses built to something post-dating the code of Hammurabi. I installed this in my kitchen. The light produced by this panel is beautifully even and quite a bit brighter than what I was getting from my old twin-fluorescent tube fixture. Because it's so bright, I recommend installing it with a good dimmer switch. The ability to adjust the colour temperature of the light to one of three shades is also really nice.
