Squirrel Buster Standard Squirrel-proof Bird Feeder w/4 Metal Perches, 1.3-pound Seed Capacity, garden green

I was a little hesitant to buy this given the higher price and the claim that it is "squirrel proof," but after doing some research and reading reviews, I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did because in the few times squirrels have tried to get anything out of it, they have failed!! This feeder is well made, it holds up with multiple birds and works as it's supposed to when a squirrel comes around trying to steal some seeds. It's also very easy to refill and clean. I like the adjustable spring setting. I have mine set to the lowest setting so only song birds up to the size of a redwing blackbird can sit on it without closing the food windows. If a larger blackbird, dove, or other larger bird tries to get into it, the windows close. I have mine set on a pole with a baffle on the post. Squirrels have been kept off the pole from the bottom and the only way they've been able to reach the feeder is if they jump from a nearby height. Just today I had a squirrel try three times to get at the seed and it failed every time and moved on. This feeder is great! The ONLY issue I have found is that if you have large enough food in it (like peanut pieces) they have a tendency to get stuck near the bottom of the tube where it narrows before it lets out into the feeding tray. I've been using only seeds since my first bag included peanut pieces and they kept getting stuck. Now that I use only seeds, it remains unclogged 98% of the time, and even if it does get stuck, I just tap the sides a few times to free it up. If you're looking for a truly squirrel-proof seed feeder, this is the one to buy!

I was hesitant about the effectiveness of the squirrel proof claims, but it works like a charm. 10/10 would recommend! Haven’t seen a squirrel successfully get any of the seed although I’ve seen attempts. The size is perfect for my balcony and durable to withstand Oregon weather. Birds seem to love it too. I spend way less on seed now and this is worth every penny!

This is an excellent feeder that works In keeping the squirrels out. Be sure that it is hung far enough (over 15 inches) from a pole or other support so that squirrels don’t just lean over to eat. It only works well with larger seeds such as sunflower seed. Birds love it.

Overall, I am very pleased with this feeder. I’ve had it for about 6 weeks. I also ordered the mini. They both work as intended and prevent squirrels from getting seeds. Mine hang from a tree branch where I was being overrun with squirrels. I’ve watched several failed attempts. The squirrels give up and scavenge the ground instead. I do have a couple of complaints... I fill my feeders with black-oil sunflower seeds. The seeds do not drop continuously. There are three separate channels that narrow at the bottom. Seeds bind up especially with the sticks that are inevitable. I have to shake the feeders to get them flowing again. Because of this, I rate with 4 stars. It would work far better if the tube was not divided into compartments. Also, the very small tray at the bottom will eventually fill up with debris. Sometimes, so much that there are no longer accessible seeds and the birds will stop using it. It’s important to keep it emptied regularly. Lastly, filling the feeder is not simple like others. You cannot simply lift the top to pour in seeds. They have to be taken down. But I quickly adjusted to the difference and believe it adds to the assurance that a crafty squirrel won’t get to your seeds! Despite these issues, I am very pleased with the Squirrel Buster feeders. They are sturdy and well-made and have worked as I hoped.. my birds have seeds again!

We purchased a cheap bird feeder years ago at a farm and home type store. I bought it to annoy my kid’s cats and placed it in front of the window that they sit in front of. The birds would stop by on occasion and drive the cats crazy. My payback for all the times the cats thought I needed to get up at 3:00 in the morning. The feeder was constantly clogging with molded seed. We could only place a tiny amount in the feeder, otherwise it would mold and be a mess to clean up. We had the same feeder for years until one day the squirrels’ decided last winter that the feeder was theirs. They would sit on a snow pile next to the feeder and play King of the hill. Anything that came near the feeder would be ran off. While the squirrel’s did annoy the cats some, they still could not compare to the amount of havoc the birds would cause. Our cats are pure evil and only complete bird torture would do. I was going to have to find a way to get rid of the squirrels so the birds could return. I looked at many devices to keep the squirrels away, and ended up purchasing the Squirrel Buster Standard, I installed the new feeder as soon as it arrived. The squirrels tried for a couple of days to eat out of the new feeder and it was very entertaining to watch them try, but no matter what they did, the Standard model kept them out and they have not been back since. Happy with my purchase, what came next was totally unexpected. The birds started coming in flocks to the new feeder. Same exact location and same exact food as the other feeder, but the birds loved the new feeder. So much in fact that they emptied it the first day we set it out. The birds just kept on coming and soon we were having to fill it two or three times day. The Squirrel Buster feeders are on the more expensive side, but the engineering and quality of parts are so worth it. We got tired of filling the feeder several times a day and decided to purchase the Plus model with the Cardinal ring. The plus feeder is pretty large, but considering the birds will empty it in a couple of days we appreciate the extra capacity. The standard model could not keep up and I ended up having to buy the legacy model which is larger and holds a lot more seed. We still have the standard model, but place fruit and nut seed in it that is not eaten as fast. We now have four squirrel buster feeders and a bird airport in front of the house. At this point I almost feel sorry for the cats, They are a complete mess and are constantly begging us to go outside. I was also, not expecting the reduction in insects. We used to have constant spider webs in our windows and would be eaten alive at night sitting on the porch. I have only seen a couple of spiders this year and we can now sit on our porch in the evening and not be bothered by bugs. I would highly recommend the company and their products. All of the bird feeders are easy to clean, easy to fill, and the birds seem to like them a lot. Very happy with the brome products other than our birdseed bill is just crazy anymore. :)

A bad storm destroyed the two bird feeders I had had for many years . I liked them so much I bought two more identical ones. The birds love them and the squirrels can’t get the bird seed.

Solved my squirrel problem!! Now just had to adjust the tension to keep the doves off and it works great. Now my squirrels just may omen tree branches and pine over once was. They watch for the crumbs and try to make me feel sorry for them.

This is an amazing feeder. However, you cannot use a plant/flower pole as one of these crazy (smart) squirrels climbed up the pole, kept his back legs on the pole and stretched his front body enough to reach the opening to the seeds, very clever...so, it forced me to place this amazing feeder on an extended branch with nothing close for the squirrel to grab and stretch out. He is so pissed off and the birds are so happy and you really do save a lot on the sunflower seed. One week after receiving my first Brome feeder I had to buy another one...they are THAT good! Highly Recommend!

I've been fighting a losing battle to keep squirrels away from the bird seed in the feeders - the problem is that squirrels are quite bright and have found ways around the other so-called squirrel proof feeders I've tried. As far as I can see and after some weeks of use, this feeder really does keep the squirrels away - I can's see how they defeat the spring mechanism which lowers a barrier when they put their weight on the perches. The mechanism can apparently be fine-tuned to stop heavier birds from feeding too, though I don't have this problem. The feeder looks well-made (and so it should be for the price) and its straightforward to clean. All in all it's worth the money to me - song birds are feeding from it regularly and squirrels no longer even try to get the seed.

I have several of these feeders around the garden and the squirrels can not get into them so long as you don't have them near a handy places where the squirrel could reach out to them. They are excellent feeders and the birds love them. They do get messy sometimes so need cleaning from time to time. I fill them with sunflower hearts which the birds love particularly Goldfinches ! My only negative about these feeders are that they are expensive but they do last !!

This is a good little feeder! We see chipmunks and squirrels trying to get in but I don't think they've ever been successful. We see the odd bird flying in. We used a general mix of seeds but I think niger seed would be best.

We bought one of these 7 years ago because the squirrels were eating the grain. It worked a treat but my dear wife got carried away with cleaning it and unfortunately broke it. We looked around to see what was available as a replacement but didn't find anything that even came close re a quality/price comparison
