A tidy little travel companion that's as helpful before you go as after you get back. I love the succinct summaries of history, art, architecture. Pictures are gorgeous and help identify all those pictures you can't quite place when you get home. Not sure how up-to-date they are in terms of places to eat or how they choose hotels and stuff, but I do enjoy reading them. I do not take them with me because they are way too heavy. Review: The BEST Thailand Guide Book - Trust me, if you want a guide to Thailand you'll want to buy this one! We went through the Lonely Planet guide, as well as a bunch of guides via Kindle Unlimited and this was the best, hands down. The book itself is full color, light, portable, and has a durable cover so it can withstand a lot of wear and tear. The text might be a little small so if you can't read smaller print you might want to have a magnifier on hand. The photographs are great, the recommendations are accurate, and the information and historical background they give on locations is phenomenal! We actually went with a personal driver and bilingual tour guide for the full 2 weeks, and we still used this book daily. The background information and tips are so good and you really get a feel for the places you visit knowing the history behind the sites. We stayed at 3 hotels listed as recommendations in guide and loved them all. I can't speak for all of the sites in the book but we did Bangkok, Katchanburi, Lampang, Phitsanulok, Sukothai, Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Phuket and the info for those cities were great!

Love the pics!
I love the DK and IDG series for their beautiful pictures, maps, and diagrams. The historic and background information in this book is helpful for me decide the places I'd like to visit on guided tours. Afterward, it will remain, among my own photos, a memento of my trip. Suggestion: if you're planning a self-tour, you may want to supplement or stick with Lonely Planet or Fodor's for more detailed explanations and practical logistics such as where to stay and eat.

Great resource for planning a Thai trip
This guidebook was a great resource for planning a trip to Thailand. The city guides are well-written, and the book covers just about every conceivable destination, not just the main tourist hubs. I found a couple of hidden gems looking through here. Dining options recommended were hit or miss, but the hotels were consistently good. It's also useful for a lot of the cultural notes for foreigners, covering everything from the wai, tipping, clothes to wear (especially at the wats), and common faux pas. Sure, a good deal of this may be available in online resources, but the book does a solid job of compiling this all into one travel-friendly resource, especially for those who may be outside of data networks while trekking across Asia.

India 2017
I got hold of this at home for some days (it belonged to a friend's friend) and decided to buy it before a 3 weeks trip to India with my daughter and my sister. Together with a foldable road map, they resulted in our next sacred books! The fact that not only it offers good descriptions and interesting facts but also pictures and infographics helped us decide where to go and which places could be left out in our Rajasthan/Delhi/Agra 3 weeks journey. OK, a bit heavy to carry it in a purse/tote while riding a camel in Jaisalmer, but perfect to read it in the long rides by car or train that this vast and wonderful country encourages you to do...

Great info but don't throw your older edition
It is a great book as a travel guide with tons of photos and maps. Lot of additional information, and tips like if have a few days makes it an excellent travel guide. However there are so many reprints published with minor graphical updates, if you have an older edition up to 2002, chances are you still can use it. I have the 2008 edition of this book and see very minor updates. No additional locations or maps were updated for the sections I looked at.

Well organized, attractive, indispensable information.
I have been happily reading this book on and off for months, pending my trip to India next month. So well organized, so much indispensable information, maps, photos, etc. It will go with me to India for constant reference. Eye Witness does the best job when it comes to guide books.

Well rounded guide book
I did things a little backwards, and went to India before buying this book. When I came back I wanted to/ am making a little journal and wanted a book to reference. This had all the places we went and were well-rounded in the informationโeven more so than the more recent versions.

Good for what it tries to achieve but equally you may be best (if you want anything indepth) to purchase a book for specific areas. However, as all DK guides it's colourful and is fun to read even when you're not IN the country, and if you're only going on a short trip, maybe that's enough.
