I will be using it to raise and lower the boat dock. Does it have the motion for clockwise and anti clockwise?

Both clockwise and counter clockwise, yes! I used a drum switch controller on each of the two motors for my boat lift.

How do I connect a switch to get the lift up and down?

I used a separate drum controller for each of which there are many available. The connections can be a bit challenging and may take an electrician if you're not qualified.

I'd like to buy a 3/4 hp electric motor. Is this one recommended?

It's not just about horsepower,must ensure that the installation size, performance, output voltage, etc. and your machine is appropriate, otherwise it can not start working
