He loved the connection to the character
This character has many similarities to our son, whom I read this story to. He loved the connection to the character. My little boy was recently diagnosed with leukemia and this story enabled us another way of how we will deal with these new things! The title made him smile...on a tough day!

Fantastic Book!
I'm a third grade teacher and one of my students wrote this review. I hope you enjoy it as much as she did! Ever felt the feeling when your favorite and first babysitter moves away? Eleanor Kane felt that feeling when Bibi (her babysitter) moved to Florida. Like Pickle Juice on a Cookie by Julie Sternberg is an outstanding book for you to read. How is Eleanor going to deal with this? This book is about Eleanor, a unique and quiet fourth grader. She wanted Bibi to stay with her and not move to Florida. But she had to move because she wanted to be with her dad at the hospital. So her mom tried to find other babysitters. But there were no babysitters that Eleanor liked. Then she began to write letters to Bibi. Will Eleanor feel better and find a babysitter like Bibi? Or will Eleanor not talk or see Bibi anymore? Nothing stopped me from reading this enthusiastic book. At the beginning, I was at the top of the roller coaster ride because some exciting news happened when Eleanor found out that Bibi was moving away to Florida. They had a going away party and everybody was sobbing with tears. The day after Bibi left was heartbreaking. Eleanor had nothing to do because everything reminded her of Bibi. Pray that Eleanor finds a babysitter! Will Eleanor get through this rough moment and find a babysitter like Bibi? Read to find out. I would recommend this book to mostly girls of all ages. I think this book could fit in many genres…realistic fiction, humorous, and more! This book can take you on an adventure ride through happy and sad moments. Like Pickle Juice On A Cookie is the book for you! Read it now!

Eleanor is endearing
When Eleanor’s babysitter moves to Florida, she is miserable. What will she do without Bibi, the best babysitter in the world? Her August is rotten with this loss. She gets a new babysitter, but she’s no Bibi. This is a wonderful children’s book dealing with changes in one’s life, making adjustments, and attachments that are broken. It’s written in verse, and Eleanor is endearing.

Novel in verse
I love novels written in verse. This is great for I’d say second grade and beginning third grade readers. My 3rd grad Students enjoyed it.

Great book for 2nd Graders
I am reading this to my class right now and I really like it. The chapters are really short and it is something they can relate to. The book has some mini pictures in it. It is an easy read. The book is based on conversations, so if they don't understand that, it would be hard to follow. There is a lot of, "My dad said........he said, she said, etc" Otherwise I love the book. A good read aloud for an elementary class.

A Great Book for Children!
"Like Pickle Juice on a Cookie" is a great read for children beginning chapter books. The length of each chapter is manageable and the added pictures are a plus. Eleanor faces a major change when she must say goodbye to her beloved babysitter. She also experiences changes as she deals with receiving a new sitter and beginning third grade. Students are sure to connect with this wonderful tale of Eleanor and her difficult summer. As a teacher, I am always looking for books that have a great message and are written well. "Like Pickle Juice on a Cookie" is that sort of book. Students can learn to welcome the changes in their lives as they experience the changes that Eleanor must face. I also love the wording and layout of the book. The correspondence between different characters shows great use of letter-writing. The use of similes throughout as Eleanor compares her situations to various items is also a plus. I can see a lot of teachable moments coming out of this book.

My granddaughter loved it.
I read this to my granddaughter, who is 8, on a day when she wasn't feeling her best. We got through it in two sittings. This is a girl who has to be made to do her reading at night. She thoroughly enjoyed it and wouldn't let me stop until the end.

A sweet read
This book honours a truth about children’s lives: that things which seem small and of no consequence to adults can be big and dramatic for children. Told from Eleanor’s point of view, the story takes us through child-sized experiences with a sweet gentleness. It’s a delight to find a story that doesn’t rely on pyrotechnics, but rather uncovers the human condition of a little girl to engage us. The expressive illustrations are perfect. It’s also a great book for young readers, written with very simple language and sprinkled with just enough big words to be completely uncondescending and nicely challenging.
