Oil stones work the best.
I have used many different sharpening stones and in my opinion Arkansas stones are the best oil sharpening stones available. I have been sharpening knives for 30+ years. There is a little learning curve but there are a lot of helpful you tube videos. Highly recommend Arkansas oil stones. 02-28-26

Very nice stones
My dad had an Arkansas stone and now I have a set. We both think they are great. Sharpen 2 knifes the other night and they came out very sharp. One thing I would say is I don't use the hard black stone because I don't know how much good it does. You might know more than me and use it. I use the hard and soft with great results. The stone company recommended refined mineral oil and it was great. I also bought that from Amazon under $6. I also use on electric razor. Norton oil. I also used to use Remington gun oil and that was good also but not as good as the mineral oil. They say online if you want you can use baby oil as it is the same thing as mineral oil with sent added. You will be happy with stones from this company. Good luck.

Quality set of Arkansas stones
Very impressed with these stones , they arrived in three days well packed . I ordered the 10 inch set , they are well made and finished , flat out of the box no defects . I was eager to try them specially the Arkansas black . I chose a Swiss Army knife as the test subject , after a few passes on the hard ark I took it to the black Arkansas to finish the edge . This stone is smooth as glass and is quite a bit heavier than the soft and hard stones I guess its specific gravity is higher . It doesnโt remove a lot of steel but took the edge to a whole new level ! It took about 35 passes each side then I checked the edge and it was like checking the edge of a scalpel ! Slices effortlessly through paper and cardboard . I would recommend this kit and bestsharpeningstones.com great service and value for money .

Excellent honing stones and excellent customer service.
I have used Arkansas honing stones since I was a boy. I have just about every other type of sharpener as well. Always looking for the next best thing. It seems to me that you get the best edge with a stone, the large flat surface helps keep the edge straight and true. Best sharpening stones has all variety of honing stones available and all their products are top quality. The customer service is top notch as well. One of the stones had a flaw in it, not quite visible until it got some use. I reached out to the seller, sent a picture and they got back to me the next day and arranged to get me a replacement. I donโt think you can go wrong with this company and their products.

Good quality, great value, but need to break in
Been using other whetstone like Japanese Kai, cheap Chinese stones, a smooth Japanese stone, some ceramic rods etc. by far, this set is offers the best value for its price.Already being warned that the stones are not at its original intended grit because of the cheap leveling machine, I use these for realignment and new knives to season the stone surface. May be after 20 minutes or more, it start to feel its difference. The move Steel/stone interaction is smooth but effective. Not like some Japanese stones which needs move effort to push the steel on the stone.I could get almost a shinny edge after the black stone, after some strobing with green compound, the edge becomes mirror like. My arm is now bare and I cut so many pieces of paper because the edge is like cutting butter.I am still new to knife sharpening so it cannot be my skill, so for such price, expect some imperfection and you will be very happy.I ordered the 8 in model because it is much better in use when compare to shorter ones.

Great oil stones
I've used Arkansas stones since I was a kid, so I'm prejudiced. But these are really good, especially for smaller blades

Theses stones work, if you use them correctly just like any other sharpening device.
I do lot's of sharpening with all kinds of stones. My friend is a trapper and it's very important to use a very Sharp knife while skinny. If not you can cut holes in the fur and lose half of the money.I'M also teaching him on sharpening his own knifes. Theses stones are making it easier for him.

Great stones
Very good products for the price. My only disappointment was the lack of lids to put over the stones when I was finished, just made my own, I suppose thatโs why they are so reasonably priced?

Budget quality
This set will surely make anyone happy. The stones are of good quality and the price is unbeatable.Sharpening on natural stones is way more 'organic' than sharpening on artifical stones. You need to spend some times with them to understand their true nature. But the more you sharpen, the more they will produce the exact result that you want. The good thing is the stones do not need to be flattened as they are true, but they benefit from being lapped and dressed a bit in order to get the best result and smooth up the surface. A diamond plate or just wet/dry sandpaper will do the trick. I recommend 400 grit for the soft, 6 to 800 for the hard and 1200 to 1500 for the black. One downside is the wood is roughly finished and I almost 'stabbed' my hand with a big shard that was sticking out, so the wood base should be sanded a bit too, and preferably oiled. Easy fix that didn't impact my evaluation.I recommend these stones for anyone with a lower budget that want to have a feel of natural stones sharpening as well as experienced users that want to experiment.

Great stones, good value in Canada.
Stones arrived promptly. They are in perfect condition. This seems to be the best price in Canada. They're a little tricky being natural Stones, but with tips from YouTube, I am able to get a finished edge on my straight razor.
