HQRP Replacement Battery Compatible with Microsoft 1st Generation Zune MP3 Player

UPDATE: July 25, 2026. I let the seller know, and they immediately sent another new battery! I commend them on standing behind their product! Hope this one lasts... UPDATE: July 18, 2026. The warranty replacement battery has now failed after 5 months (same time period as the 1st one). Won't hold a charge. As before, we never run it on battery alone, it is always plugged in. So as much as I appreciate their warranty replacement, it doesn't do much good now. UPDATE: In response to my warranty claim the seller immediately sent a new battery with no hassles. This battery has been fine now for 3 months. UPDATE: After 5 months it won't hold a charge even briefly. Note, we never run it on battery alone, it's always plugged in. So it was not being drained and charged at all during this time. ZUNE will still work, but after it's turned off, even briefly, we have to wait a long time before the "charge" icon goes away and it can be used. From past experience, it won't be long before ZUNE will be unusable again. Since this is within the 200 day warranty I just now filed a claim (21feb2026). I ordered this product hoping that it might be able to bring my 20-year-old Microsoft Zune MP3 Player what’s 20 GB of music back to full functionality and it did! Opening the Zune player was relatively straightforward; you can find multiple YouTube videos detailing the process. I can highly recommend this product.

First the bad. The original battery in my ZUNE was an 800mAh battery. This battery is 700mAh. I tried to find one higher, but couldn't. The original battery was made in China, so is this one. The quality is not the same as the original; definitely lesser quality, but it's cheap. I bought 2. I bought two of these because other reviews cite that their battery didn't last that long (probably due to the lower mAh rating). We'll see how mine does. So with the bad out the way, this battery works! It easily installed into my 1st gen Zune that finally stopped charging/holding charge. The power cable is a bit shorter than the original, but it does fit. I used a pair of precision tweezers to handle the cable and insert it into the zif power slot. With the shorter cable length, this is hard to do with your fingers. Basically that's it. It's a battery. You yank out the old, put in the new and keep it moving. I'll keep trying to find an original 800mAh battery, but in the meantime, this has returned my ZUNE music library to me.

Because of the strange bend in the connecting ribbon, the ribbon barely makes it to the connector, just a couple mm's more would have been better, or get rid of the bends like the original cable. But it works and it's super easy to install in a Zune 1. REVISED. Because of the poor quality of the connector, it will break where it bends to fit into the clip. Don't buy.

This brought my old Zune back to life.

Ordered two for two devices I was repairing. The first was a very tight fit on the zune 30gb. And standard battery is 800mah this is 720mah so slightly less battery life is to be expected. On the 2nd one the battery was miswrapped and damaged and wouldn't have fit inside of the device itself. It is still one of the less expensive options but unless it's a reliable fit you wont be able to put the housing back on and close the enclosure. And the ribbon cable is about 5 to 10 mm shorter than whats comfortable. Its a VERY tight fit. Ill update the post once ive used it for a few weeks about the batteries performance on a day to day use.

This is a good choice for a replacement battery for your ZUNE 30GB media player. It is 730mah vs the original which was 800mah. However, it seems to run just as long as the original. Also, and most important, this is the Lithium-ion version which seems to hold up way better than the Lithium Polymer version that is out there. I bought a lithium polymer replacement and it swelled up with gas inside the outer wrap and actually started pushing my ZUNE screen out of the case. It will take some time to determine how long these Lithium-ion replacement batteries hold up since the originals held up a very long time, as in 10 years or more and still working. Then again, these seem to be the only ones out there at the moment. I'm invested with several of these batteries and so, so good.

This revived my old ZUNE which was failing to hold a charge long enough to watch Hogan get over on Klink one more time late at night when sleep alludes me and Hogan's antics call.

The product is useless. This doesn’t even power my Zune 30gb. Moreover the cable to attach is designed in such a way that it’s difficult to connect to the port. All I can say is that don’t waste your money on this.
