Ok to wire four in series for a 48 volt all battery powered riding lawn mower?

Someone stated you can only charge them at a rate of 2a per hour. Thats per CELL. There are 6 cells in each battery making this 13v 12a charging, perfect for solar charging.

can this be charged with an alternator without overheating?

I have 80 of these in series and abuse them a lot. With a steady discharge current of 200A (empties the battery in 10-15 mins). They take it pretty well. Of course I’m significantly lowering the expected life time. But they are fine. 2C is not recommended but is an ok charge current for lead acid batteries. These are 100Ah. So 200A is an ok charge current for them. Just make sure the voltage does not go up more than 13.8 (I do 14.5 per battery for fast charging but again, it lowers battery’s life expectancy)
