Building on the success of previous editions, this book continues to provide engineers with a strong understanding of the three primary types of materials and composites, as well as the relationships that exist between the structural elements of materials and their properties. The relationships among processing, structure, properties, and performance components for steels, glassโceramics, polymer fibers, and silicon semiconductors are explored throughout the chapters. The discussion of the construction of crystallographic directions in hexagonal unit cells is expanded. At the end of each chapter, engineers will also find revised summaries and new equation summaries to reexamine key concepts. Great textbook!
This is a great textbook. It's well written and easy to follow and understand. My teacher isn't very good, but I'm totally learning the material from reading the book. A lot of the time, I feel confused during the lectures, but then when I read the chapter, everything really comes together. I actually enjoy reading the book. Very interesting and informative!

The Definitive MatSci Textbook
When I was finishing my MatSci undergrad degree, one of my T.A.s was taking his orals for a Ph.D. He passed handily. When asked how he prepared, he said that he studied Callister until he understood *everything*. That about says it all, suitable as an intro text for sophomores, and suitable as an advanced text for grad students.

Great at first glance
The book is actually well designed and offers a wonderful coverage at an introductory level. However the rub lies in the material covered through the examinations provided through the text book company. The material technically is in the book, however much like some of the homework sets, the information is contained within captions and side notes.

It's a text book. It does what it does. Took forever to get here.
