the answer to all my Chevy 454 V8 7.4 L 34 foot FLEETWOOD SOUTHWIND motorhome ENGINE PROBLEMS!
I have a Chevy 454 7.4 V8 engine it sits on a 34 foot FLEETWOOD SOUTHWIND Motorhome chassis. The motorhome came with the regular starter and after reading so much on these motorhomes and the 454 in them it became apparent that a mini high-performance torque starter is the only way to live I installed it and have never had a problem c motorhome chassis. The motorhome came with a regular starter and after reading so much on these motorhomes and the 454 in them it became apparent that a mini high performance torque starter is the only way to live I installed it and have never had a problem SINCE! I put in six factory starters over the course of three months no one could tell me what was wrong or why they were going bad. I finally had enough and put in this mini high-performance torque starter it is ran perfectly for four months I haven’t had to replace it and I don’t expect to sew it fixed whatever the problem was that I was having I suspect that the old starter just could not run this big engine with 18,000 pounds and 34 feet but this race car engine starter is tremendous I should’ve done it two years ago when I bought the motorhome. If you are having any problems with a motorhome that you bought that sits on a Chevy chassis or you have a 454 engine go get this Minnie I performance torque starter immediately and put it in it is super easy to put in because it doesn’t weigh 100 pounds like the other one so will hold it up while you screw in those two attaching volts is extremely easy.

Good Product
The starter looked close to the one that was on the motor. A little finicky with connections, but resesolved the problem. I got 8 years out of the old one, I hope the same with this one. Only negative was the shipping, the box had a hole in it and the bolts/shims could of easily fallen out. No directions for installation and wiring, would be nice for a novice person.

Gain extra space.
Perfect space saver between starter and headers.. works very well so far .longevity is yet to be seen but looks promising.

Works well, but a pain to install
Starts quickly, but lacks the heat shield of the previous starter. Lining up the mounting holes was tough with the provided shims, but a few swear words helped. A good product otherwise.

Avoid my mistake
There is a reason that high torque starters are $250 dollars at the local parts stores. This is cheaply made. Tolerances are not to spec. Wouldn't even get tight to the block. Bolts where wrong size. Box was destroyed when I got it. Looked like it was already returned. After I hunted up new bolts it burned out in 2 hours. Waste of 80 bucks.

Fits 3970010 staggered pattern
Comes with bolts and shims although you should not need the shims. I’ll update in a few months but easy install and much lighter than the original. The starter that was on the car had many shims and was a large starter. Took all shims and starter out and this did the trick.

Strong starter for a good price
Installed on my 406 sbc, strong from the first hit and turned the beast over easily. No shining needed either, but had them just in case it did.

Small power though install problems
Overall: The good:Lightweight, low cost, powerful, looks goodThe Bad:The bolts provided are not long enough, and one kept falling out. Almost tore up my flywheel. Had to get different hardware. Use locktight.Time will tell if this starter will last. It's easier to fit than the original starter on my 402 BBC which is 19lbs whereas this new one is 9lbs, half the size, and cranks fine to turn over a heavy big block.
