They Are Great and Work Well With My ATH-M40X and PS4
**FINAL UPDATE** I've had this mic for just over three years, still without issue plugged into my Audio Technica ATH-M40X. I used them so much for working remote and zoom parties during 2020 due to the pandemic and they are still great. I was concerned with all of the usage, since I constantly plugged then in and out of my headset - I use a DAC and the AT headphones cable for any other usage - that I thought this is where they might fail. Nope... It is still going strong. As mentioned before, people just don't take care of cords well and any cord will crap out and cause issues with the electronic if not taken care of. At $20 and +3yrs of usage going strong well with it! **Original** There isn't a lot of info on these out there so I'll share my first impressions. I literally just got it in the mail so I can't write about longevity just yet. Here are my first impressions: โข It feels pretty good albeit a bit flimsy (read light). โข The wire is braided and seems to be of good quality. โข I immediately plugged it into the controller of my PS4 and my Audio Technica ATH-M40X, and everything worked flawlessly. โข The mic is a bit sensitive. It picked up my wife's voice about 12' away. I set the mic volume in between low and medium in the PS4 settings and it helped quite a lot. โข Because of all the reviews first thing I tested was the clip and I can see why it can break very easily. The spring is too strong for the thin plastic. I will update in a few months and let everyone know how things are going. For now if you are iffy about it, just grab them, but I can only speak for PS4 and ATH-M40X owners. I don't think you will be disappointed. ***UPDATE - 5/22/18*** I should preface all of this review (old and update) by stating that I am not a daily gamer. I probably play 10-20hrs per week, but I use these every session whether playing online or lone wolf. This mic has been perfect. I have had no issues with it yet. People can hear me crystal clear and the control works great. There are only two things I wish were different, but this is me looking for issues where there are none. In other words, it's my preference. I wish the cord was a bit shorter - 3.5 ft would be plenty. Right now I have the excess nicely bundled with the Velcro strap the unit comes with. Also, I wish the 2.5mm end were a bit shorter. Luckily, in my setup I don't have to turn left much, but when I do it gets annoying when it rubs on my collar. That's it! Those are my only two complaints. Oh, I don't use the clip to attach to my shirt so the clip hasn't broken on me like others have stated, but I will agree that this part of the unit is flawed. There's too much tension in the spring. Couple that with cheap hard plastic that needs to be pulled back boom the clip will undoubtedly break on you sooner or later. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal to just not use the clip. As I previously mentioned, I am not rough with any of my electronics or corded devices and tend to baby them, so this is a case by case bases for the reviews, I guess. I will update one more time by the end of the year and see if they still hold up.

I wanted to love this, but it just doesn't work....
I high hopes for this product, and I can't say I'm that impressed... I can confirm that it does indeed fit Audio-Technica ATH-M50x as well as Sennheiser 558. The mic feels a little flimsy, but it does adjust easily and it holds its place. My friends tell me that I sound a little muffled, but in general the sound qualify is fairly good for such an inexpensive microphone... Now for the few things that really bother me. First, they claim that this set-up works for the Xbox One. I was very excited about this idea because it would mean I could use my AC's or my Sennheisers as a gaming headset. Well, the 3.5mm output does fit into the controller, but the problem is it doesn't really connect well at all. When I was trying to play with the headset plugged into my controller, any slight movement of the controller in my hands would cause the sound output to go silent. The plug was still in the controller, and I double checked everything to make sure it was plugged in just right. I even changed controllers, but nothing changed. The plug stays in the controller, but the sound cuts in and out contently making it totally unusable for the Xbox One. I have yet to try it on the PS4, but based on just plugging it into the controller, it will suffer from the same problem. My last complaint is somewhat minor compared to my other complaints, but the braided cable is too stiff. This might seem a little petty, but since the cable is braided with stiff fibers, whenever the cable rubs against my clothes, or anything for that matter, I can hear the rubbing in my ear where the cable attaches to my headphones. The Razer Kraken Headset suffers from the same problem. The constant noise when you move your head or adjust your seating position gets really annoying after awhile. I really wanted to love this product, but since I have only really been able to use this product successfully for one of the four claimed uses, I am going to have to give it two out of five stars. EDIT: After trying to use this product for a few months, and having not had any contact from the seller, I'm going to lower my rating to one star. I really wanted this product to work, but in reality its poorly manufactured and barely works for one of the four uses they claim it works for.

Fantastic mic but low budget build quality (one year after buying)
Pros: Fantastic microphone: To my delight, the microphone sounds great! I use it for streaming and recording video hooked up to my Sennheiser HD 598 SE's and it works extremely well. The boom is also very durable. Fits perfectly with my Sennheiser HD 598's Cons: Low build quality: This can be understandable considering it only costs $20, but the clip on the back of the mute/volume dial broke within a month of use despite the fact that I never actually used it once. After a year of rough daily usage the wires inside the sleeve just under the connection is beginning to fray and now rotating my head 90 degrees to the left causes audio to distort. I treat my headset very roughly though and honestly I'm not surprised it is having troubles. Short cord: The cord is short. No getting around that fact, but there are KetDirect sleeved cords in the exact same style which I bought to compensate. Conclusion: This thing is awesome! I'm buying a replacement instead of looking elsewhere.

Works amazing
I needed something that would allow me to use my Bose SoundTrue headset for gaming(PC and Xbox). This mic is designed to fit headsets such as V-MODAs, Sienheisers, and premium Bose which feature a twist to lock cable design. The twist to lock was too big to fit into my Soundtrue headsets, but instead or returning them I just grab a pocket knife a carefully shaved the twist to lock portion off. Now it fits perfect and works amazingly. I sound extremely clear in my mic test, and the build quality is better than expected. Game volume is exactly as it is with the included Bose cable, and everyone claims they hear me fine. My only gripe is how big the volume adjust/mute piece is, it's nice they included a clip to clip it on, but my preference would be a slimmer design. I've had no issues with product after months of use.

Started Off Strong | Quickly Went Downhill
For the first couple weeks of use, this mic functioned fairly well. The mic fits perfectly with my Senheiser 598 Cs (2.5mm jack). There was slight hassle when it came to setting it up, but that was likely a consequence of my old amp. After I got past the initial set up phase, everything was fine. The mic was very clear and did not pick up that much background noise. However, after 3 weeks (I received this mic 22 days ago) of use, the mic began to exhibit a lot of the negative behaviors that some other users have highlighted. The little clip broke because only part of the clip is actually supporting the spring, so all of the pressure is in one small spot. The mic started to pick up a lot of noise from when the wire rubs against clothes, as the wire is braided. This made it so other users heard really sharp spikes of noise every time the wire rubbed against my clothes. Then eventually, the mic just stopped working unless the wire was positioned in a very specific way. At this point, the mic is unusable. If it weren't for the fact that the mic is compatible with my Senheiser 598 Cs and that it has good audio quality (when it works), I would have rated this 1 star. I would recommend investing in a more expensive mic that is going to last instead of this cheaper, lower quality mic.

Works great with ATH-M50x and Xbox one
I purchased some Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones to rock out at work and started plugging them in to my Xbox One controller to have awesome sounding game audio. The problem was that I couldn't use a mic due to the funky locking mechanism used to connect cords to the headphones. I found an adapter on a random website for $35 or so, but I would have still needed to get a boom mic. This product is perfect for what I needed. It has the funky locking 2.5mm connecter to hook in to the headphones and the mic quality seems great. The only (slight) downside is the foam mic cover comes off easily. Not a big deal.

Work FANTASTIC with Audio Technica ATH-M50x. Great sound. UPDATE: BUT THEY FAIL.
Perfect. I looked for an audiophile headphone solution with microphone. I tried a Status headphone with a mic built in, and the sound quality was really poor. I found good deal on Audio Technica ATH-M50x which has been great! Then, after looking at DIY hacks as a solution, I stumbled on this boom microphone, found a Youtube review, and ordered. This solution is FANTASTIC! I get top notch headphones with great environmental isolation, plus mode-for-it cable solution with a real, directional mic. Everyone I've asked for feedback on how it sounds has responded "Great!" and no one has made any typical comments of "can you speak up?" or "what?" If I had to hunt for a negative, it's that because the headphones isolate one from one's own voice, I've a tendency to try to talk louder -- I'm making myself talk in my normal voice and not creep up louder. Update 4.20.17. Sadly, in the last couple of days, the mic has randomly failed, resulting in "are you there?" in the middle of calls. I should have paid more attention to the comments of others about the failure rate on these. Great design, but an incredibly stupid choice of wire -- I'd gladly pay more for these to actually last. I found KetDirect inaccessible for the professed one year warranty, so I knocked these down to one star because zero wasn't an option. Don't buy them -- they won't last, the warranty is bogus, and the company inaccessible.

Works with Bose QC 25s - with a quick modification
I bought these to use with my Bose QC25 wired noise cancelling headphones to a PS4. The connection to the headphones does not fit perfect, as one other person said, the plastic around the connection needs to be shaved off slightly for it to fit the deep recess on the Bose headphones. The headphones worked only in one ear before I did this. After taking a sharp knife to slice some plastic off, like sharpening a pencil, and then using nail clippers to slice off a few more small pieces, the connection fit all the way in and I got stereo sound. The mic seems to work ok but had to turn up mic volume on PS4 settings after a couple people said it was too quiet. The volume and mute buttons seem very cheaply made, as if it would make a lot of noise or break after slight use, so I straight away put duct tape on it to hold it tight, and if I need to mute, I will have to just pull the connection from the PS4 controller. Overall I am happy with this purchase for the price, with a couple minor adjustments it does what I need it to do, I still get awesome sound from the QC25s and the adjustable mic is so light, it doesn't add any weight to the unit. So I would buy these again, but if build quality and connection fit was slightly better, I would give 5 stars.

Works great out of the box with my HD598SE for use ...
Works great out of the box with my HD598SE for use with my PS4. Could not hear any difference in terms of sound quality through the drivers when compared to the stock HD598 cable. Mic is clear for gaming purposes - though has a SLIGHT tinny sound (still clear with no pops) when testing on PC. Comes with a little pop filter not shown in the images. In-line control box with volume control + mic mute is larger than what I'd prefer, and the clip and housing are made from cheaper materials. Rest of the mic/cable is fine - braided cable and mic boom is thin and easily malleable, but holds its position perfectly. Nothing negative to note as of yet - though I have been taken extra care to not yank or pull on the cable in any way to prevent any damage. Overall - super happy about this purchase, great alternative to those who like the idea of the ModMic, but would prefer a single cable.

For the price, you can't complain....too much.
So I'll just keep it simple; [Pros] -Fits the M40X's and the HD 598's well -volume control and mute swtich feel sturdy and well made -cable and unit doesn't feel cheap -captures voice well with more lows than mids or highs, making the receiving end pleasurable -goose neck on mic feels well built [Cons] -goose neck could be a little longer -strong high end 'hiss' can be heard when the gain on the mic above average -slight grounding issue found when the mic is against skin -plastic on the connecting piece (as shown in picture attached) is already showing wear in only a matter of a few days -package cannot be reused

Halle-freaking-lujah
This is the solution to a problem I've had for a bit now. How to make my ATH-M40x have a mic that is not as expensive as a mod mic? This right here was the perfect answer. Pros: It fits my headphones perfectly and the mic has very nice audio quality. There's not much difference in audio quality between the stock ATH-M40x cable and this, so this a plus. The mic comes with a protective foam that filters out some of the background noise which is great, and the sound quality is crisp and clear. The controller clips in nicely and the controller is responsive. The mute mic switch works just fine, and the volume wheel started a bit stiff, but after some usage, it's much smoother. Cons: None that I could find. This part is more of a personal wish, rather than any criticism of the product. The audio and mic splitter felt a bit tight, as the split is really tiny (length-wise), but the advantage is that it doesn't hand loose (like the V-Moda), but I wish it was juuuust a bit looser. The colour. If there was more colour variation it would be a definite plus. The volume control wheel position and the mute button. They could make the controller a bit smaller and perhaps a bit wider if they put them on opposite sides rather than on the same one. I find myself reaching for the volume control but sometimes find the mute button. It's not that big a deal, as it takes just a few more seconds to find the wheel, but it would be a nice quality of life change. Edit: after a week of usage, the little clip on the back of the controller broke. I contacted the seller and they responded super fast. They sent me a new one free of charge and this one has been doing great. Honestly a pleasure to do business with.
