Guardline 500 Foot Range Wireless Driveway Alarm [1 Motion Detector Alarm Sensor & 1 Receiver] Weatherproof Outdoor Security Alert System for Home & Property

This is an augmentation to my original review below which at the time I had rated this product at four stars. I changed the rating to five stars because in the time I had it, it worked quite well and then when I had a problem four years later I was very satisfied with their customer service. I purchased this item in December 2016. The item worked quite well and I was quite satisfied with it. There was an occasional false alarm which I think is to be expected. More than once when I looked in my driveway there was either a squirrel or a crow that had set it off. In August 2020 the sensor started acting up. It kept going off every few seconds. I followed the troubleshooting section in the instructions to no avail. At the bottom of the manual there was an email address for more information. I sent a note to Guardline asking for help in fixing my alarm. They replied they were going to send me another sensor. I wrote back and told them this unit was not new and that I purchased it about four years ago. They wrote back and told me they shipped me another sensor anyway. Now, you can't beat that for customer service. ==============Original Review============== I just finished installing this product so I cannot yet comment on the reliability it. I will give my initial impression. This is more expensive than most of the other alarms. I purchased it because of the high ratings in the product reviews. The sensor housing looks cheap. That doesn't mean it won't be reliable but I would expect better cosmetics for the hundred dollars I paid for it. My biggest objection is the ball joint that is used to aim the sensor. It is far too loose. I received and e-mail from the vendor that sold it to me about the time it was delivered telling me about the product. In it, it had this sentence: "If your sensor doesn't stay pointed in the direction that you aim it or the ball joint is loose, you can easily fix this by tightening the screw located on the back of the mounting plate." This is not true. I tightened it as much as I could and it still was loose. I suppose one could put a drop of glue on the ball joint to keep it in place but that should not have to be necessary. The instructions were a little hard to follow and there were a few minor mistakes in them. For example, it said see section "G" to set some of the advanced features. The settings were described in section "I." Also the instructions showed three sets of four DIP switches each set of switches labeled 1 to 4 to set the advanced features whereby on the unit there was one set of 12 DIP switches numbered 1-12. Most people wouldn't be changing these advanced features anyway (I didn't) but, like I said, it was somewhat hard to follow. In Amazon's product description it says, "4 “zones” allowing up to 12 sensors per zone." But according to the instructions there can be no more than 4 sensors per zone,16 total. But even that seems to me more sensors than I can imagine anyone using. There are plenty of melodies to choose from - 32 in all. A different melody can be set for each zone so one doesn't have to look at the sensor to know what zone has been tripped if one learns what melodies go with what zones.

I purchased two different driveway alarms with the idea of doing some comparative testing. This is my initial impression of the Guardline GL2000 and eMacros HS-002 Solar Driveway alarm and I will add to this after the units are in service for several months. Sensor Appearance: both have a similar appearance and seem to be made from the same brown hard plastic; both are made in China; both "eyes" are opaque white plastic and flash red when they sense moving heat. The Guardline settings are controlled by dip switches inside the unit, whereas the eMacros has a panel on the bottom covered by a silicone flap with switches for sensitivity (including off) and channel selection along with a microUSB charge port for initial setup. Sensor power: The eMacros has a solar panel (obviously) and an internal 18650 lithium battery and the Guardline requires 4 AA batteries. The batteries on the Guardline can only be changed by removing 4 small screws through the front (they supply a screwdriver for this) and changing in the field might be difficult without losing one. Depending on how often the batteries need to be replaced, I may just take the unit off it's post and change them on a bench. The need to change batteries was my main motivation for buying the eMacros unit, since it should be more maintenance free. Detectors: Both have volume controls, offer different tones, can pair with different sensors if you have more than one and have a place for optional back-up AA battery power. The Guardline receiver is larger and square and sits on a flat surface at an angle. The eMacros receiver is disk shaped and sits flat on a table or can be hung from a wall. The Guardline is powered by a DC adapter with a round jack and the eMacros with a microUSB type charger. Documentation: Both come with quick-start guides and instruction manuals that are well written. The Guardline owners manual is much more extensive and detailed which describes features that Guardline has that eMacros does not. For example the ability to control external devices when the sensor detects movement and the ability to pause detection for a preset period of time, which would be useful when there is a lot of activity around the sensor, like mowing the lawn. Initial impressions: Both units were up and running in minutes once I had charged or put batteries into them. They came factory paired to their receivers and did not interfere with each other. I found the default Guardline tone more pleasant that that on the eMacro, but both are sufficiently loud to be heard throughout our 3 story house. Initial Performance: I placed both sensor units on a post 12 feet from the centerline of our driveway and 375 feet from the living room where the receivers are placed. Before long, a delivery truck came down the drive and both alarms went off. Note that this is well within the reported range of the Guardline (500 feet) and the eMacro (1/2 mile). The installation of both of these units was a breeze and both worked as stated right out of the box. Stay tuned for my long term update to this posting...

EDIT, 9/30/2017: It just rained, and the rain pushed the sensor downward, probably about an angle of 30 degrees, so only the closet half of the driveway was being monitored. The cover is a little dinky thing that sits on the sensor like a hat, so it's not easy to try to tape the sensor in place. I'll have to try to come up with a more permanent solution. I shouldn't have to deal with this for something I paid $100 for. I wonder how often that has happened to others without them realizing it. I was lucky to notice it myself so quickly. So I lowered my rating to 4 stars. If I continue to struggle with this problem, I'll revise my review. ORIGINAL REVIEW, 9/30/2017: I love this little thing. It's really nice to have advance notice when someone is approaching the house, whether they are there for legitimate purposes or not. Delivery people typically don't ring the doorbell, but this lets me know a package is at my front door. If I want to pretend I'm not home, I can be quiet before someone approaches the house so I won't give myself away. Friends don't have to wait on me if they are there to pick me up without me having to wait at the front door. I also use it for hanging out in the backyard where I can't hear the doorbell. The receiver can be both plugged in with a cord, and battery powered (4 AAA's). So I can just unplug it, carry it with me and sit it next to me, and just re-plug it in when I go back inside. Once fastened, the sensor can be moved to any angle you want. I have mine pointed at the corner of my neighbor's house so it won't point to their backyard, so I don't have to worry about it going off when they are walking around their backyard. There are 32 different chimes that the receiver can play. They vary in length, volume and abrasiveness (such as a car horn vs. a baby melody). There is also a volume control. It's not so loud that it will overcome your stereo on full blast, but it's loud enough. I have mine set to the Charge! tune they play at the Kentucky Derby/horse races, which isn't too jarring, long enough so it registers, but not so long that it gets on my nerves. There isn't a switch on the outside of the sensor, so the only way to disable it is to unscrew the front and remove the batteries, and that's impossible to do without setting it off. I guess you could also just cover it up or point it to the sky, but that will also set it off. The color is ideal, as it is not noticeable at all. Even the receiver looks sharp sitting on the counter. The sensor eye turns red when it is set off, but you can't see it in broad daylight, but I don't know why they have it do it in the first place. I also like how it can be paired up with additional sensors and receivers. I was considering a very inexpensive competitor that is white, which seems to defeat the purpose, as you would want it to be more camouflaged. If someone knows it is there, they can just walk around or under it. Also, the competitor has an on/off switch right on the side of the sensor. What?!? That seems really dumb. The competitor's receiver also is the type that plugs right in the wall, and I was worried about if I used it by the pool, the outdoor plug with the cover is not the type where you can easily cram something sizeable right up against it. Also, I since I can put this one right next to me, I don't have to worry so much about hearing it if I'm not sitting right next to the outlet. This is expensive, but it seems very reliable and easy to use. I'm very glad I got it.

I'm a security guard and I use these sensors to establish a temporary perimeter when on duty and tasked to watch large areas outdoors or even small areas indoors where I dont have CCTV or direct line of sight. Guardline is head and shoulders above my old sensors from 10 years ago where if I wanted to guard four different approaches I would've had to buy four different receivers and they all had only one tone. I absolutely love the swivel mount on the Guardline, that is also something my old sensors couldn't do so it always took a lot of trial and error to get them positioned and angled correctly. Also with the predrilled holes and the flat back plate and I can have them mounted in a flash either by hanging them by hook, bungie cord, or velcro. I absolutely love the receiver, how it's smartly designed to sit upright and stable with its light up display and multitude of programmable chimes and tones for the four zones. Programming is simple and easy. The analog volume control is a godsend, which is a feature I didn't have on my old ones, it was either high or low and that was it; when using it indoors the low volume setting was oftentimes still too loud especially if you were trying to be discrete. The one thing I will hit the receiver on is I wish the lights were a little brighter or larger because when setting up the sensors I would often be a couple hundred feet away and thus unable to hear the chime, so i had no idea if it was recieving the signal or not. On my old driveway receiver it had a large red LED bar light that could easily be seen day or night. The sensor is seemingly bulletproof too, as I have yet to see it miss or fail to detect any motion. Unlike my old sensors, Guardline sensors seem to have far more leway regarding line of sight to the receiver, thus they dont take forever to set up. Having this sensor package vs. my old one is like going from horse and buggy to a modern vehicle. I don't regret the purchase.

Fantastic unit. Does exactly what it's supposed to do. We have the transmitter located about 150 feet away from the house down at the end of the driveway. Like one of the other reviewers here on Amazon, I went to Walmart and bought a $9 cedar birdhouse and mounted it on a knee-high 4x4 post, and placed the transmitter inside of the birdhouse with the motion sensor lined up with the round hole in front of the birdhouse. Very neat and tidy installation, and will keep the elements off of the transmitter. We placed the receiver unit in our kitchen which is centrally located in the house. We have no problem picking up the signal and haven't had any false alarms. The first morning after we installed it, we were awakened by the chirping receiver, only to look out the front windows and see that birds were trying to move in. I went to the garage and found a piece of clear flexible plastic from some packaging for another item and cut it to fit over the hole. I used Gorilla tape to fix the clear plastic to the inside of the birdhouse. It works very well. The neighborhood deer also seem curious about the bird feeder and set off the alarm sometimes late at night. We bought this alarm to let us know when someone either pulls in or walks in the driveway. Although our dog has a wireless underground fence, once somebody crosses that line, he immediately goes after them. This alarm lets us know to go grab the dog and put him up before the people get out of their car.

We purchased this specifically to pick up the dogs who keep poaching my chickens- They chewed a hole into the side of the coop last time they visited. (At least our game camera got nice pictures for the local authorities!) Our property is at the top of a steep hill pretty much only accessible by a steep driveway. The driveway is about 100ft long and 20ft wide, with an embankment on each side starting half way up the hill, which creates a sort-of funnel. There are no bushes or weeds anywhere around the system or in front of it (think desert xeriscaping). It is mounted 15ft along the driveway from the road, on a 4"x4" post in the ground, and it goes off FREQUENTLY in the middle of the night. In the last 2 nights, for example, it went off at 2:35am last night (windless night), 1:18am and 4:20am the previous night (slight breezes)- each time we jump out of bed and run out of the house to see what is going on, but there is nothing there! In the 2 weeks we have had the system installed, it interrupts our sleep at least 5 out of 7 nights per week, and there has NEVER been an obvious reason for it to be going off. So, not only am I losing sleep every night on false alarms, we tested it today with one of our dogs on leash, running and walking in front of it, and it only picked up our 60lb boxer 6 out of 10 times- that is a whopping 60% of the time, which in my book is an EPIC FAIL! Also, we have noticed that frequently someone driving down the driveway does not cause an alarm, but it does go off when someone is driving up the driveway. Our testing parameters: our neighborhood has NO street lights; the dog test was done with the skinny cover removed from the lens during birhgt daylight; the system is mounted 4 ft above the driveway and directed slightly downward, and is set on speed setting 3-6ft/sec; detector distance option is set on 26ft; the receiver is 120ft from the mounted system because when we put it at 140ft from the system, it did NOT pick up the signal at all. Update: Yesterday we spent 2 hours adjusting the angles on the sensor in order to see vehicles, people, and medium sized dogs in 3 "zones" (close up, mid driveway, and far edge of driveway). It wasn't perfect by any means, nor consistant, but we thought it might work okay. Then last night, it went off 3 times (10:15pm, 11:40pm, and 3:30am). ALL were false alarms. We are at the end of our rope with this system - 1 more false alarm, or UPS guy knocking on my door without the driveway sensor giving me fair warning, and this is going back. Also, the instructions need more detailed information, for example a visual diagram showing the horizontal and vertical angle ranges that the sensor sees would make it MUCH easier to set up (without having to resort to calling the company as the company suggests). I have downgraded the previous 2 star rating to a 1 star rating.

I spent hours pouring over reviews for products like this, ultimately deciding on this particular brand/model. I love the receiver- it looks nice, has nice tones, sounds good, adjustable volume, etc. The transmitter is not the prettiest thing, but I think it helps to make it not so conspicuous as well. I screwed mine to a plank and screwed that to a tree, then covered the housing with camouflage tape so it's really not that visible. It took a lot of trial and error to adjust it JUST RIGHT to get the coverage I need. My driveway is 3 cars wide, so it wasn't easy to get it right. False alarms? None. It WILL pick up the neighborhood cat, but it doesn't pick up the squirrels! And we have a lot of squirrels! There has been a few times that I didn't hear it alert and there was someone at my door, but I could have just missed it as I have it in my office and I can't always hear it if I'm in the kitchen or at the other end of the house. That's OK though, because I bought it for when I'm working in my office and need to know if someone has pulled up. The only annoying thing is when my kids' friends discovered it and kept waving their hands in front of it to "light it up" and there's been a few several minute spans where it goes off continuously because of this. Ugh. Anyway- happy with this product, glad I chose it, and time will tell how the batteries hold up. This is a 2-week review and so far so good!

First impressions count, here are mine: 1. The company spent a LOT on packaging to distract from the simplicity of this device. This is almost Apple level packaging to make you feel you're getting something impressive and valuable. 2. The product works as designed. I like that the IR sensor is adjustable in range and detection although infinite adjustable (like this amzn.com/B00KTCTV8G) would be even better 3. Given the attention to detail and comparable build quality to the much lower priced alternatives I'm ok with the price/performance value. However the price prohibits a higher overall rating. Yes, you get what you pay for but this is NOT a good value. If cost is a primary factor, look elsewhere. My recommendation: Build your own with components such as the sensor I linked to above. 4. It is out of date. The power cable should be USB. The unit should have read/write flash memory to add custom ringtones. Wifi, Integration with smart homes, etc. should be added. 5. I am a satisfied customer but I am unlikely to be a repeat customer. At this price I expect more than just reliable functions. Edit 3/14 3 weeks in and very few false positives once I adjusted the angle and reduced the sensitivity to lowest setting. Our driveway is 220' long and at the medium distance setting it would still get set off by large trucks driving on the road. The available sound samples quickly became repetitive and annoying and we've settled on the barking dog as the list annoying, yet ear catching sound.

Ogni tanto presenta falsi allarmi dovuti a piccoli animali (gatti nella fattispecie) che in teoria non dovrebbe rilevare. Per proteggerlo maggiormente dalla pioggia ho realizzato una copertura supplementare in rame sottile che funziona perfettamente. Dall installazione (20/09) non ho ancora sostituito le batterie del rilevatore.

Vraiment exceptionnel, fonctionnement sans faille, et surtout évolutif de multiples façons. j'ai chainé une sirène à 50m du récepteur si je suis loin du récepteur. le détecteur mange très peu de piles et fait une détection intelligente. le récepteur est réglable comme on veut... Pour exploiter toutes les possibilités il faut quand même réfléchir un minimum..

I bought this to replace an old Friedland detector (used on my driveway) which had failed, and is now obsolete. Never having heard of Guardline, I chose their product simply because it has the facility to connect to external sounding devices, which was essential for my application. I'm so glad I did! The items arrived a day earlier than promised, superbly packaged and obviously extremely well made. For example, the four screws that have to be removed from the sensor to fit/replace the batteries are machine screws mating with threaded inserts, far superior and more reliable that the cheap and nasty self-tapping screws into plastic posts that many manufacturers provide. Yes, the screws are small and fiddly (as mentioned in the instructions), but at least Guardline do provide a suitable screwdriver. The instructions themselves are comprehensive and fully detailed making set-up a doddle. There are numerous customising options that can be tailored to individual requirements/circumstances by adjusting internal DIP switches inside both sensor and receiver. Very versatile. In summary, I am delighted with this purchase, and fully recommend it. In fact, I was so impressed, that I bought another one the following week for my garage/workshop! Thank you Guardline!

I installed 2 sensors at the rear of my property to cover a gate and verandah it was easy to program and I have had no problems. The sensors are very well made and are very high spec compared to most products produced these days.

I bought this and an extra motion sensor. I have one inside my detached garage and the other inside my barn entrance. The garage is over 300’ from the house and it works perfectly through the garage walls to my bedroom on the opposite side of the house. The barn is further but not as many walls to go through so works fine as well. Literally took longer to install the batteries than it took to set it all up. I set it to only work at night so I don’t set the alarms off all the time during the day. Fortunately I have not had a real alert yet but from my testing I’m confident it will work great. I may order another sensor for the driveway. Only issue is, if it’s pointed towards a road the head lights of passing cars will set it off sometimes even if it’s set to the lowest sensitivity.
