Can I buy additional dividers?

I am not sure how that would help you unless you lost the original dividers. Camera lenses and equipment takes up space. Eight lenses fit snuggly into mine. I do not think you could get more than eight in the case.

I am going to need to be able to fit a 200-500mm Nikon lens with the body connected, will this by itself fit? It measures 13 inch long and 6 inch tall

You can adjust the dividers to fit, but this is not something you would want to carry around like a camera bag. The sides are not rigid and the size makes it awkward to carry with the shoulder strap. I have three of them and they sit in drawers at home or the trunk of my car to protect my gear when its being stored.

How come i only got 4 short dividers? (== 6 compartments) the photos show 6 dividers (plus the long one). not using this for camera; i need them!

You should have received 1 long center divider and 6 short ones allowing for 8 compartments. I’ve bought 2 of these for fishing reels and each one came with 6+1 as pictured.
