I'm actually starting to bake thanks to this thing!
My wife and I just recently remodeled our kitchen and I got this mixer to be sort of a cherry on top. My wife loves to cook and the idea was that this would help make our new kitchen even better and she would use it to start doing more baking. I was right in all counts but it was me, not my wife that suddenly started baking. I'm now baking a couple of things a week. That should be your first clue on how good this mixer is. I've never really baked before until we got this machine but the mixer makes baking so much easier that I've started enjoying it. I've made bread, cookies, muffins, cupcakes, cake and even homemade frosting so far with this. This machine literally takes the least fun thing in baking (the hand mixing) and makes it the easiest and simplest. Here's the good. The machine is powerful and easy to use. I have found it plenty powerful for any baking job I've thrown at it. Even sourdough bread dough it had no trouble mixing. It's very solidly made. You won't be breaking this thing very easy. It's surprisingly quiet. I mean it's a mixer so it does make noise but I was expecting a lot noisier machine than it is. It's quiet enough that you can have a normal conversation with someone standing next to it. It's 4.5 quart bowl is plenty big for most household baking projects. Lastly the bowl and mixing attachments are super easy to clean in either the dishwasher or even by hand. The bad. The bowl should have a handle on it. It's stupid that it doesn't have one. The next step up mixer is the Artisan and it's 5 quart bowl has a handle. Kitchenaid sells extra bowls for this mixer and they have handles. So there is no reason for this mixer's bowl not to have one. It's lack of a handle on the bowl almost made me give this mixer 4 stars instead of 5. Lastly this mixer needs a lot of vertical space. If the location you want to use this at in your kitchen has cabinets hanging over it you might have a problem. The mixer is 14" tall but that's when the head of the mixer is in the mixing position. When the mixing head is tilted back the mixer is almost 18" tall. Keep that in mind. You might want/need to go with the more expensive lifting bowl mixers if you don't have enough vertical space for the mixer. In the end this is a high quality product. If you're looking for a mixer to use every week or so on baking projects and want something that's going to be high quality this is your choice. It's really made baking a lot more fun for my wife and I. I do recommend however you pick up an extra bowl as it's always good to have a second bowl and having a handle on your bowl makes the bowl easier to handle.

Another check off the bucket list!
This is a "Bucket List" purchase and so worth the price. When I was twelve years old my aunt (who baked wedding cakes) took me under her wing and taught me the ins and outs of good baking. I have wanted a KitchenAid mixer ever since and this was a Christmas gift to myself. I have owned several mixers in my life and all have been adequate to the task, but the versatility and reliability of the KitchenAid is beyond compare. The only thing I haven't done so far is make bread dough but that is coming. The other recommending feature is that, simply put, this mixer is a work of art; being the son of a machinist nothing is more gratifying than the perfect combination of function and beauty and this mixer is all of that. I read all of the negative reviews before I made this purchase and I made the purchase with eyes-wide-open. I am sympathetic with those folks who had a less than satisfactory experience, but for me this was a slam dunk.

Just right for a family of four. Best mixer ever!
I got this for Christmas from my mother in-law. It is fantastic. I have not made bread yet, but I will be concerning that soon. It washes well and was easy to use. I had a smaller mixer that was on a stand, but not a kitchen ad. Just to see if I would use something like this often. I didn’t want to just spend this kind of money on something I never used. I used the smaller one all the time. So, I discussed get one of these with my hubby. It is a lot of money. He said let’s see what you get for Christmas. My mother in-law has asked what to get me for Christmas. He already talked to my mother in-law about getting one for me. I love it! I have had it less then two months and I use it at lest twice a week. My hubby is now going on a diet...lol.

I also love that I can turn it on and do something ...
I'm going to assume there are people reading who are going through the same debates I had. First and foremost, do I even need a stand mixer? Well... No. But it is SO much easier!! I find I bake more because it's already out on my countertop. With a hand held mixer, I have to get it out, find the attachments, get a bowl... Ya know, typical lazy people problems, but really did detour me from making things if my time was limited. Now I just pour my ingredients and go. I also love that I can turn it on and do something else. So it shaves some minutes from baking and cooking. Second: Will it take a lot of space? That just depends on how much space you have in general. I live in a one-bedroom apartment. I don't have the most space in the world, but I have the mixer out with my other kitchen tools and sitting at an angle, if that makes sense. So it doesn't take up much room at all. Third: Which line of KithchenAid Mixer should I get? I debated for a very long time on this. I must note that I was debating with Black Friday quickly approaching. I scoured every website, every store, and newspaper circular looking for the best deal and what would suit me. I was put off by the classic line because it didn't come with a handle on the bowl and the lack of colors. I know the latter seems silly, but I like for my kitchen to be aesthetically pleasing. I could get the Professional line cheap at Sam's in the right color. However, I don't like how the bowl mounts and dismounts because it may spill batter and... It's a little overkill for me. That thing is huge. I had actually decided that the Artisan line was best for me. BUT... the classic was such a good deal on Amazon for Black Friday, I couldn't resist. The savings made it worth it and allowed me to purchase a 4.5 quart bowl with a handle and still come out about $70 less than the Artisan line. As for the color, I found that there's a whole movement of people who decorate their mixers (some bloggers are very opposed to this). I got a cute decal in mint green fairly cheap. I actually like the decal much better than the aqua color I was so dead set on getting. It works wonderfully. It doesn't take up nearly as much room as I thought it was going to. It looks great in my kitchen. It has saved me a lot of hassle - especially since I have two bowls now. I'm so in love with it, I'm thinking about getting more attachments. This was the best purchase I have made for my kitchen in a long time.

We use this for making the dough for Roti, and it's perfect. I purchased a used one in 'very good' condition as it was far cheaper. The product was just like brand new and everything works perfectly!
