Yanni Live at the Acropolis

It only fitting as it turns out I am writing a review of this concert by Yanni exactly on the 25th anniversary it was held. I would first hear of Yanni a few months later when the concert, that was videotaped for future release, would appear on PBS during one of their pledge drives. I was totally captivated by both the concert and the music being performed. I have since a young child had a strong interest in music of all styles. The one thing that struck me most with the music is that it sounded like a blend of several kinds of music all in one. It certainly had a classical music sound to it thanks to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playing on stage with Yanni and his group of musicians. But there was more to the sound than just classical. There was certainly a contemporary sound as well to it. Sort of a mixture of Jazz, Rock, Pop and World beat. It was nothing I had heard before... and I liked it. No, really I loved it! PBS would show this concert a couple of more times during that pledge drive and I watched those viewings too. Over the years I bought this concert on CD, video tape and then eventually DVD when I could no longer play the video tape. Now I have downloaded "Live At The Acropolis" onto my prime video account to watch on my phone anytime. I never tire of listening to or watching this amazing concert.As for Yanni and the rest of his backup musicians they were outstanding. Yanni was in top form that evening but then He was really inspired. Born in Greece then later immigrating to the U.S. where he would develop his musicianship and composing talents his "Live At The Acropolis" would be the first time for Yanni to perform in his home country. To do it right under the Parthenon gave a magical feel to the evening. All in all whether you listen to or watch this truly special concert I promise you will be blown away by the whole experience. I highly recommend you down load this concert and see and hear for yourself.

Saw Yanni Live At The Acropolis on PBS some yrs ago. Recently bought DVD for myself and enjoyed all over again. Was thrilled and surprised to see at bottom of Amazon listing for DVD that he was performing LIVE in New Jersey July 2018. Performance was SPECTACULAR!!! Yanni's love of what he does and of giving the audience their money's worth was obvious. Can't say enough! Now buying a copy for a friend when I visit them in Greece this year. Was going to take my copy but they might want to keep it! I can't let it go. The dual between the two violinists was a sight to be seen and heard!! See him LIVE if you get the chance. He performed a lot of what is on this DVD.

I first saw this concert on my Public Television station years ago after I heard his song Santorini in a promo for a local special called "The Making Of The Rainforest" that aired on WEWS Cleveland around 1992. I was very impressed and got a taste of what New Age music sounds like. I've been watching nearly every Yanni concert on Public Television ever since his first concert at the Acropolis and he never seems to disappoint. When I found out he was celebrating the 25th anniversary of this show, I had to watch it again and I loved the concert even more right now.

Anyone who loves music…….. You will love this concert! After seeing this, got to see him in concert in an outdoor concert in Salem,Oregon! Unbelievable Music 🎶 🎶🎶🎶

If anyone has not seen this, you're doing yourself a disservice. Anyone that loves classical music must take a gander. The music is passionate, thrilling and it fills you with a sense of power as well as comfort. Very moving.

My husband and I saw him twice in person, and this concert has been a staple for us for years. I was actually at the Acropolis a few years ago and saw the venue. It's muc smaller than it looks from the camera angles.

If you examine these photos you can seen the scratches on the dvd, the tab that holds the dvd in the case tightly is broken off and the cover is worn. look as my receipt and see that it says that the dvd was supposed to be in new condition, yes, it was badly wrapped in plastic but that doesn't mean that what was inside, was new.
