The Night She Disappeared: A Novel

Intense, somewhat dark, very suspenseful.
There is a looming sense of fear and dread throughout the entire novel, definitely a could-not-put-it down listen. I loved the narration, perfect for this gripping novel. The plot is outstanding, typical of Lisa Jewell. Suspenseful and unique, not at all predictable.I’ve listened to over a hundred books since I retired 5 years ago and this is my 6th Lisa Jewell novel. Lisa Jewell is the only author I tolerate some profanity, as she uses it not for shock value, but for characterization. It is clearly used to make the reader dislike (even loath) some characters, to give particular characters’ uniqueness and personality. I also tolerate some of the sexual (not detailed) indiscretions in her books, and in this one a same sex relationship. All that said, there are some authors that can do all that without profanity or sex.The characters are so vivid and emotionally well-drawn. I cared what happened to them in spite of their flaws and poor life choices.I took off a star because there was just something “off” about the ending. Like it was so rushed that it needed to be explained in and epilogue? The Night She Disappeared has such a great storyline, such well-drawn layered characters, I’m not sure why the epilogue could not have been integrated into the character’s actions and events.

She does it again!
This is the second book I have read from Lisa Jewell. I was slightly tormented the whole way through. Lol the first book I read from her was Then She Was Gone and that book had me messed up for days. This book had me fearful the ending was going to be similar. However, I am glad it ended slightly happier. I do like her books but imma need some breaks in between because she makes me feel so deeply for her characters that I need a minute to recover afterwards. So, solid book, a thorough mystery as to what happened, many working pieces and characters at play. You should read it!

Suspense 🔥🔥
The amount of suspense this book has is great! Each and every chapter had me changing my mind on what the ending might be. I won’t lie, the ending ended up being ONE of the many endings I imagined but the fact that it kept me on my toes was great!

Good Thriller
Great mystery/thriller. I read this book after finishing Gone Girl and it did not disappoint. Only thing that bothered me was the overuse of the word “Oh” by literally every single character. Seemed like they all said it every other sentence. Really annoying and repetitive about that.

Splendid
From beginning to end, a great mystery that grabs you from page one. I've read many books of Jewell and loved them all, but this one leapt to number one favorite. Don't miss it!

Perfectly brilliant!
I like all of LJ's thrillers (especially Watching You, which is a masterpiece) but this might be the best of all. Intricately constructed plot and a real puzzler, a great read. Hats off!
