Does this printer come with ink?

NEW (not refurbished or "refreshed") printers come with "setup" cartridges, which do not last very long. DO NOT sign up for the instant ink nonsense, that will only be cost effective if you print say, 90% or more of your print jobs as full color graphics loaded pages. Even ONE WORD on a page (or a sincel character!) counts as a full page against your limit. NO NOT EVER "upgrade the firmware" or you will never be able to use old cartridges or non-hp cartridges ever again. Get a first set or regular HP 902s with an XL black cartridge and the three color ones, and see how you do with the little supplies monitor on the screen. Then you can decide on things

Does it have just one cartridge for color or three???

It comes with 4 colors by default. You can subscribe for free hp instant ink to Get 6 month free instant ink subscription with promo code jd9bw

When one ink cartridge runs out, can you still print in B&W? Or do you need to replace the cartridge before being able to print anything?

Yes, you need to make sure none of the color cartridges are empty in order to print B&W I have this printer, though I bought it at a local staples. I print only/mostly B&W and can reaffirm that you still need the smaller color cartridges to have ink to print B&W. I got the 2 year warranty and the paper jam debacle started literally 3 days after the warranty expired. The salesperson told me thats the lifespan of the printer and advised me to use warranty to get a replacement before the 2 years are up. I had NO problems at all for the first 2 years.
