What makes it a catfish rod?

It has plenty of backbone and a soft tip, catfish can be big, but sometimes are finicky. So the soft tip, and plenty of strength works out well! As far as my Missouri friend, I live in South Carolina, and hunt gators during season. This is my favorite pole and have caught several over 500 lbs?? I wanna catch some of your 30# cats that this pole can’t handle!

Is the 8’ an effective rod from shore for reservoirs?

Depending on your reel, 8 ft. Is more than adequate. I use this with an Ambassadeur reel and it is absolutely killer.

can this be used with a spinning reel?

They come in two versions. Casting and spinning. The spinning have larger guides for the reel to cast effectively. I have the casting version does well with 3 oz weight. Very sensitive rod

Some say one piece some say two piece which is it?

2 piece is good for travel...but 1 piece is much stronger and reliable to me...
