A really fine product.
A good product for sure. Quality craftsmanship and good engineering. The adjustable tension is beautiful. The rubber O-rings male a gray grip and thread catch. As for the half hitch barrel well that's over rated I think. The function works okay, but you can only use it on hook eyes smaller than the tip of the barrel and is just add easy to hand half hitch or use a who finish tool. So I don't recommend the extra expense of the tapered barrel.

Great product, very easy and comfortable to use
Great product, very easy and comfortable to use. Very easy to adjust thread tension. Maybe a bit spendy compared to other bobbins, but totally worth the extra coin!

One of the best tying bobbins
These are my favorite bobbins to date. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. I love the shape, feel and the adjustable tension is great. I’ll be buying more for certain.

Good bobbin. Who writes these questionnaires?
The questionnaire asks about sheerness and thickness. What are these qualities in relation to a bobbin? Who writes these questionnaires? This is my favorite bobbin. It has a good weight, the barrel has plenty of reach for large flies and it is easy to use. I will be purchasing more.

Very good bobbin for tying big flies
This is a very good bobbin for tying bigger flies for species other than trout and panfish. The long tube makes it much easier to make wraps on long hooks while clearing lots of other materials already on the hook. The only reason this doesn't get five stars is that the one I have tends to apply some form of discoloring residue to lighter colored threads. I think there is some corrosion or residue from manufacture on the inside of the tube. If you can spend the extra couple bucks, I would recommend getting the Cermag instead of this one. Otherwise the style of the Rite Bobbins make them the best bobbins on the market. I always struggled with proper tension with every bobbin I owned previously. It was always too loose or too tight - never just right. The design of the Rite Bobbins allow you to get it exactly right without removing the spool.

Perfect
I love this bobbin! I'm using the shorty which is better for tying small intricate flies but I tie big streamers too and it's great. It's fairly quick to change spools, the drag works flawlessly but one thing I love most is the short ceramic tube allows me to put just a mm of the thread into it and suck it through the other side everytime without fail. All other bobbins I've had would get stuck in the tube but not this one. Also the ceramic tube is smooth and doesn't frey the thread. I have dropped this bobbin onto my hardwood floor several times and the ceramic tube is still not damaged, nor is the entire bobbin. I love how it fits into my hand and the rubber grip is great. Also, others have said it doesn't spin well to flatten out the thread because it's a single prong instead of double.. I disagree, yes there is a tiny bit of wobble but I spin it counter clockwise and it perpetually keeps spinning at a fast rate. The price is good and this will be my go to bobbin should I ever need a replacement. You won't be disappointed...

"Rite" Tool
I bought this bobbin for tying very small flies that require minimal thread wraps without any bulk i.e. over wraps. I found the bobbin easy to load with standard thread and it gives me the ability to perfectly set the tension for control and to prevent breakage. I typically like tying patterns by the dozen so this bobbin is the "Rite" tool. It's also very comfortable to hold with no sharp edges!

Breaking thread
I purchased the Magnum bobbin for heavier duty streamer tying. First of all, let me say that I have other Rite Bobbins and they are simply great, from comfort to ease of use and adjustability. This particular one seems to have a slight burr inside the tip, because it causes my thread to break almost instantly when I begin winding. I'm using fairly heavy duty stuff (Orvis Saltwater/Bass (G)) that I can't break no matter how tightly I pull with my ceramic Rite Bobbins, and even with virtually no winding tension this one cuts it pretty quickly. Seems like I have a faulty model, but I am a big fan of the durability and reach the magnum provides. If not for the burr, it would be the ideal tool for big streamers. Will try again and hope for a burr-less bobbin!
