How much weight will these baskets hold?

I bought this for my son and the one thing I noticed is that it seemed like the baskets are not as strong as the one that I have had for years that holds a good 12-15 lbs. I put potatoes in the bottom and onions in the middle and fruit in the top. Concerning the new one I would say it would be safe at about 8lbs
