For the money, astonishing. Not sure how they do it for the price!
If you are looking for a portable CD player, this is the one you need. Let me explain why. I have purchased this product myself, having been asked to review the portable CD player by Oakcastle. I will be perfectly honest with my review and not let their request sway my judgement. I will be perfectly honest, when asked to review this product, a portable CD player, my first thought was why; why has this product been brought out? After all, aren’t we all using streaming services these days? Then I thought of the sheer volume of CD’s I own that will never be found on a streaming service, such as ‘fan club’ CD’s, CD’s by small artists with local appeal, and the like. Firstly, I had limited expectations. After all, it’s £26.95, (at the time of writing), but at the time I purchased it there was a further 25% discount. Cheap and cheerful, or so I thought. First impressions, upon opening the packaging, was how incredibly well packed it was. I have received items costing ten times as much not so well packaged. For the price you get the portable CD player, (obviously!) a set of headphones, a 3.5mm jack lead to plug into a portable speaker, and a remote for the headphones to allow skipping tracks, pausing and so on without having to use the small buttons on the unit itself. Secondly, this device has multiple ways of powering it. You can use two AA batteries, (a set are supplied), you can use the supplied USB lead plugged into a USB adapter in a wall socket, into a power pack, or plugged into the USB port of a laptop or PC. It can also be used as car CD player, most cars have a USB port for power these days, but don’t have a CD player! Moving onto the sound quality; I tried the supplied headphones first. I have to say, I was surprised. It may not be Bang and Olufsen quality, but it is a tiny fraction of the price. The sound was good, and not at all tinny, as I had expected. I was listening to a solo guitarist, (video attached) and the sound was clear and crisp. I added the bass boost, and although I could tell the difference, for this music it really wasn’t required. I then tried the CD player with a set of my own Sennheiser wired headphones, and then this machine came into its own. With a pair of good quality headphones, the sound had a warmth, and richness that belies the price tag. I have tried a wide range of music with the CD player, from rock, rock and roll, singer/songwriter, solo guitar, pop, and even classical. All the different genres sounded excellent; the classical music, when paired to a portable speaker, had a clarity which was completely beyond my expectations. The portable CD player can also be used in a variety of modes, you can play tracks randomly, repeat a track, repeat the CD, and even intro mode, which plays the first ten seconds of each track to help find a particular song you may wish to listen to. I have used it whilst walking round the house and garden; there were no issues at all. A sliding hold button stops the other buttons being caught accidentally whilst the unit is in a bag or a pocket. Oakcastle are a company that clearly take a pride in their products. And so they should; I cannot recommend this highly enough. Anyone looking for a portable CD player for use in a car, caravan, whilst walking etc will not be disappointed. The sound quality is excellent, particularly when paired with a good quality speaker or headphones. It has every feature you will look for, and more besides. If you register the product with Oakcastle they will extend the warranty to three years. Buy it – you can’t go wrong.

Compact, elegant CD Player with good sound quality
I purchased this Portable CD Player to replace a Sony CD Walkman D-NE240 that had finally given up the ghost. I was pleased to note, the product was supplied in a cardboard box, rather than a plastic shell, and that the CD Player itself was housed inside within a sponge moulding to protect it from knocks when in transit. The accessories were contained beside it in a separate cardboard box. My first impressions of the CD player itself were that it appeared to be a little flimsier than the, somewhat chunkier, Sony model but when subsequently considering it in its own light, rather than by comparison, I was satisfied that it was perfectly adequate to the job. The fact that it is manufactured by Majority and comes with a three year warranty (registration required) also inspired confidence. The Oakcastle player is more compact and (in my view) has a more elegant design than the Sony. With regard to functionality, all the controls were responsive and operated as they should. When played through my Sennheiser headphones (I never use the ear buds supplied with portable audio equipment) I found that the unit had more than enough volume and provided a pleasant clear tone, particularly with the base boost on. I have not tried playing it through an external sound system as that is not what I bought it for. The display and control buttons are on the side of the unit, rather than on the top, and are a little small but nevertheless functional. To make things a little easier, however, an in-line control is also supplied for the headset which provides access to the Play/Pause, Stop, Next/FFD, and Previous/RWD functions. The player has a 120 second anti-shock buffer is supplied with two AA batteries, which are stated to provide 7 hours of play time. You can, however, also use rechargeable AA cells if you so wish. Overall, I am very happy with this CD Player. It looks good, sounds good and provides a very satisfactory replacement for my previous model.

Good quality player for price
The CD player as a personal player with headphones appeared to be very good but I purchased this player to connect into my car speakers, however my car does not have a 3.5mm jack socket which is required

Almost perfect portable CD player
I’ve been looking for a good portable CD player for years, and tried a few different options that all seem to have audible background hiss – something that drives me mad. This one doesn't! It's compact enough to fit in my hoodie pocket and the controls along the front of the device are surprisingly resilient to accidental pressing. The anti-shock works really well and there's no skipping of tracks even when you're moving around. I've listened to mulitple albumbs on one set of AA batteries, so it's more power efficient than my old portable player! Highlights: - No “background hiss” - Takes standard AA batteries, none of this non-replaceable lithium ion rubbish - Anti-shock - USB power cable My only negative point is that it there is no “line out” option, like classic CD players used to have to by-pass the internal amp and allow connection to external devices with better audio quality. We need more CD players like this one - user replacable batteries, no audio hiss, good amplification for even audiophile headphones.

AMAZING QUALITY
I've grown up with quality hi-fi (I'm 78) but needed an inexpensive portable CD player. I read through the reviews on Amazon and finally settled this Oakcastle CD-10 - made in Cambridge, UK. I'm very impressed with the quality. For its size, the sound quality is very good and the volume, which reviewers of other portable CD players - including the expensive ones - complain is very low, cannot be said of this one! The earphones are prefectly adequate and handle both treble and bass acceptably. I'm amazed at the features it offers and the instruction book which accompanies is clear, precises and easy to follow. I have ordered a small leather bag to safely carry it in. The player measures 17cm (allowing for the earphone jack when plugged in) x 17cm x 2.5cm. Courtesy of Amazon PRIME, the player arrived the day after ordering and was very well packed. I'm VERY pleased with this purchase.

Misleading Product Photo
The sound quality is decent.Easy to use and good accessories but the photo led me to believe the display was blue backlit. Its not and is impossible to read without shining a torch on it! The manufacturer explained that they removed the backlight to increase battery life and that they coloured it blue in the photo to show up the characters in the display!! Which backs up my point really. Shame because its otherwise a good product for price

Unglaublich gut!

Just as good as…You have to use the adapter to get the lcd backlight!
Update #3 I’m guessing it’s just like the early 90s cd players with backlight, you have to use an Ac adapter for that effect . I haven’t tried it, but I’m pretty sure that’s what makes it work. Update: Cd player is still going strong, and is awesome. I did tinkering around with other headphones, ear pads ect; I found out the Panasonic RP-ht21 headphones combined with Yaxi ear pads, really brings out a warm, balanced soundstage. As stated before, with this setup it can stand against the Fiio dm13 cd player, and I can get 6 of these cd players for the price of one the Dm13…. I will say these go perfect with the “ ARTTI R3 earbuds”. The sound quality of this portable cd player with them is perfect clarity! Tho, I haven’t used the included earbuds, so I can’t speak on how they sound. But other than that, this was well worth it. It’s almost right up there with my Fiios Dm13 portable cd player to be honest. You can’t go wrong with this cd player!
