Excellent upgrade
Easy five stars for this LED upgrade of my 30+ year-old rechargeable Mag. 60 second installation, and the beam is blinding--three times brighter than the day I bought the light. The beam width is no longer adjustable, but it is a worthwhile tradeoff to get this light back in working order.

Really, really bright.
So bright you can't look directly at it. My old halogen Mag lite lives on. I miss the twist to focus ability of the old Mag. I'll make that sacrifice to keep it running,

Amazing retrofit
I had two older incandescent rechargeable Maglites and was about to trash them for newer LED flashlights when I found this kit. Thank goodness, this drops right in and it's like a new flashlight. This thing is really bright at least 20 times and the beam goes about 250 yards plus now where the old one hardly went two hundred feet. Money well spent.

Bright but….
I had an older generation LED upgrade in my magcharger flashlight that was just ok. I decided to give this upgrade a try to get a brighter beam with a longer throw. The kit was trickier to install compared with my old one which had the pins exposed to line up in the socket. This kit has a shroud around the pins with machined cutouts to engage the focusing cams in the flashlight head. The pins have to be lined up perfectly for the bulb to plug in or an irreparable damage to the bulb could occur. I installed the kit after a few attempts and tried it in the field at night. The beam offers a tight, super white focus. I guess it’s good for search and rescue but I would prefer a warmer light with a little more flood around the center. I would’ve kept the bulb it weren’t for the annoying dark ring around the focused center. I reached out to the seller and they provided me with a film to filter out the dark ring. The film turned the flashlight into a floodlight without a pronounced center beam at the expense of throw distance. I never got an explicit answer from the seller if I had a bad bulb or they were all afflicted with the same problem. I would’ve gladly tried a different one but not having confidence if another one would be any better, I opted to return it for a refund.

Not quite 800 lumens but it is plenty enough
I don’t get why some people here expect miracles from this upgrade and then complain about it, but trust me, there is no need to chase candelas and lumens. This upgrade will be more than enough for 99.9% of situations. If you have an old incandescent mag charger laying around this is a worthy upgrade. It is well made and just works. You won’t get 800 lumens(minus 1 star) but something around 700~ which is still very bright. Plus your battery life triples.. My only other complaint is that you lose the focusing functionality with this upgrade.

Re-vamped a 40 year old flashlight
I own 3 MagChargers from the 1980's. I always considered them to be the best lights on the market, period. But then LED lights came along with their superior battery life, the convenience and compact nature of AA or AAA battery packs, and the old MagChargers got left in a drawer as the batteries got old and weak. Recently I bought a 5000 Lumen light from Costco, and it was just crazy bright. I secretly longed to get the old MagChargers back in service, something about the light sitting in the charger, always ready, just had an appeal. But having a basically disposable light that was brighter than the old Mag just made more practical sense. I'd been casually looking to see if anyone had a drop in LED for the MagCharger, and finally saw this unit and bought it. Holy smokes! Insanely bright! The dimmer picture is the 5,000 lumen Costco light, the brighter picture is my old MagCharger. You decide. Now, granted, the Costco light has a much wider spread, and the old MagCharger no longer has an adjustable beam. The Costco light probably is putting out more light into the world, but the tight focused beam of my old Mag is just silly and WAY brighter. I'm going to get new batteries and LED cartridges for my other MagChargers and look forward to putting them back into service!

Disappointed
I had high hopes for this conversion. By all appearances, this item seemed to be well made and suited for the purpose. I first read the instructions and watched the suggested video on installation. The instructions were follwed to the T but I was unable to get it to work. The flashlight it was being installed on was a 30 year old Mag Charger flashlight. I don't know if that has anything to do with it but it didn't even slightly work. Nothing. I contacted Amazon support which basically walked me through the same instructions I had already followed, as if I hadn't bothered to read them. I then made two attempts to contact the seller and waited in excess of the 48 hours which the Amazon "contact the seller" form suggested. No answer was received from them on either attempt. I was left with little choice but to return it for a refund.
