PRO-DR1P 1" Twist On Throat Compression Driver with 1" Phenolic Voice Coil 240 Watts 8-ohm - Set of 1 Tweeter

I picked up a set of cerwin Vega d9 speakers from Goodwill a couple years ago. Cabinets falling apart (literally) one Tweeter missing but the woofers were in excellent condition looked to been reconed with actual vega kits. Repaired the cabinets (major job), put 1/2 inch damping material on every side except the baffle, recaped the crossovers and bought a d9 tweeter on eBay. Great sound for (party speakers) but high frequency response sucked. Bad. So I bought a pair of the Eminence 1" screw on horn flares (perfect fit to replace the d9 tweeters), have tried a couple different sets of low cost high frequency drivers and still never been happy. So now I have purchased these DS 18 compression drivers. Receive them today and put them in today and OMG!!!! I now have all the crisp clear undistorted high frequency response that I could have ever hoped for. Had considered purchasing selenium drivers but they have gone way up in the price and I didn't want to spend that much money... These DS 18 compression drivers are kicking ass. I think they're probably real close to their 103 DB spec and I got all the sizzle that I could ask for. I'm sure the selenium d210 drivers would have done a great job, but I would have had to modify the internal bracing on the cabinets and spend damn near three times the money. I might add that I owned a pro audio company for 35 years. Concert sound production, custom installs, built hundreds and hundreds of speaker enclosures using JBL electric voice Gauss altec Lansing and Eminence drivers. So if you're looking for a economical highly efficient 1 in throat compression driver with very good high frequency response I think these would fit the bill. I don't see how you could go wrong especially for the little bit of money that you got to spend. I will be using these and some of my repair work in the future.

Perfect fit

Installed in a Harbinger V4115 15” Powered PA Speaker that had “No Treble” aka a “blown” 1” compression driver. This 1” driver fit perfect. I chose this one because I saw a review showing someone used it in a V4415 speaker. The body was a little smaller that the original driver but screwed on perfect. Sounded excellent for the 30 minutes that I tested it. Will update review once I get to run it for a full 6 hour event as my monitor. Used rubber bands to help twist it tight.

Plays clear not piercing to the ears

Just replaced the Twitter on a harbinger VARI V4415 PA speaker. Guitar center did not hold replacement parts and said they could not order it for me. Turn towards Amazon for a replacement. I’m hoping it works out given it five stars due to early delivery easy to install and it sounds a little bit louder than the original will probably be replacing the second Twitter and the second speaker as well. Wish me luck.

Bang for buck you can't go too wrong, not too hash when matched with a good crossover plenty of mid as well.

Home use! Much snappier than the Sammi SM 35T it replaces. A little eq tones it down. Fits perfectly on the (old) Altec horns and the terminal connections are so much better. Spring loaded, no soldering. NOTE: the capacitor/crossover is included!! So far so good.
