What a great find!!
I just got this camera a few days ago and I really love it! It has a lot of features that I didn't expect to find in a camera that is this price, and in my opinion, this is a bargain. I set my camera up in my home. Shipping was fast and setup was pretty simple - put the camera on the home wifi networks and download the free corresponding app. Plug the camera in to the wall and you're ready to start spying on your kids (or pets in my case - they get into a lot of mischief). I use this camera to watch my pets when I am gone either for just a few hours or for a week out of town - I use it daily. Since my pets are nocturnal, I was particularly concerned with how the picture quality would be in the dark. I have another camera made by a different company (that was far more expensive), and to my happy surprise, the picture quality on this Foscam camera is FAR better than on my original camera. I can see my pets SO much more clearly, and I can even tell who is who when watching them (something I could not do with my original camera that I was using). I also love that I am able to change the view of the camera remotely. If i want the camera to pan to the right, i just open the app and tap to the right, and the camera moves. Up, down, right, left, zoom, etc. That is a really nice feature to have in case you wonder (like me) did I close the door? Is it locked? is their water bowl full? Are the window shades down? What is that spot I see on the ceiling? It better not be a giant spider or I'm not coming home until hubs takes care of that! Etc. etc. etc. I can also have the camera continuously moving if I want to see the whole room scanned on a continuous basis. I really like this feature as well. You can take still shots, you can record video, you can talk and the camera plays what you said in real time, you can listen to the noises happening in the room, you can adjust for smoothness or definition of the image, you can rotate the image, and you can switch from day to night mode. I have it set to notify me if it detects motion in the room, and I have gotten several notifications. They are immediate and I really like that feature. I don't have to pay extra for it. It also stores the notifications so you don't miss any. I can see how this would be a really useful feature, especially for people who are trying to keep an eye on their house while they are gone or while they are watching the walking dead season finale and do not want to be bothered by anyone other than walkers and Negan. That jerk. I would only change one thing about the camera - I would make the cord that plugs in to the wall a little longer. The room I have it in has virtually no outlets (why do they make rooms like that?) so a longer cord would help overcome the annoyance that is my den. And the cord is not a huge bulky cord, so that is very nice. Also, if they could make it so that it automatically cleans everything that it sees, I wouldn't be opposed to that either. I think that upgrade will be at least a few years out. To summarize, I truly think that this camera is a great investment, and if I ever need more cameras (for more pet watching, maybe?), I will buy it again, and would certainly buy it over the other one I was using before. This is really a great value.

This is a real upgrade over my old FOSCAM cameras
I’ve been using Foscam cameras for years. When my kids were very young, I would keep them in their rooms as a monitor. Now I use them throughout my house as security cameras. They still work, but there are many limitations given their age – close to 10 years old in some cases. But they do, indeed, still work. With this mind, I reached out to Foscam support to see if there were some firmware upgrades now which might overcome some of the limitations like modern browser support and platform support other then Windows (eg, Mac). Because I was a long time customer and agreed to write this review, they provided me a free unit to test. So here it is. I will be comparing the current (Aug 2020) model, R2C 1080P to the older models I have, the FI8910W and FI8918W. The new model offers the following improvements: • Higher resolution (1080p v 480p) • No dependence on ActiveX controls • Full control from Windows and Mac using browser other than Internet Explorer • Control via mobile app • Ability to record without application running on PC • Improved interface for scheduling motion detection • Better color reproduction • Slightly smaller and more sleek I am using the new model to record on a schedule and using motion detection. Both work well. The ability to schedule is much improved in the browser app as you can just drag the mouse across a series of time blocks to activate. The old camera allowed you to active a full hour at a time, but if you wanted it on the half hour, you’d have to click to deselect. So, setting a schedule at 1230a means I activated 12a to 1a, but then Id have to click 7 days of blocks representing 1200a and 1215a. With the new camera, the mobile app just uses a slider to set the time, and the browser interface allows you to drag to deselect. Nice. I never used the email settings or the FTP settings on the old cameras. I tried setting up the FTP today on the old camera, and I never got it to work. With the new camera, I wasn’t going to use FTP or mail, either, but then I thought about this: why do I need an app running all the time to capture motion detection? The old models required Internet Explorer open to capture the video. Shouldn’t the camera just capture it and store it or send it somewhere? Well, in fact, the new one does. There’s no storage built into the camera that a user has access to, but it does have the ability to either use a micro SD Card or FTP. With the SD Card, the file is stored on the card. With FTP, it’s sent to an FTP server. Since I don’t have a spare Micro SD card laying around, I decided to use the FTP server. Windows 10 has an FTP server built in, but it’s not turned on by default. There are numerous places you can find on how to setup the FTP server. Once you have it setup such that you can access from another computer on your local network, you just use the same parameters for the camera. Put in the IP address (or hostname), the user name and password, and you’re good to go. You don’ t NEED to buy cloud service if you can setup the FTP server. If you can’t, then perhaps you should look into buying the cloud service to store your images and videos. In the end, it’s nice to know I can turn on the camera and have it FTP over my files to my PC (which is on all the time) without having to keep an app running on my PC. You may think I’m splitting hairs since leaving my PC on 24x7 with an FTP server is the same thing, and perhaps I am. But if you have storage connected to and an FTP server running on your router, which stays on all the time, you won’t need your PC left on 24x7. I already leave my PC on 24x7 so it’s a no brainer for me. I was wondering how well the IR light would work since the old camera had a ring of IR lights around the camera, and I can’t see any on the new one. The new camera has a better picture, of course, and the IR lights are not as obvious, but they’re there. Picture quality at night is very good. The color reproduction is clearer and more accurate on the new camera. The video produced is really nice and not as grainy as the old ones. It will never replace your DSLR for video quality, but in terms of security it works. I can use Chrome now to access any feature I want. The old cameras required I use Internet Explorer utilizing ActiveX if I wanted to record videos or use voice function. ActiveX is 25 year old technology full of security risks, so it’s nice to see I don’t need it any more. ActiveX only runs on Windows, so Mac was out. Now it’s not. Yay! There are lots of feature I’m sure I’m missing, but this covers what’s important to me. I have the old cameras which do what I know, and now I have the new one which has improved on the old ones in many ways. If it lasts as long as the other ones, this is going to be an excellent camera!

Decent camera - we like that it has FTP.
The camera so far is working well. It would be nice if it had color night vision, but the clarity is good. The ability to do FTP of files to our remote server is a huge plus, and most indoor wifi cameras don't have this feature. It is one of the main reasons we bought the camera. It's also nice that it can use the 5Ghz band in addition to the 2.4. Set up was pretty easy - we had to do an override by using the VMS computer application to use 'admin' as a user name because the phone app won't allow it. Also it is strange they only allow 12 characters for a password, which is incredibly short. All in all it is working well for us so far.

I own many Foscam cameras. I have to say that this camera tops all the others I have so far.. The IR is very clear and wirfi I had a problem with my cam's wifi connectivity so I opened a suport ticket @foscam.com. The support was very helpful- many thanks Yiko Deng who found out that the camera was the problem on the start and offered a replacement right away.

I first had the HD model of the same camera and liked it for the ability to upload to a custom FTP, taking storage into personal cloud. Got 4K version, and some things were buggy. Nevermind the fact that USB-C unplugs if you wiggle it a little. Clearly a bad connection somewhere. When initialized, the camera sometimes does not return to the home position. It'll be off vertically, often significantly. Software could take a lesson from Blink cameras, because the simplest functions like arming and disarming (putting to sleep mode) should be 2 clicks away. There should be ability to review internal footage without having to turn the camera on. In top of physical quality and features, the camera is top notch, but the software must've been written by monkeys.

Needed another Foscam for my basement. Works perfectly

Very little control over the picture. There are no brightness/contrast or color control. Don't waste your money.
