Exactly what you expect.
You can't really expect the circle pad pro for the 3ds xl to be small. And it isn't. It's big. How big? Big enough to make it uncomfortable to put in my bag, impossible to slip in my pocket. But you know that going in. However, for its big size, it gets the job done, and it does it comfortably. Comparing it to the regular 3ds, the 3ds xl is alot bigger, and for my hands, a lot more comfortable to hold. Add a circle pad pro to that equation and it becomes all the easier to hold. Dont know about it being comfortable for kids though. I bought the version that had japanese print on the box, and was a little worried that it wouldnt work with my american bought 3ds. However it worked perfectly. Ive had the circle pad pro for about two months now, and havent gone tru the first battery yet (it only uses one), but i havent done any intensive gaming on it, so far around maybe 20 hours. Ive been using it for kingdom hearts 3d, and it really makes the game camera alot easier to control. I also own Resident Evil Revelations, but havent really given it much of a go with the circle pad pro yet. The only downside is that, on account of its design, it completely blocks off access to your stylus. So i end up doing a lot of finger mashing on the touch screen, but so far it hasnt been inconvenient at all. You cant shut off wireless either, not without removing the 3ds first. I think the circle pad pro communicates with the 3ds thru infrared, so no cables are necessary. It adds an extra circle pad (duh), and what came as a surprise -two new buttons. Overall it has 3 buttons, an R button because it blocks off the 3ds's R button; but it also has two triggers ZL and ZR With these additions, i have no complaints about the circle pad pro, just a "shame on you" to nintendo for not designing the 3ds xl with all these things already built in.

This season's "must-have" 3DS XL/LL accessory!
When I upgraded to the 3DS XL, the original Circle Pad Pro became a stylish paperweight in my office. Enter the Circle Pad Pro 3DS XL/LL! This updated version of the CPP works fantastically! It has the same function as the orginal CPP: adding a second analog pad, and two shoulder buttons. The LZ button sits just behind the 3DS XLs L button and the RZ sits behind the CPPs R button (it is used instead of the 3DS R button, which would be out of reach with the extra length of the CPP). The point of all this is to make games like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil: Revelations, and Metal Gear Solid 3D play much more like their console brethren. Though this is a Japanese product, it work perfectly with my North American 3DS XL. It does make the console bigger, but I found it comfortable to hold, even during marathon Monster Hunts. If you found that the original 3DS was too small, and the 3DS XL fit in your hands better, you will probably not mind the extra bulk. CPP XL has a curved back which makes it much more comfortable to grip. You can plug in the power cord, adjust the volume, and put in headphones without removing the CPP XL. However you do have to take the 3DS out to change game cards or access the stylus. Taking the system out is a breeze anyway. There are rubber bumpers that keep it secure without bolts or latches of any kind (though I wouldn't suggest holding upside down). You just push the system in and roll! If you are a big Monster Hunter fan and plan on putting some serious time into MH3U...get this now!

Worth the money for the quality of games that support it.
As stated in previous reviews, there are only a few games that support the use of the CPP. However, the games that do support it are excellent. Resident Evil: Revelations and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate make great use of the pad and are tons of fun to play. They also have high replay value making the CPP worth the purchase for these two games alone. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a great port of the original, and worth buying as well, but doesn't have much replay value. This Japanese import of the CPP works perfectly on the US 3DS XL, is well built and takes a lot of stress off of your hands while playing. I find myself keeping it connected even while playing non CPP supported games because it's so comfortable. Battery life is outstanding, with only one AAA battery required, mainly because the unit goes into standby mode after five minutes of non use. Highly recommend the CPP especially since the import is only $20. You won't regret it.

Fantastic for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
This is the larger brother of the Circle Pad Pro for 3DS, and fits the 3DS XL. This works with any region-locked 3DS XL, and is not region-limited. The second analog stick is wonderful for certain games that support it, such as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. However, this device is not supported at all by most games, which means its buttons are simply disabled. You cannot use the Circle Pad Pro's left and right bumpers as replacements for the 3DS XL's left and right bumpers if the game you are playing does not explicitly support the Circle Pad Pro. This means for the vast majority of games, if you are using this accessory, you will have to arch your right hand to reach the 3DS XL's right bumper. This is not really an issue if you have large hands, and is actually quite comfortable, but is a big issue if your hands are small. This also makes a very comfortable grip for larger hands. I highly recommend this product if you have large hands or are looking for enhanced controls for specific games.

Works exactly as advertised.
I bought this because of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I tried to play the game without it and I just could not stand the camera controls using the touch screen. It's the same reason I don't like some mobile phone games that use similar control methods. It's the lack of a tactile feel to the control scheme of touch-based movement/camera controls that I just can't get used to. The Circle Pad Pro XL was exactly what I needed. MH3U is like a totally different experience for me now. And I might be tempted to pick up some other titles that take advantage of the accessory now that I have it. RE:R, MGS, etc. As a bonus, the unit is very comfortable to hold with the CPP attached, even with games that don't support the extra features. The extra bulk it adds to the 3DS XL makes the unit much more comfortable to hold especially during long gaming sessions. Before, without it, my pinky fingers would always start to cramp up because they had nothing to really hold on to or rest on. The CPP makes it feel more like a regular game controller. Haven't had cramped fingers since. Now the downsides. When the CPP is attached, you lose access to a few of the 3DS features. You can no longer access the stylus storage, the wi-fi switch, or the game card port. In order to access any of these you first need to detach the CPP. Which is very easy to do, but would rather not have to. Overall, this is a product that does exactly what it says it will do. And has a bonus of being very comfortable to use with or without games that support it. Pros: Responsive, Comfortable Cons: Blocks access to some 3DS features while attached

Must have accessory!
I ordered this after picking up Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and it enhances the controls tenfold. It's also useful for other titles (Kid Icarus to name another). The CPP XL is extremely comfortable for my medium-sized hands, eliminating any cramping from long play sessions. The weight makes the unit feel cheap and light, but you'll notice the fine build quality with the actual buttons and how crisp they feel. It includes 1x AAA battery so you're all set (don't even worry about the instructions if you can't understand Japanese - the illustrations are really clear). My chief complaints with the design would be the inability to remove a cartridge or the stylus with the CPP unit attached. Maybe they couldn't get away with having a cartridge opening available (because of the IR transmitter and the clips that hold the 3DS XL onto the CPP), but incorporating a small hole for the stylus underneath the unit would've been nice. Other than those only two issues, this accessory is a MUST HAVE.

Perfect
I wanted this for Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D, and since the nintendo shop discontinued this item for the US shop I decided to give this a shot. It works no problem with the 3DS XL, and I have the Zelda edition one. Just remember that you have to actually go into the game settings to enable the circle pad pro for it to work. I haven't had a problem with the battery dieing with extended play times. It's easy to connect/disconnect to your system if you choose to do so, especially considering that cases that are big enough to fit with it on are limited at best. It feels comfortable and makes for a great grip for anyone who has issues with their 3DS XL feeling too small in their hands. I hope more games will utilize this accessory more in the future. It may be a little expensive for some people considering the limited number of games it supports, but it's been worth every penny to me. Couldn't be happier.

Good addition to the 3DS XL, but only for a handful of games so far.
I purchased the Japanese import of the circle pad pro XL because I wanted to get the most out of all of my Nintendo 3DS games (and didn't feel like waiting for US release). Note that the circle pad pro LL/XL fits the American XL DS. If you don't own an XL you will need the this one . It is pretty easy to use. It takes a single AAA battery (which it comes with), and the battery seems to last a long time. You can unscrew the battery compartment with a key or a coin if it needs replacing. The 3DS XL snaps into place easily. The second circle pad is as smooth and comfortable as the first. Most of the games that support it seem to come with calibration routines in case it doesn't seem to be working correctly (I haven't had a problem yet). The right side includes additional right trigger buttons since you can no longer reach the right buttons, and adds a second set of triggers to both sides. I find the ergonomics of the device to be quite good. It fits very comfortable in my hands, and I'll sometimes leave it on when I'm not playing compatible games. There are a few things that are worth noting before you purchase: 1. Do your research. This only works for a few games, and does different things depending on the game. For instance, with Kid Icarus: Uprising it _only_ makes the game more accessible for lefties. (I hoped that it would eliminate the need for the stylus, which it does not do). However for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (the 3DS version) it makes gameplay a lot better by eliminating the need for a virtual D-pad. It also makes underwater fighting a lot easier. 2. The CPP doesn't seem to be hot-swappable. As far as I've been able to tell you have to start up the game with the CPP. If you close your DS to put it to sleep it will sometimes complain about losing the connection (it connects with the IR port, not a hard connection). I've found if you use the CPP buttons as soon as you wake the device it will usually find it. This means that you may have to restart your game if your DS goes to sleep and doesn't recognize the CPP or if you need to take it off and put it back on (see #3). 3. I find it quite surprising that the unit completely blocks the stylus and doesn't provide an alternate stylus. This seems like a poor design choice. The CPP has enough girth that I suspect there is room for another stylus port in the device, but it doesn't provide one. If Nintendo happens to be listening this would be clear way to improve the device. If it included a second stylus port I would give at least four stars, but this omission seriously detracts from the design/playability. Related to point 1 I also wish that more game designers (Nintendo included) would have focused on making the games enhanced or at least compatible with the CPP.

Me encanta

Works Well...
Bought this in preparation for Monster Hunter Generations, and just used it in Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. Makes a world of difference in the games, and makes the system a joy to use. A single AAA battery was included, but you'd need a screwdriver or a coin to drop it into the slot. List of Games that Work with the Circle Pad Pro XL: - Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance - Monster Hunter 3U/4U/Generations/Cross (any Monster Hunter game) - Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask - Resident Evil Revelations - Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D

Nessun difetto

Package is damaged and item has been used before
This is definitely used and package has been opened, the wraps within are wild open as well. I can even see signs of damage on the controller when the plastic turned white.
