Weather Guard for Squirrel Buster Plus Bird Feeder (FEEDER NOT INCLUDED)

The other day I watched a squirrel try to get past it to get at the seed. That squirrel couldn’t get a grip anywhere and it slid off to the ground. He did it again and the same thing happened. So, it not only keeps the seed dry in the rain but also deters squirrels.

I see some 1-star reviews complaining that the weather guard sits too close to the feeder port holes, possibly frightening the birds away. I had no such issue. Minutes after installing the weather guard and stepping away from the feeder, the birds returned and used it just as before. The weather guard comes with a spacer that keeps it from being too close to the port holes. Maybe those reviewers didn’t notice the spacer, chose not to use it, or didn’t receive it. Other complaints mention squirrels hanging from the weather guard to access the feeder ports. The only way that could happen is if squirrels can reach the top of the feeder—either by jumping onto it or climbing up the pole. My Squirrel Buster Plus is positioned away from any trees or bushes. It sits atop a pole (you’ll need the Brome pole adapter). I also use a Brome seed catcher tray and a Woodlink Squirrel Baffle. There’s no way anything that can’t fly could climb the pole or reach the top of the feeder. As for the weather guard itself, I’ve already had some heavy rains, and it seems to be doing its job. It keeps the seed dry and prevents clogging in the feeder ports. I’ll admit—I’m a Brome fan. Their products may seem expensive, but what you’re paying for is outstanding customer service. They truly stand behind their products. After three years of using the Squirrel Buster Plus, they replaced a cracked feeder tube at no cost to me—not even shipping.

Brome products are the best. I've been using them for 20 years and found them to be the highest quality, backed by excellent customer support.

A little expensive for no more than it is but it it does look really nice on bird feeder and no squirrels so far. It helps to keep birds out of rain and seed dryer. I have purchased two feeders and two guards.

This simple but very effective device is a welcome addition to our squirrel proof bird feeder offering protection from wind and rain while small birds feed. The 2 piece design only fits a particular feeder, so make sure yours is appropriate. Perhaps best of all, it is easy to install while preventing rainwater intrusion to the seed portals, reducing if not eliminating seed loss due to rot.

Good fit, shelters birds as well as helps defend against blown in rains getting to seed. I will add that the grommet in cover over time becomes brittle and allows rain in; cover needs to be replaced .

I got my Brome Squirrel Buster Plus and this at the same time, so have only ever used them together. The weather guard works great. About a day after I got it and set up the feeders, we had torrential rains, marble-sized hail, many homes flooded, etc. The seed in the feeder stayed completely dry! I was concerned that cardinals would find the weather guard too low, as some have commented. However, I think the weather guard has now fixed the problem. My guard came with a sort of 3" extension that raises it up high enough that cardinals can feed under it. For some reason, the local females will feed from this feeder and have no problem with the weather guard. The males instead fly to the ground and eat from there. I've only had this about 10 days, so am hoping the males eventually feed under this too. There appears to be plenty of head-room from what I saw with the female cardinals. The product appears to be very sturdy, just like the feeder itself. Shipping was also very fast.

I hate to have to do this, but, I have to leave an honest review. Let me just say as a preface, that I absolutely love all the Squirrel Buster products, and have been using them for years. The reason for the 3 stars here is, this weather guard allows the squirrels to raid the feeder. I also have a clear 16" dome just above the feeder also. The squirrels leap to the weather guard, and use it for ballast and grip with their back feet, while hanging down and feeding unobstructed from a port hole. (not enough weight to close the feeder) I am waiting to make a video as soon as the squirrels cooperate, and I'll be back to post it. The size of the weather guard is great for keeping the rain out. Squirrels are particularly smart adversaries, and very nimble creatures. It's been very rare in my life to see any device that is 100% squirrel proof.

Just added this to my Sqirrel buster plus seed feeder and very easy to install with the in instructions.Much easier than I thought.One tip: Loosen the screw (wing nut) at the bottom of the feeder and take that part off as well .You can easily see which two parts you need to press to get the seed tube off! I am impressed - hopefully the birds are getting shelter from snow and rain.

Wenn man diese wahrlich nicht billige Futtersäule hat, sollte man sich diesen Schutz auch noch zulegen. Bei mir schimmelte das Futter immer mal wieder, weil bei Wind und Regen eben doch Nässe durch die Öffnungen gelangte. Das passiert jetzt nicht mehr. Spart Futter und Nerven, da die Säuberung nicht ganz einfach ist.

This is a great way to help the rain/snow from getting into the feed holes. I buy expensive bird seed and appreciate the extra protection. I am sure the birds also like that they are shielded somewhat from our weather systems!

Easy add-on to my Squirrel Buster Plus feeder, provides good shelter from rain & snow! The regular price is very expensive, though. I wouldn’t have bought it if it weren’t on sale, especially considering the price of just the feeder itself.
