NRSV Audio Bible with the Apocrypha on MP3: Catholic Edition Review: Non-annoying voice, good pace - Non-annoying voice, good pace. Easy to listen to for long periods. NRSV is a good translation. Ancient and first century writing was always read out loud, not silently to oneself (everybody was a lip-reader then!), so hearing the Word spoken aloud is a way to share the experience of the original listeners. Review: An Eternally Positive Difference - It is a wonderful gift to have and listen to this audio Bible! And this Bible is whole. It contains the Deuterocanonical books (not to be confused with the gnostic gospels,). I do wish it came dramatized, as are some of the other Bibles out there narrated by Stephen Johnston. I would like to save anyone reading this review some of the unnecessary difficulties I experienced by sharing what I have found helpful for Bible study. Always say a prayer before Bible reading or listening to the Bible. Also keep in mind, most of us are not hearing or reading the Bible in Its original language. Through the centuries, the meaning of some of the words have changed. Some research into the customs of the day from the Biblical times helps gain a richer and more meaningful understanding. I have also found it extremely helpful to have a copy of "The Catechism of the Catholic Church" close at hand. And there are other helpful resources when seeking answers to questions that manifest during Bible study. The “Catholic Answers” website, EWTN (TV, Radio, and online) and Formed.org.

I had been looking for a true Catholic version of the Bible. There are more exciting versions of the Bible, especially from those using the King James version, but this version was not supposed to be a dramatic reading. It is straightforward and very easy listening. This is perfect for those in the lector ministry or any student in religious class. I listen to this at work when I design buildings. It keeps me focused and grounded.

The Reader is terrific..
The Reader is terrific.... reads with expression, but so much as to get in the way of the text. So glad to have found a version without music and without drama AND which includes the books which my church lists as The Apocrypha (which are included by the Roman Church in their regular canon.) Appreciate that the cd segments are synchronized with the chapters of the books of the Bible. So very glad I bought this.

Excellent recordings, flimsy carrying case.
I like the narration very much. It is a very pleasing voice and easy to listen to. I don't have any problems with the actual recordings but I was very disappointed in the travel case they were packed in. The basic case is nice and very neat but the internal sleeves are not very good quality (as stated it is a high quality case). They are very thin and the whole set of sleeves are very thin and flimsy. The first set of 24 disks is barely sown on and is hanging by a thread. Almost feel out when I first opened it. The remaining sleeves are well attached. I had to purchase a new holding case for these disks. That is my only complaint. Would have received 5 stars if the case wasn't so flimsy. I am enjoying the disks themselves. It is difficult to find the complete Bible in disk form. Most are only the New Testament. I am very glad to have found this product.

The CD's are approved by the Catholic Church
Happy happy happy: Three times I tried to order this wonderful product from three other dealers. At one point my card got hacked. The forth try was to order from this dealer which was successful. I was not going to give up. This recording of the New and Old Testament is Golden. CC

Good Vocals, CDs don't work in CD/MP3 Player
I received my copy of the NRSV Catholic Edition MP3 Audio last week. Let's start with the positive aspects. The Pros: - The package came with one DVD that had the 128 kbps MP3s and four "CDs" with the 64 kbps MP3s. You can use a DVD player, a PC or Mac with a DVD reader, or even a Playstation 3 to listen to the MP3s. - The vocals themselves were good, just straightforward Scripture reading without drama or music. - The DVD version came with a one-year reading plan (just find the right PDF, open it, and scroll down). In just 15 minutes per day, you listen to two chapters from two OT books, and then either a chapter from the NT, or some Psalms, or a Proverb. The plan takes 52 weeks to complete. The Cons: - I received a scratched, used copy instead of a new copy. - The case arrived busted, but packaging was intact. - The “CDs” don’t seem to be in CD format at all, they look like DVD format! As such, they don’t work in my car’s CD/MP3 player, or my Sony CD/MP3 Walkman. I had to return this product, as my intent was to use the "CDs" in my car, but since none of the "CDs" aren’t in CD format at all, then there wasn’t much reason for me to keep the product or get a replacement.

Fantastic. Exactly what I wanted
Fantastic. Exactly what I wanted. It would not read in my car where other MP3CD work just fine. I had to transfer the data to my computer first. Then make a copy on my own CD-R. No big deal. The most important part is the reader. Not too fast, and not too deep or dramatic. Voice only too. Just what I wanted.

Very good narration and easy to listen to. I must say that since I have started listening to it, the Holy Spirit has really propelled me in my faith. I also have Our Lady to thank very much as well, as She was the one who guided me to this audio book in the first place. Where would I be without such a wonderful Mother?

I was looking for a modern audio Catholic Bible having Vatican Approval. Sadly, the ones available were only New Testament(Truth and Life, NABRE), while Douay Rheims is archaic. This has Audio CDs as well as a DVD which can be used on Windows PC to transfer to your hard drive and then save it to Google Drive cloud storage so that you don't need the Disk often. I had to borrow a Windows machine to do this since MAC doesn't have Disk drive. One complaint, not with the content, but the format. Who uses CDs/DVDs this day? This amazing version should be available on Amazon as a digital download! Every Catholic should have this product since 'Faith comes through hearing'!

Great and rare product, very well read nice clear, clean crisp English and what a revelation the apocrahpa is. The entire Christian church needs to have a moratorium to reconsider the return of the apocrapha to the Holy Bible. But I am afraid deep with the so-called church its self certain person's and parties have little interest in Biblical true coming to public scrutiny. God help us all!

This is my first Audio Bible purchase. I have been listening to it daily while driving to/from work ever since I received it. I have to say that I am more than satisfied! The narrator has a very soothing voice, with a little drama here and there, It brings the New Testament alive! Not only that has it help me to get a better understanding of the bible, it has been a great tool in delivering God's messages to my little kids (while driving them to school). I believe it has a profound effect on their belief in God. What a blessing to have this valuable education tool! Highly recommended.
