LaCie Copilot 2000 GB Portable External Hard Drive and Backup On Set Solution (BOSS)

Vorab : Mir gehen diese ganzen "Vine Kundenrezension eines eines kostenfreien Produktes" inzwischen mächtig auf den Keks. Von den heute (Stand 11.01.2019) vorhandenen 15 Bewertungen sind insgesamt 11 Bewertungen von Leuten, die das Gerät kostenfrei erhalten haben. Schon komisch, dass alle diese Bewertungen das Gerät als super und toll darstellen. Aber offenbar haben sich diese Menschen gar nicht richtig mit dem Gerät auseinander gesetzt. Denn die Festplatte soll lt. Hersteller dazu dienen, aufgenommene Fotos und Videos ohne PC von einer SD-Karte auf die Festplatte zu sichern. Entweder per Copy-Button, oder per App auf einem Tablet / Smartphone.Eine Sicherung bedeutet, dass Original und Kopie identisch sind, und zwar zu 100%.Wenn sich also die Ersteller der ganzen "Vine Kundenrezensionen" das vor Augen geführt hätten, wäre sicherlich Folgendes aufgefallen:1.) Beim Kopieren einer SD-Karte mittels der Copy-Funktion auf die HD (nicht mit der App "Copilot Boss") wird das ursprüngliche Dateidatum aller Dateien zwar beibehalten, die ursprüngliche Datei-Uhrzeit aber um eine Stunde vorgestellt. Bedeutet: Das Foto / Video wurde am 11.01.2019 um 19:16 Uhr aufgenommen, die kopierte Datei hat auch das Dateidatum vom 11.01.2019, aber eine Uhrzeit von 20:16 Uhr, also eine Stunde später (siehe Bild 1). Somit sind Original und Kopie nicht identisch, und da es sich um eine Sicherung handeln soll ist das ein absolutes NoGo. Ich vermute, dass sich die Uhrzeit um 2 Stunden nach vorne verschiebt, wenn wir die Uhren wieder auf Sommerzeit umstellen.Gerade bei Fotos und Videos, die gerne nach Aufnahmedatum / Uhrzeit chronologisch sortiert werden, darf das nicht sein. Zwar kann man für die Fotos die genaue Aufnahme-Uhrzeit noch aus den EXIF-Daten der Datei entnehmen, bei Videos geht das aber nicht, da keine EXIF-Daten mit Original Aufnahme-Uhrzeit vorhanden sind.2.) Beim Kopieren von Daten von der SD-Karte auf die HD mittels der App "Copilot BOSS" wird das Dateidatum und die Dateiuhrzeit aller Dateien auf das Datum und die Uhrzeit geändert, an welchem man die Dateien auf die HD kopiert hat. Bedeutet : Foto aufgenommen am 24.12.2018 um 19:00 Uhr, mittels App am 11.01.2019 um 17:00 Uhr auf die HD kopiert, somit hat die kopierte Datei das Dateidatum und Uhrzeit vom 11.01.2019 um 17:00 Uhr. Daher lassen sich auch hier Videos nicht mehr chronologisch einsortieren.3.) Weiterhin wird bei jedem Sicherungsvorgang mittels der Copy-Taste an der HD immer wieder der gesamte Inhalt der SD-Karte auf die Festplatte kopiert. Also nicht nur die neuen Dateien, sondern auch die Daten, die sich bereits auf der HD befinden. Wenn ich mir vorstelle, ich würde im Urlaub viele 4K-Aufnahmen mit der GoPro machen, und diese dann täglich sichern, welche Unmengen an Daten würden dann im Laufe der Zeit doppelt und dreifach auf die HD gesichert werden, und wie lange dann der Sicherungsvorgang am Ende des Urlaubs dauert. Leider kann man dieses nicht in den Einstellungen für die App / HD verändern.Diese drei Kritikpunkte, die mir bereits in der ersten halben Stunde der Nutzung aufgefallen sind haben mich dazu veranlasst, von weiteren Tests abzusehen und das Gerät an Amazon zurückzusenden. Für mich ist es wichtig, dass ich eine wirklich 1 zu 1 Sicherung meiner Daten erhalte und mich darauf verlassen kann, dass nicht willkürlich Änderungen an den gesicherten Daten erfolgen. Für den Preis von rund EUR 350,-- muss das Gerät alle meine Anforderungen erfüllen, und das tut es leider nicht.....Schade, denn ich finde den Ansatz dieser Backuplösung wirklich genial und auch grundsätzlich schon gut umgesetzt. Auch ist die Verarbeitung der HD für einen "Außeneinsatz" super. Die App ist zwar von der Benutzerfreundlichkeit noch deutlich ausbaufähig, zudem reagiert diese teilweise sehr träge. Aber das alleine wäre für mich jetzt kein Rücksendegrund gewesen, wenn denn der Rest geklappt hätte.

I bought the Copilot in order to work with files on my 2018 iPad Pro whilst away shooting. Unfortunately the current build of the Copilot doesn't support USB-C with iOS devices. In order to be able to use it the drive needs to have a firmware update via a Lighting iOS device. I tried this on 3 different Lighting devices and not one of them was able to update the firmware. The App from iTunes store doesn't install properly and hangs (on all of the devices I tried it on). (I should point out I work in a technical job in broadcast television, so it's not a case of me being incompetent technically!)Unfortunately, I've not been able to use CoPilot for my shooting away and as such I have returned it to the vendor I bought it from for a refund.It's quite disappointing as I was hoping this would be a solution for me in the field as advertised but in my case it has failed to be a perform. I'm aware that it works for others but in my individual case it has failed to deliver. I have seen that others have similar issues as well. Hopefully these issues will be ironed out but I'm not prepared to pay the asking price to wait for that (thus the request for refund).

I got this to replace a WD MyPassport wireless pro which never worked properly from day one, and was hopelessly unreliable.I used this for storing video from my action cameras on a recent motorcycle tour. Just pop the sd cards into the slot, click the button, and all the video is copied to the drive. You can then reformat the card for the next couple of hours in the saddle. A major plus is being able to hook the CoPilot up to an iPad to view the videos or photos on it - no more carting a laptop on trips.With storage devices becoming so easy to lose now e.g. micro sd cards, it is really reassuring to know everything is backed up on this device.As an added bonus you can even use it a a power bank if your phone or tablet die (don't rely on it for a full charge though).

The concept of the product is good, travel without a Laptop being able to review and back up photos on an external hard drive connected to the iPad. however, the software is very cumbersome and I had great problems in establishing a stable connection to the IOS devices. To get it to work at all it required several resets and appears more hassle than its worse.The item I received had a manufacture date of 2018 (it was introduced in 2018 /9), which suggest that apart from an initial batch no more were produced.Seagate, who bought out LaCie, do not appear to provide phone and email responses mist the mark. This support is provided from Athens and whilst a Seagate consumer drive was swapped reasonably quickly, I was concerned with their responsiveness have waited for 45 minutes on the phone and not getting to speak to anybody. Also, I requested a callback through their chat functionality, but the promised callback did not happen. The support that helped more than the manual and the Seagate support was online and helped to clarify my thinking on this product.Perhaps with future generation iPads having moved away from the lightening connector to USB-C, together with Apple's shared architecture using the same chip in iPads and laptops, I expect a usable external drive will soon become reality, however, I do not this that this product is it.In terms of the categories below, I would rate the storage capacity as adequate to good. It can easily cover a photography focused trip using a cropped sensor or full frame camera. Not sure how well it would work for video and some forums 7 online discussion detail video issues.The item is quite heavy and I have not been able to check whether it can charge a phone or iPad from its battery. The large iPad Pro needs considerable charging capacity. The drive is heavier that other rugged drives and a MacBook Air and rugged drive will provide far more options to the professional user than this product managed from an iPad.Finally, the software, is very cumbersome and if combined with unreliable connections turns this product into quite a time waster.

I am happy with the Lacie copilot, it took me no time transferring Videos from my GoPro to the copilot whichIs very simple using the SD card. The issues arrive when you want to transfer the Videos from the copilot to the iPad and edit and store. Luckily after about 2 weeks I have worked this out. The email support and assistance from LacieIn my view is pretty awful. It took 2 weeks to answer my first query and I sent an email back regarding assistance and after 8 days, still no response. I did have a WD portable drive in the past and found the support was first class.I have now worked most issues out myself, no thanks to Lacie.
