Genuine Italian Officer's Wool Blanket

First off, this thing smells like old peoples closets.....baaaad. I washed it in my bath tub with palmolive and treated it with a half bottle of hair conditioner. It came out soft and the smell was 80% gone. Now 3 weeks later its all gone. I have no complaints about this blanket. It is heavy duty and warm.

This was received as warned... Very bad moth ball smell! Took it to local cleaners and was told all they can do is deodorize, but this would not remove the smell entirely. Man, they weren't kidding. I ran through my house to take the blanket to the backyard for airing and even with it in its plastic bag. It still stunk up my place. I have it currently hanging in the backyard, now for two weeks and the smell is still strong. I can smell it from the front of the house. I am also trying febreeze, but will not be able to use until smell is gone. Other than that, good quality and soft, for wool and size is as advertised.UPDATE 6-16-2015Left the blanket outside for months. Recently started using it this summer as the smell had died slightly. Now after using, washing, drying and spraying it again, the smell has come back stronger.UPDATE April 2018After having this blanket for 3 years, it is now my favorite blanket. It's getting softer with use and the smell finally went away. Nice and warm and not too bulky. Highly recommend, if you have patience it will payoff.

When buying products off the internet my pet peeve is being decieved, this blanket is not 100% wool it has a tag on it clearly stating it is 90% wool. It is a pretty good blanket, however, at this point I feel duped into paying way too much money for a 90% wool blanket and , at this realization, I don't expect it to be made entirely of new material (in it's maufacture). DO NOT GIVE LIARS BUSINESS!!! 80 and 90% wool blankets can be found elsewhere for much less money!!!!!

Item sounded appealing but, odor extremely heavy not a good purchase for an apartment dweller. Had to keep one since I opened box.Tried airing blanket for 7 days - no luck. Finally washed in cold water with Ivory Flakes & it shrunk. Instructions stated it could be washed.Second box arrived later - sent it back unopened & repackaged - return cost expense. So for me an expense experiment with Amazon &a short blanket. However, Bike 1 Sports was prompt in replying to my request for help and that was my only good experience.

Ok so we got the blanket and indeed it had a strong moth ball odor.We hung it up in the garage for a couple of weeks and the entire garage was enveloped by the smell, and no indication the smell was diminishing in the blanket.We tried to wash it and the smell invaded our entire house and the washing machine was out of commission while we tried to figure out how to get rid of the smell in the washer.Finally we hung the blanket outside in the direct sunlight and magically the smell vanished.The price was right and this would IMHO be a great emergency blanket.Just a word to the wise, hang it outside in direct sunlight first dont even bring it inside your home.

This one will be my travel/ motorcycle camp blanket. Should last my lifetime with care.

I don't know how they used to make em, but I know how this one is made. Tighter wool weave, heavy and large. As everyone says, it smells pretty awful, but it's warm. That's what it's for, to keep you warm. It excels at that. Took a while to sunwash the scent out along with a bottle of Febreze and a washin. Still it's an awesome blanket.

Outstanding quality! You're not going to find a better true pure wool blanket at this price anywhere! Grab one now before the Italians figure out what they let go of. If there is a downside I'd have to agree with the masses… The odor is, er, profound. When they treated this thing they obviously wanted to be absolutely certain that no sane moth would dare come within a hundred meters of it for the next century or so. The first thing I did was wash it… 5 times in a row (Big mistake, don't do that!)... Which only expanded the odor to permiate my home and it ensured that my entire house will be moth proof for at least the next 9 months. The next mistake I made was to pop it into the dryer. Don’t do that either! This increased the odor to an unprecedented magnitude ensuring our home (and my neighbors for a half a block in every directions) will be moth free untill 2035 (moths literally go around the block to avoid my house now!). It’ll also guarantee we’ll have lots of leftovers of Christmas dinner as most mortas can't stomach that odor! I quickly hung it outside to air it out the natural way (which is where I should have started). All reports say that is the way to go… We’ll see...In all honesty folks this is a great blanket, I recommend grabbing one while you can. The odor, albeit strong, is but an easily surmounted minor inconvenience.
