auto on off works well, handles murky water, good size, so far so good
works well, auto on off reliable so far. wish it had a carrying loop on the TOP to make it easier to position in mud and water. size is pretty small. pumps good amount of water. i noticed my hose was crimped, which stopped water flow but it came gushing out once i fixed that. using it in a muddy hole managing rain coming in under the house, seems to handle the murky water fine.

Great for outdoor yard flooding
Worked well for our on and off yard flooding during rainy season. The auto on/off gave peace of mind that it would do its job when necessary even while we were asleep. Used in a dirt patch and on grass and did not clog.

Runs slow with low water, water in the vent holes by power cord or rain may be required to arm it.
This review is for the larger more expensive, WAYNE - WaterBUG AUTO 1/4 HP 1900 GPH Auto On/Off Submersible Pump with Multi-Flo Technology. I have a small area near a foundations that collects water that has no where to go but under a house; depth of water before crisis is about 6”, a couple of gallons max. The pump appears in operation to be dual speed, low I suspect for when there is low water levels and then hi speed, full submersion). Low can be tricky to initiate, dripping some water on the 5 water vent holes near the power cord, seams enable operation when you have above minimum water height but you cant get it to start otherwise and want to see if it is operational (I do not need to do this later, if it rains even days later, water goes away; All I know for certain is that it is finicky for initial operation, water in those holes seems to get it to operate with a valid water height). In this state, I can feal operation with my hand as a vibration, not noise. Water flow is slow during low operation, probably a few gallons per minute, not 1900 (which on my application would be a under a second of run time if true). Probably a self protective mechanism. Of course the manual could simply tell us the theory of the sensor operation, but it is an information void, mostly concerned with you not killing yourself. You can prove Hi speed operation by filling your sink with water and submerging the pump, after you’ve dried off the kitchen cabinets, I came to the conclusion that maybe it can pump 1900 GPH! It does seem to pump faster given the water height, and may not merely be a two speed system as the product in description implies. From what I observe, water pump will not function if water height is under ½” height, and it does turn off appropriately in the interim; no motor vibration. Does seem to keep up with rain, dark suity water but not mud. I will likely need to clean the sensor section, not certain this uses a float to detect water height (you can turn it upside down, and it does not start, but maybe it would if you dripped water into those 5 holes). So far 5 stars, much of the above was to convince myself that it does work. This could benefit with a LED to confirm power (red), water detection (amber), and run state (green); or a descent manual. So far it reliably works for my application.

Update
Placed this in a part of our yard that floods with heavy rain. Today, rain level reached 2" above bottom of this device but, it never switched on. Piece of junk. Returning. Update: Keeping this little workhorse after all. Turns out it just needed to be placed flat on bare ground to work. It was pumping dirt and water out a 3 ft. discharge due to being placed on bare soil but, it removed all the water after a rainfall of 1.55" in an hour. The unit was overwhelmed with keeping up with that amount of rainfall in such a short time however, it eventually removed every bit of water in the flooded yard. I was actually exchanging it with another identical one but, have decided to keep both and run when a heavy rainfall is expected. By the way, easy to clean by just back flushing through the discharge with a garden hose.

Regretted buying this junk
Junk. I bought this pump in preperation for storms that have hit the Los Angeles area. It turns off after water has been removed, which is an issue with the flood rains we've had. To turn it back in, you MUST disconnect it. Frankly I think the unit may be faulty but I've no way to prove it. Regret buying the unit...Waste of $.

Used it for 2 days straight...
...and it cycled on and off every 45 seconds for about 10 seconds each time...day and night with NO problem. (That's just under 4000 on/off cycles for the 2 day period.) Just wish it were slightly less in diameter, as it had to be lowered into a very narrow well house, and was a bit tricky to get in there. Would also be nice to have an option for the hose outlet on top as opposed to the side. Overall seems like a beast of a pump. Well worth the $$$.

It works!
Definitely helped with the rainy season and my basement flooding. Definitely beat paying $1,500 for a company to come out and install flap that was never installed to prevent rainwater from pushing back into my basement. Kept it dry for sure. Def recommend.

Saved our basement!
Great product! Well made and pumps only when water is present. We had a water main break outside the house and it drained the water quickly and efficiently. I also use to drain our hot tub and above ground pool. Great purchase!

Perfect solution for my flooded backyard.
Leaving in the Vancouver Fraser Valley…every year my backyard gets flooded once or twice a year during big rain storms . I keep borrowing my neighbour’s pump but it did not have a auto shut off. So I bought this unit and it works perfect . I attached a 75ft hose to it and forget it. Highly recommend this pump for small backyard floods.

Somewhat dissapointed
The Amazon details noted to "1/16"" but does not even turn on in 1/2" of water. Works great in any deeper situatiin but I specifically chose it for the 1/16th boast, too bad. Will keep for possible future deeper water issue.
