Overpriced and Overrated. 5 mana? 4 mana hardcast and I'm in. Exile? Discard and I'm in. Exile a BLUE card? Exile ANY card and I'm in. Oh and you have to pay a life? Counterspell needs card advantage to keep up with the counterspelling. I can't risk exiling specifically another counterspell. This card will be dead weight in your hand until you get 5 mana. Limited strength late game, only effective first turn really and if there is a first turn threat it'll be banned. But I don't hate the card cause its a 0 casting cost counterspell, unique to the game and I'll collect it for that reason. I won't play it though. I'll find a better alternative. You can still play counter control you just need 1 mana and you're fine (50/50 to play first). 2 mana and you're in the clear (which can be done turn 1 with mox/lotus). So you play first and have island, lotus petal, force of will and a 2 CC counterspell. Why did I play Force of Will? Don't play cards that pose a predicament for you like that that's my advice. I'd like 2 Force of Wills in my opening hand to exile the other one. Basically saying "get this out of my deck". You'll realize that when it happens. Its a 2.5 star card, but I give it 3/3.5 cause yes its still useful not just on turn 1 but whenever you're tapped out as a nice surprise. Will make you feel comfortable and that's the feeling you want to have with a card. Can't quite make it 4 stars unless one of its "drawbacks" were slightly better. I remember my friend making a Reanimate deck when Reanimate from Tempest came out. He had to cast a discard spell on himself to get his creature in the grave. If only FoW could have done that for him ... would have been a nice deck. Even for Animate Dead both cards in Standard. I'd put the price on FoW at $40 - $50. As a collector I'll still pay $80 for it and won't blame you for paying this much either. Play it and you'll have your pros and cons. But not a penny more (if it gets up to $100 I hope to never see) otherwise I'll save up to buy Mana Drain.
