Interesting, but some inaccuracies and typos
The book is interesting and to someone without a medical background the only noticeable errors would be typos; there are quite a few typos. I have noticed that over the years, more and more typos are appearing in Uncle John books. They seem to be getting lazier with proofreading. This book isn't that long, the typos are pretty unacceptable. I have also noticed some inaccuracies, perhaps because I have a medical background, for example, it states the highest blood glucose ever recorded was >26000, I thought that seemed impossible so I looked it up, the highest on record is around 2600. Perhaps another typo, but incorrect information nonetheless. With past BR books I feel I am learning with my entertaining read, I don't like that without sources and noticeably incorrect info and typos, I have to take this book with a grain of salt. I gave it three because it is still an entertaining read - just don't go spouting any "facts" without verifying first.

Scary
If you can read this book and still go to the doctor or, even more so, the hospital without qualms then you are braver than I am. Listed is everything from things being left in the body after surgery to the wrong ogans or limbs being removed. There are thiings in here that will make you shudder but will keep you reading. As another reader noted, there are quite a few typos, but I didn't find them all that distracting. Did you know that one of the places where you can pick up the most dangerous germs is off the magazines in the doctor's waiting room? I didn't either but from now on I will bring my own reading material.

Eye-opening and gut-wrenching!
I have to have knee surgery again and now I am terrified. My story - my GP set me up with a cancer physician to do my hernia surgery. I should have followed my instincts and not use him. Of course he did it wrong and I almost bled to death because the stitches ripped out almost immediately. Thank God the internal bleeding stopped by itself - I didn't have to have to have additional surgery by him! Still had to pay for it all, then find a professional to fix my hernia.

Entertaining read for travel
I love reading books in the Uncle John series, I've loved them since I was a child in the 80's. This book was an entertaining addition to a trip to Ireland. The stories are brief, amusing, and mostly true. There are a few instances in the book that have clearly been shown to be urban legends, but what's a little embellishment between publisher and reader, right? Anyway, this is a fun read and worth the purchase!

amazing info!
My 10 year old is obsessed with science and since I work in public health and discuss germs and diseases frequently he has become interested in those, too. This book is so informative and gives the info in a fun way. He tore through it and is constantly regaling us with all kinds of information. Love it.

The book is ok BUT there are stickers all over the back. I can't scan the ISBN code to enter this into my book data base.

this is an awesome book to have
If you're into science/medicine, this is an awesome book to have. It never ceases to amaze me the random, crazy facts and stories that are contained in these 'Uncle John's Bathroom Reader' books. Although my husband hates it, since he is quite squeamish about doctors/medical conditions/surgeries, so I wouldn't suggest it to anyone who is similar to that. But as for me, I love it. It never fails to entertain.
