The phenomenon returns! Originally published in 1987, The Book of Questions , a New York Times bestseller, has been completely revised and updated to incorporate the myriad cultural shifts and hot-button issues of the past twenty-five years, making it current and even more appealing. This is a book for personal growth, a tool for deepening relationships, a lively conversation starter for the family dinner table, a fun way to pass the time in the car. It poses over 300 questions that invite people to explore the most fascinating of subjects: themselves and how they really feel about the world. The revised edition includes more than 100 all-new questions that delve into such topics as the disappearing border between man and machine― How would you react if you learned that a sad and beautiful poem that touched you deeply had been written by a computer? The challenges of being a parent― Would you completely rewrite your child’s college-application essays if it would help him get into a better school? The never-endingly interesting topic of sex― Would you be willing to give up sex for a year if you knew it would give you a much deeper sense of peace than you now have? And of course the meaning of it all― If you were handed an envelope with the date of your death inside, and you knew you could do nothing to alter your fate, would you look? The Book of Questions may be the only publication that challenges―and even changes―the way you view the world, without offering a single opinion of its own. Review: I thought the original Book of Questions was a must-have, but this is the one you need - When I was young, my parents had this book and used to (gently) demand that we "play" this book from time to time. It was always thought provoking and always an ice breaker. Fast forward to when I moved into my own apartment in college: they were delighted to dump many of their well-worn possessions--including this book--into my lap. I used this book many a time with new and old friends to get to know them better, both in college, in my 20s and beyond. It's a great after dinner activity at a dinner party when the conversation has lulled, because everybody gets to know a lot about everybody else and everybody seems to like it. The questions, a mix of "what would you do in this situation" and "what's more important to you: x or y?" and other psychological questions, are thought provoking and entertaining. Of course, there's no right or wrong answer and every time I've used the book, people have seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. I recently ordered this revised version and was really happy with the changes. First, there are more questions: 291, up from 217. Next, and perhaps more importantly, the "follow up" questions that some of the questions had have been moved from the back of the book to a light blue font below the relevant questions. This way, you don't have to clumsily flip back and forth and find the question number. It's a small change but a definite improvement. Finally, and most importantly, the questions are fresher, updated for today. In sum, if you already have The Book of Questions, I highly recommend buying the revised and updated version, and if you don't already haven't the Book of Questions, I highly recommend buying this revised and updated version and trying it out with your spouse, your family, your friends--it's a great way to get to know people and quite fun! Review: I loved this book and if you love question and answer books. You may want to check out this one. - As someone well into their senior years, who for more than 7 decades has been a voracious reader of all kinds of books on subjects from A to Z and from the scientific to the esoteric. This is why while browsing on desertcart books when I came across this 300 page soft cover book (The book of questions by Gregory Stock, Ph.D.) I decided to purchase it. First off, even though I thought this book was interesting and thought-provoking; nevertheless, I thought it lacked a little organization in that it should have had a table of contents with specific topics areas covered. It also had some really stupid, (at least in my personal opinion), questions in this collection that I thought was strange and totally unrealistic. In conclusion, if you are interested in a book full of interesting, thought-provoking, and many unusual questions you may want to check out this volume. In general, I did love reading this book. Nice for Date Night
The first half of the book is pretty good and leads to interesting conversation, but near the midpoint the questions start feeling redundant and they add a lot of followup questions that don't add nuance to the conversation or change your potential answer. The author sometimes structures questions in a way that assumes your answer or the follow up questions will assume your answer. It is easy for my husband to carry in his back pocket

Wonderful tool to get people to unplug
The book is an exceptional catalyst for sparking engaging and thought-provoking conversations, fostering connections among readers through their unique responses. It encourages individuals to step outside their comfort zones as they delve into various ethically and morally complex questions that challenge their perspectives. This thought-provoking book has become a favorite at social gatherings, functioning as an icebreaker that ignites lively discussions during events or lengthy car rides. I have gifted numerous copies to friends, selecting it as a meaningful present that enhances their experiences and enriches their social circles. For years, I have turned to this book to facilitate the exploration of topics that might otherwise be uncomfortable to discuss openly, creating a safe space for dialogue. With its recent updates, the content remains relatable and resonant for today’s audiences, offering significant value and return on investment for those who engage with it.

Know the audience! Not uplifting for families
I bought this hoping to use it around the supper table to help guide good conversation. I figured I could just remove a few pages with adult content and use the rest of the book. In the end I think i tore out about a fifth of the book for one reason or another. I expect the intended audience of this book is a sexually active adult who doesn't mind delving into disturbing, dark ideas. Certainly not every page is like this, but there were a lot of worst-case scenarios that I wouldn't want to discuss with anyone I wanted to keep a relationship with after! For example: You're hiking with your lover, your best friend, and your father. They stumble upon a group of venomous snakes and are bitten. You have one vial of antivenom. Who gets to live? Just dark! And hurtful if any one of those people are in on the discussion, or might hear of your answer! I read through the whole book so that I could leave just questions that I'd consider good for around the table (we have teens) and found the overall tone dark, doomsdayish, and divisive. And I left most of those questions because it is healthy to discuss the difficult as well as the fun and fluffy but I wish the balance of uplifting vs dark or difficult was more even.

Thought Provoking, Travel Size
I bought this as a Yankee swap gift and chose my own gift so I could keep it! I like this book a lot. We bring it on road trips, or places where there is a lot of sitting and waiting. I like it because it is thought provoking. Some of the questions are more for adults, so I would say that if you are with children, just have the adults go through the book so that you can guage what is age appropriate for the group you're in. Some of the questions are easy to answer, some are more difficult. We like to take the questions a step further and try to understand WHY we answer the way we do. Why do you feel that way? What happened to you to make you have that opinion or viewpoint? Do you think you'll always feel that way? What would have to happen for you to change your mind? You can go really deep with the self analysis! Or you can just have a good time and see what everyone says. That's fun too! I like that the book is small, too, so taking it on trips is easy.

Good for having a gentle mid-week existential crisis
A good conversation piece: you can just open at random pages and you have an automatic deep conversation in front of you. Maybe avoid using with family members, unless you're especially curious about your grandparents sexual habits. If you don't have any friends, it's perfectly designed for sitting at your desk, talking out loud to yourself and having existential crises. Pages are good for absorbing tears.

Libro originale

Saw it, needed it.
I originally saw this book in a store and then decided against buying it for whatever reason. As soon as I got home, I ordered it from Amazon and as always, it arrived super fast. The questions in this book really make you (and others) think. You can always bring one of those questions up (no matter if you tell your conversation partner(s) that you took it from a book) and it will cause an interesting discussion. Alls thumps up! Go buy this book if you like thinking about questions that no one would ever ask you.
