Loctite 37482 545 Pneumatic/Hydraulic Thread Sealant Bottle - 36 ml

Original Review on May 12, 2013: I've used PTFE tape for years and have preferred it to pipe dope ... but this stuff has me sworn off PTFE, forever, in scenarios where the 24 hour cure time is not a factor. Apply it to the threads as a liquid and within 5 mins it begins to set up into a purple, pasty material -- plenty of time to get it threaded into place. Vibration resistance plus sealant in one -- I love it. Addendum Review added on April 29, 2014: Nearly a year later the onboard air system I built for my vehicle still maintains 200psi pressure with not a single leak; it has lots of fittings, and I used the bulk of the bottle on that project. Also, every pneumatic tool I own now has this thread sealant instead of PTFE tape where the industrial nipple is fitted to the tool -- no leaks. I purchased a fixer-upper home last December and needed to replace the hot water heater and pressure tank, and, again this sealant was used to produce fitted connections with zero leakage. I recently used the last of my first bottle when installing an interior (to home) 3/4" threaded ball valve and accompanying outdoor hose bib to bring water from my home to my dock, and I just received the replacement bottle I ordered. I will likely always keep some of this around from now on. A little bit goes a long, long way. I've also learned in using it that while 24 hour cure time is recommended, for non-wet, low pressure (i.e. less than 300 psi) scenarios, you can likely get away with a 15-20 minute wait. I've never waited less than 15-20 mins ... and those times when I waited only that long to use dry things I've sealed, I always had good seals. I'd allow full cure time for wet conditions, just to be safe, but that's me.

I used this Loctite 545 on all the fittings in my methanol fuel line setup for my project, and it has been absolutely flawless. Not a single leak anywhere. It applies clean, seals perfectly, and holds strong even under vibration and pressure. This product gave me total confidence in my fuel system, and I definitely won’t stop using it. If you’re working with methanol or high-performance setups, this sealant is a must-have. Highly recommended!

Throw away all the rolls of teflon tape you have and just use this stuff. Yes it is not cheap but you are not slathering it on like spackle on your walls, you only use a tiny amount per fitting and the results are worth it, the bottle will last you years.

Good product quick ship as advertised

This is an incredible alternative to teflon tape. There are times that the tape is too wide for some threads, and the liquid threat helps tremendously. I did try to use this for a shower head, it did not work. It's not advertised for use with low viscosity liquid(hydraulic fluid is more viscous vs water) but it was worth the attempt. You're also supposed to use yellow teflon tape for gas applications, which is not widely known. Regardless, this is a great product and I recommend.

545 omg made all my leaks disappear like magic lol. It's the only thing needed. Maybe a primer if you want it to cure faster. Worth every penny

Después de darle servicio a mi compresor, no encontraba la manera de que no tuviera fugas de aire. Intente con tanto Teflon como pude, incluso sus variantes industriales pero nada conseguía sellarlo. Probé con este producto, no teniendo muchas expectativas realmente y mi sorpresa fue que ahora no tengo ninguna fuga. Es importante mencionar que si se debe de dejar secar al menos lo que indica el producto (24 horas) aun que por el clima frío lo deje una semana. Lo recomiendo TOTALMENTE.

This was recomended by some repair personnel and it worked great for my connections that were leaking using another product. However, this has to sit for 24 hrs to be 100% effective.
