FELIWAY Classic Cat Pheromone Calming Diffuser Kit

I'm a skeptical person. I really had no expectations that this diffuser would do anything at all. I only bought it on a whim because I was going to take in a friend's cat and I have two rambunctious dogs that I worried would upset the cat. I set up a separate room for the cat and plugged in the diffuser 48 hours before getting the cat (as per the recommendation on the box). I didn't smell anything in the room and couldn't even tell the diffuser was doing anything except that it felt warm. I had very low expectations. I brought the cat home yesterday and put her in her room with the diffuser. I opened her cat carrier and she immediately came out and started checking out the room with no fear (and I had never even met the cat before). Then she came over to me and started wanting to rub her face all over me and kept asking for petting, purring the whole time. It was like she was instantly at home. This is the same cat that when my friend first got her, she hid for days and was stand-offish to people. Now she acts like a little love bug. I still have yet to introduce the dogs to the cat but they have smelled each other through the door. The cat has been startled by a loud bark or two (directed at outside creatures) but does not run to hide and has not shown any fear. She seems curious to meet the dogs. While I don't have a "control cat" to scientifically prove that the Feliway is working, I have never seen a cat be that comfortable in a new place with new people as immediately as she has. And based on how she acted at her previous owner's place, I have to conclude that this Feliway stuff works. Worth every penny to have such a smooth transition!

I heard of this product from a new vet I just started taking my cats to. My cat usually is very tense and nervous when riding in the car or going to the vet, and this most recent visit seemed no different. Riding in the car and sitting in the waiting room, she was meowing desperately, frightened of her surroundings. However, a few minutes after bringing her to the exam room (which had a Feliway diffuser going), it all melted away. She acted so calm and sedate, she acted as if she were home. The effects lingered for the drive back, where she didn’t make a peep and just cruised along with me like a champ. Of course I was sold. I got one for our apartment in the hopes that it would calm some territory related tension between both of my cats in my small apartment. I put it in a central location- in between important resources for the cats (like food or litter) but not next to. I didn’t notice as huge a difference at home as I did in the exam room, but that is probably because of the fact it was covering more sq footage and being diffused in my apartment, which is probably a good thing because you wouldn’t want them zonked all the time. It does get quite warm so make sure it has plenty of room and won’t regularly come in contact with anything. I just got the multi cat version now in the hopes it more successfully tackles my specific problem with my cats, but all in all it seemed like a useful purchase! The only other thing I might find worth mentioning is that I think once it ran out, the cats got riled up and acted kind of agitated because of a mild withdrawal from having soothing hormones in the air 24/7. That again could just be me drawing lines between things that aren’t connected but there you have it. Tldr: It’s no panacea for every cat behavioral issue, but it is worth it. Get multiple and spread them throughout the home for best results

Short version: PROS - VERY effective at reducing stress levels and decreasing inappropriate behaviors. CONS - The diffuser refills are only effective for 20 - 25 days (Two other relative, in separate homes, also report they only seem to be effective for 20 to 25 days). - The cost. VERY expensive when using the recommended number of diffusers in the home and then having to change them sooner than the recommended effective date. Long version: I have seven cats who, while have free access to a large fenced yard and limited access to several hundred acres outside of the fenced yard, primarily spend their time indoors. There are conflicting personalities between them, in addition to added stress of intruding strays. With the high stress levels came spraying indoors and increased aggressive and inappropriate behaviors. I use 3 Feliway diffusers, one at each end of my home and one in the basement. It has literally saved their lives and my sanity. The diffusers do not last a full 30 days for me, usually around 25 days. I can tell when they are no longer effective, as the bad behaviors escalate. It's not immediate...It takes me about 3 days to figure out why the spats and spraying have become noticeable, when I check the diffusers (I write the approximate date for replacement on the refill bottle)it is close to the change date. Within one day of replacing the refills, all is calm again. I also have found the spray to be VERY effective in discouraging marking/spraying when applied every two to three days to the preferred objects. When applied to a pair of leather gloves that I use to "handle/pet the feral strays, it is extremely effective in calming them and reducing the number of "strikes/bites" to the gloves. It always amazes me to watch these very feral cats calm to the point that they not only allow me to pet them but relax enough to roll on their back for me to rub their tummy. I use the spray liberally around the area where I feed them, which also helps discourage marking from both my cats and the strays. And I really mean it when I say it is a life saver. About 6 months after moving into my new home in the country, an intact male stray (that I had neutered and named Melvin) decided to make himself a home with my four other cats (three females and one male, all altered). Being an adult (estimated 2+ years), it initially cause some tension with my other cats but eventually we all settled into a fairly stable routine. However, I had to continually work with Melvin to lessen his aggression during play. About two years after that, my best friend was in a bad car accident, and while she survived, she could no longer care for her three cats...so I adopted them. Even though I took 2 months to slowly integrate them, they created tension among my 5, especially Melvin. Over the next year, Melvin's stress levels increased to the point of spraying, aggression and overall depression. I tried several medications (my sis is a vet) but to no avail. His spraying became uncontrollable, to the point where he deliberately sprayed objects next to me, and eventually ON me. While he never really got rid of all of his stray-tom mannerisms, it was as if something sort of snapped in his brain, that while he wasn't mean, he was simply not right and definitely not happy. Having exhausted all other solutions (even using Feliway spray), I had him euthanized. Less than a week after the heart breaking euthanization of Melvin, one of my males (from my original four) started spraying in the house, and also one of the males of my friend's three. Medication did not help either of them. As a last ditch effort, I started using the Feliway diffusers and applied the spray to all spray-desirable objects on a daily basis. I am VERY happy to report that while there is an occasional marking and spat (usually aggravated by the presence of the strays), the situation remains manageable. And while I still morn for Melvin, I breathe a daily sigh of relief that I don't have to make that decision again. So, the Feliway diffusers and spray, while expensive, are most definitely worth it and a total godsend for my seven fur-children.

I only rated this 3 stars because I am not sure if it works or not. My cat was going crazy spraying everything because we brought a new cat into the house. I bought this and the feliway room spray as well as medicating the cat with clomicalm (prescription) The medication I can give a 10 star rating as it is working. I started with half of a pill and it worked right from the beginning. I have now halved that dose and its still working. I tried taking the cat off the medication twice and both times he sprayed so I know it works. I also have to rave about a product called anti-icky- poo ( I know its a horrible name ) But that really cleaned up the spray and I believe more then anything that product has been the main component in getting the spaying to stop. I have used natures miracle in the past and that's like water compared to the anti- icky -poo. You must get all the scent of the spray up before you can expect to stop future spraying. They have to forget and can't do that if the scent is still there. The feliway may help calm the cat but I am not sure it would be enough to stop the spraying- I wanted to try everything before considering moving the cat outside or worse. The meds and the anti- icky- poo are my recommendations in changing this behavior. I spent over 400 hundred on products and hopefully I can save someone all that money and you can go to the vet and get the meds ( about 35 dollars for 2-3 month supply) and order some anti- icky -poo. I hope after a few months my cat will be more excepting of the new cat and I can get him off the meds. The anti-icky -poo I will always buy- its an awesome product ...seriously if you own a pet this is a must to have on hand! (I have no connection or interest in this company) - I worked for a vet for years and I have used many live bateria/enzymatic products and I am so impressed with what this product can do. If you had a house with urine smell all over this would get rid of it, I have been in some houses that smelled so bad that you'd have to burn it down to get rid of the smell ... This will get rid of the smell no problem. I even use it outside where some stray cats have come into the yard and sprayed, this got rid of the smell and the cats don't keep coming back and spraying, also my cat doesn't smell that spray and this helps with the inside spraying. Love this stuff... can ya tell!

About a month ago, my 4-year old male Maine Coon and 3 1/2 year old female Tuxedo cat (scaredy-cat non-socialized brother & sister shelter rescues) and I moved in with my 77-year old Dad when Mom passed away. Cedric, (the Maine Coon) had been driving us both insane adding to our stress by leaving us both horribly sleep-deprived and frustrated. He was meowing incessantly all night, pawing maniacally on doors that are off-limits to him right now while I'm still not fully moved in, running up and down the hallway upstairs where we're living (Dad is downstairs), etc. I had heard about Feliway but it was almost twice as much at Petco and that was too much to risk that it wouldn't work. A friend told me to check Amazon and I bought two, which I received on Monday this week. Today is the third day in a row that we've gotten a full night's uninterrupted sleep in an entire month. Even more amazing is that I had to bring Cedric to the vet on Tuesday and after only one night of using the Feliway, I was able to capture him and put him in the carrier with no resistance, and absolutely NO meowing or clawing or banging around the case to get out during the car trip to, from or during the time at the vet's. When we moved to Dad's, this cat went berserk in his case until he was able to see his sister--he is scared to death unless he sees her. Yet after less than 24 hours with Feliway, he was completely calm and quiet. I'm so impressed and happy with my purchase, I'm buying 4 more diffusers to put in additional rooms in Dad's 2-story house so they will also be comfortable coming downstairs and hanging out with him eventually. My vet said although he's found that Feliway doesn't work for ALL cats, he uses it to calm one of his own scaredy cats. I can't tell you how relieved I am to have found such an amazing solution. I feel much better about using this than a prescription tranquilizer or Benadryl. THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!

Not sure it worked or not. The kitties were a little more lovey with each other and us, but no less anxious. It provoked one householder's asthma very badly however. So maybe it's for inter-personal-inter-cat behavior but not mood, and not for sensitive folks. What's worse is the wall and anything within 6" above the diffuser got COVERED in the product, which is damaging and probably quite unsafe. One battery charger that was spaced the way the instructions say literally got its light full of the liquid, so now it's destroyed, along with a $100 high end power strip / surge protector because it got all over that and ran down into the insides. Touching things to try to clean them also gave me a horrible skin reaction, so I had to throw away hundreds of dollars of electronic items that were anywhere near this, not to mention not being able to use this very expensive product.

Really relaxes my new cat! She's scared of the house a bit, and the scent helps here a lot! Plus it's small, fits in miniscule places, and works quietly. Plus it's portable because it's so small and it's versatile. Good!

I'm a rescuer but after a Trap, Neuter Release left me with two unadopted kittens (for three cats in the home), I decided that was the end for a bit for me. One of the new kittens (now a year old) has remained feral, but he's not a fighter, so it was okay. A month ago, a full-grown cat showed up on my deck and decided he lives with me. He's 7 years old (estimated), was un-neutered, but had obviously been in and out of someone's home. I had him neutered immediately, but he made the FOURTH male cat in the house. And he is a big boy and seems like a true Tom. I had to keep him apart from the others as he healed, and the bathroom I housed him in smelled like a Tom cat spray. This is new for me. I couldn't have that with the others, especially given two are fairly feral. The first trip out of the bathroom for the new Tom (Mr. Bojangles, Bo for short) and he walked over and sprayed something. Ugh....I was scared. Friends paid the vet bills with the idea that I would then care for Bo for his life. I was petrified he would set the feral kitties wild spraying up my little home. When he got out and about, he would wake up at 3 am howling, running through the house. I am convinced he lived with someone who worked in a bar or strip club. The vet suggested Feliway diffusers, and I was totally skeptical but desparate. So I loaded up on them. WOW!!!!! I read up on them after the vet told me about them, and people had reported that they seemed to mellow the cats out in addition to controlling the urge to spray. Again...I was wildly skeptical. These boys circled one another for a day or so and one of the kittens threw a few kitty punches, but this stuff did the trick. I would have loved it just for the spraying aspect, but it really has mellowed them in a way that isn't drugged. It's a bit pricey. I found I had to have four through my small house. I don't think it will cover the area it reports to cover...perhaps in a more open environment. So, I added extras. I figured one dedicated to my bedroom was a good idea. I bought another round of refills that will carry me another month. Then I may see what happens without them. Another odd thing is I have found they are not wearing at the same rate. The one in the bedroom is still 3/4 full, while the one in the hall is nearly empty, so you'll have to gauge what you need. If you are going to try it, however, I'd recommend that you go all out for one round. To under buy is to not give it a fair shot. Don't buy one to cover your entire downstairs, for example, because you won't know if it just didn't work for you or you didn't buy the right amount. Good luck!

Mi gato orinaba por todos lados a pesar de que ya está esterilizado y mi otra gata se la pasa molestandolo, lo cual le derivó estrés, decidi darle una oportunidad a este producto porque llegué al punto de lavar sus orines diario en sabanas, sillas, etc. Y increíblemente dejó de orinar en lugares donde no debe y mi gata ha dejado de molestarlo tanto, el único punto malo es que no dura 1 mes como dice, a mi me duró 3 semanas, pero ya compré recambio porque si mejoró mucho la convivencia de mis gatos, si vale la pena a pesar del precio algo elevado

Please i'm only writing this so other customers are safe... its the worst product I have ever bòught on amazon. It melted with stings of plastic all the way to the ground with in 15 mins of me plugging it in and the liqiud container went flying across the floor like a bomb due to which my lights flused ...if I wasn't in the room to switch it of my room would have caught fire and to think of it my cats were in the same room still horrified by this event. So i complained to the company and all they said was can't refund the product as the date expired. ....like I wanted another of thier product. ...not even for free...

I bought 3 of these, and every time I plugged one in, the diffuser worked for a short time and then stopped completely. Very disappointing, especially for such an expensive product.
