Why does this product contain 65mg of iron, when the maximum safe dose is 45mg per day?? Am I missing something here?

Tolerable Upper Intake levels are set at 45mg for the max dose the average individual can take without getting any side effects, such as gas, bloating, constipation, or nausea. The average individual in these studies are not women with heavy periods, pregnant, anemic, people with cancer, blood donors, or iron deficient in any way. The 45mg number is created for those who have normal iron levels but don't consume enough in their diet to maintain better/preferred iron levels. Keep in mind if you ever take your iron supplement with food, you are going to reduce absorption. Iron from non-animal sources, such as blackstrap molasses and plant based supplements, must be taken with lemon and lots of water because it is water soluble. Also, if you get enough iron in your diet and took a 7mg iron supplement, it would be considered toxic and unsafe. So always talk to your doctor about the supplements you're taking, especially multivitamins that may have something you don't need.
