StarTech.com 6in (15cm) DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort Adapter, 4K Video, DP to mDP Converter (Not compatible w/Thunderbolt)

We have just updated a work laptop from apple macbook to a dell laptop and I wanted to connect the 24in Apple Cinema display to this new dell laptop. This was a lot more complicated that I had expected since the apple cinema display uses mini display port and the dell laptop only had one VGA and three USB ports. So I looked into connecting it to the VGA port but that is very very complicated since VGA is an analog signal and the mini display port is a digital signal just buying a vga to mini display port connector is not enough you have to actually convert the signal which requires some very expensive signal processing hardware. So I read through the manual and two of the USB ports are actually USB 3.0 which can be used to connect a external monitor. So I found this StarTech USB 3.0 to DisplayPort adaptor then I bought the StarTech DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort adapter (DP2MDPMF6IN) which allowed me to plug in the mini display port plug from the Apple Cinema Display into. After following the directions and installing the included software everything works great! I didn't think this would work, apple and pc hardware don't usually play well together. The picture on the 24-in Apple Cinema Display looks Stunning! No lag or other issues, the only problem is I can't figure out how to turn down the brightness. After connecting the USB plug from the Apple Cinema Display I was able to get the built in iSight camera working and the built in speakers along with the apple keyboard that was plugged into the displays usb hub on the back. Honestly I was ready to buy a new Dell LED monitor but I am very happy I could get the old Apple Display to work with the Dell Laptop, it is just a much more beautifully made object and the color and clarity of the display is better than I could have hopped for!

Straight to the point here. It works. I’ve tried many adapters and cables to get my ACD 30” to work with modern PCs and Macs to no avail. This finally did the trick!! I use the official apple adapter DVI-D to mini DisplayPort. Then this adapter to plug into a full size DisplayPort. That’s it! It works, full resolution, 2560x1600. As a bonus a did try a DisplayPort to USB-C and that also worked with the ACD.

I bought this adapter to connect the Apple Cinema Display to my hackintosh with Radeon 6850 video card. The build quality is superb, it has a locking mechanism with a push button on the top of the connector so it won't fall out if you accidentally pull the cable to hard (does happen with HDMI connectors). It is also very small and doesn't add to the cable clutter that may be going on behind your desktop. Picture quality is not affected in any way with the adaptor, not like it should as with any digital adaptors that either work perfectly or don't work at all. So, the point is, if you need to connect a Mini DisplayPort monitor to the older DisplayPort on your Mac or PC, this adaptor is the way to go.

we needed to set up a PC laptop to connect video out to a 52" flatscreen that was already setup for video out from a macbook. we did not want to get an entirely new cord and take down the 52” monitor, so, we thought up a connector we needed and started a search on Amazon… and, voilà!, Amazon had it and saved the day! :-) with this pc adapter and an existing macbook Mini DP to HDMI cord connected to your monitor, you simply connect the Mini DP female end to a Mini DP male end (which fits in Mini DP/macbook video out) and the other end into the video out of the PC laptop... now, have PC laptop video displayed on the big screen for a mere incremental of $6.26! sweet! :-) i thought it was a dream that i would find such an adapter and simple solution for hard wire displaying both mac and pc video to the big screen! however, here it is and we are so pleased that such a nifty, inexpensive adapter existed. • . in summary, if you are a dual pc/mac household, then you are in business if you just get this adapter along with a Mini DP Male to HDMI Male connector. We have used the following cable connector for years to display video from a macbook on the 52" monitor with no issues; HDE 10ft. Mini Display Port / Mini DP Male to HDMI Male HD Cable Gold Plated Apple MacBook to HDTV Monitor Adapter ... then, when you want to display a pc laptop, instead of the macbook, just add this nifty adapter… and, you are all set! :-) a MUST-HAVE for both pc and mac households needing to hard connect video to a large monitor! :-) very, very pleased! ...Thank you. :-)!

Using this and another adapter out of the HDMI port of a Mac Studio, I was able to connect an Apple Cinema 27" display. It works great.

I only need to use it once in a blue moon, but it's worked as expected with no frustrations.

I have a Dell E6510 with Display Port and am running Windows 7 Enterprise. With this adaptor, I am able to drive full resolution (2560x1440) to an Apple 27" monitor. There are lots of built in features in this monitor such as web cam, speakers, USB hub and microphone, and I have verified that all work with the exception of the web cam, which I don't have a way to test at the moment, but note that most, if not all of those "other" features are likely being fed by the USB connector from the monitor, so probably have no bearing on the functionality of this adaptor anyway. One thing about this adaptor that wasn't apparent to me is that there is a locking mechanism so that the cable can't be accidentally knocked or pulled out (Wish HDMP had this). It is a little stiff to get the cable to release, but I'd rather it be a little too difficult, instead of too easy. Overall this part performed as advertized, and for a super cheap price.

So far this has been really flaky for me. When I first plugged it in to my docking station my MBP started behaving erratically. Now it seems to work ok but every now and then the screen will just go black for a second before it comes back. Looking for a new one from a different brand.

This is a perfect adapter for connecting proprietary cinema display of apple with pc or upgraded Mac Pro desktops with nvidia cards like gtx 960,9xx and even Pascal cards. The vendor has great service. Parcel was delivered before time . Ibhejo was helpful enough to answer the queries about parcel as the adapter is shipped from America. iSight and sound of cinema display both are supported by the adapter.

I've recently build my pc and I wanted to connect my apple monitor to the GPU! I can't express how much I'm happy with StarTech converter. It solved the issue connected and here we go. I'm also very happy with the fast delivery and the packaging. You guys rock \m/
